Kumeu Vintage Brass first public concert The Kumeu Vintage Brass (an offshoot of Kumeu Brass) presented its first ever public concert on 19 October. The concert was at Whangaparaoa College Auditorium and the band was complemented by vocalists & artists for some items. The program was: Radetsky March James Bond Collection The Lion King Hit The Road Jack You Don’t Know What Love Is (Trombone Septet) Hootenanny Jerusalem Take The “A” Train Breezin’ down Broadway! Theme From JAG Big Spender The Quartermasters Suite Flashdance… What a Feeling The Adagio from Spartacus Funiculi Finicula Colonel Bogey Keep Smiling Through! The Hallelujah Chorus The capacity audience cheered the performance, and asked “ was that really your first ever concert ?’”, and “ when is the next one ?” The Vintage Brass evolved from four senior Kumeu Brass players who met “for a blow” on Thursday afternoons. That was who eight years ago. Playing numbers have grown steadily, now standing at 40 active members. This is NOT a contesting band; most are with KVB having been "contested out" over the band years. However musical performances are taken seriously. The average age of members is 71, and have previously played in over 100 New Zealand bands, plus some overseas bands. The Musical Director is Graeme Gillies who would be known to many bandsmen. Kumeu Vintage Brass has a relaxed social environment, and regularly performs at Retire- ment Villages, and local (West Auckland) events.
