A Note From

Happy new financial year! Like that its July already. It won’t be long and we will be planning for ourChristmas rush period. After a hectic June , everything has started to settledown this month. Our workload is steady. We havefound that we are impacted, at the moment, by theweather. We have a considerable amount of outdoor work, roofsin particular, however, the amount of rain over the lastfew weeks has added a degree of difficulty. The safety of our team is paramount to me and as suchwe don’t take risks especially around the weather. We encourage everyone to also take a little extra timeand care on the roads as the number of accidentsincreases at this time of year. Be safe friends and allowin your planning for travel to take a little longer.

Three things to consider

Many FM’s oversee a multitude of sites with a variety ofwork being carried out by contractors at any given time.Ranging from regular maintenance and repairs throughto emergency call-outs. Outsourcing work does notremove a company’s health and safety responsibilities, and it’s essential to make sure contractors are just asup-to-date with systems, procedures and standards asregular employees.

3. Are these issues being consistent lymonitored? You may have been vigi lant about al l theserequirements when you f i rst engaged with acontractor, but how do you make sure they’remaintained? Insurance may not have been keptcurrent, and a contractor ’s workforce is subjectto change. I t ’s not easy to cont inual ly maintain al l of th isinformat ion for every contractor. An organisedand methodical approach can reduce contractorr isk. Var ious faci l i ty management or speci f iccontractor management sof tware programs aredesigned to support contractor processes andwi l l help protect your organisat ion f romcontractor-associated r isk. These systems caninclude the faci l i ty for t racking credent ia ls andprovide automated reminders, for example, aboutinsurance renewal. A good management programwil l be easi ly ta i lored to your uniquerequirements and wi l l help ensure that a l lre levant informat ion is avai lable and provided, contracts are s igned, and al l contractorrequirements are in place. A trustworthy, professional contractor wi l lrecognise the importance of compl iance andsafety issues and wi l l be happy to work wi th youand provide al l the informat ion you need.I f you would l ike some more advice on how tominimise contractor r isk , a f r iendly member ofour team is always happy to help.
