Vintage Umbrella Baby Stroller January 29th, 2012 | Author: babylover

Have You Ever Considered A Vintage Umbrella Baby Stroller?Do you live in a neighborhood that has sidewalks and allows youthe luxury of walking your baby in his stroller whenever you wantto? Don't you wish you had one of those vintage strollers with thebig wheels and the canopy that covered your baby's face from thesun but allowed him to lay completely flat and sleep during hisbouncy ride? There are a number of websites out there catering tonostalgia and in some case collectors. If you desire to have a piece of history you can purchase the likenew condition Swiss made low riding chariot called the Helveticafor four hundred fifty Euros. They also have a very sleek ItalianGiordani Brevetato with chrome bumpers and in originalshowroom condition for only 00. They also have another Giordanimodel Bambino Carriage for the same price.Other vintage strollers can be found at flea markets, antiquestores and swap meets. Many are from the Victorian era and are ofwhat are called a pram style. It is the baby carriage style you sawin Saturday morning cartoons and was called out at the beginningof the classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit? "I'm not bad; I'm justdrawn this way". The problem with vintage strollers is that they are almost universally heavy andcumbersome. As society became more mobile there was a need to make baby strollers more portable.Hence the advent of the umbrella stroller. In the years before World War II and the 1970s European design was applied to strollers and manyfuturistic designs and fancy strollers were produced. When first introduced these strollers were verypricey and can now capture thousand dollar plus prices on the vintage stroller market. Baby joggers andconvertible bike trailers are now the norm in neighborhoods around America. While many still hark backto the halcyon days of the 1950s you can customize your baby jogger at Kid Kustoms and create yourvery own vintage stroller. You can add fins and tins to your stroller and the Classic series takes you backto the cool days of the '57 Chevy and the great colors (Aqua, Red, Purple, Tangerine, White and Pink) ofthose cars.About the author: Go to my mortgage calculator loan site or my site about folding chair racks.Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/debt-consolidation-articles/have-you-ever-considered-a-vintage-stroller-1379745.html

ezara:January 30, 2012 at 7:05 amHas anyone flown with Virgin Atlantic with a baby stroller?Has anyone flown with Virgin Atlantic and had trouble asking to have the stroller handywhen landing on a connecting flight? I will be flying from Lax to India with an 8 hour layover inLondon and I would like to have the stroller handy. I have contacted Virgin Atlantic 3 times and the 3times I have had a completely different answer. Does anyone know anything in regards to thestrollers being able to pass through security check points in the airports? (The stroller I have is notan umbrella stroller)Reply

Eclipsepearl:February 29, 2012 at 2:05 amI haven’t flown Virgin Atlantic. I did work at Heathrow for 6 years and I know it’spossible to have the stroller at connections there. Our passengers did but Ican’t speak for Virgin.Their website doesn’t give much information except to say that it can be brought for free;“Infants are entitled to one piece of hand luggage weighing no more than 6kg. This is overand above the buggy or bassinet or car seat, which are carried free of charge.”http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/us/passengerinformation/baggage/handbaggage.jspI can also confirm that strollers can go through security. They can either be hand-checked(although in some places this is discourged) or folded and put through the X-ray.Most major airlines don’t require umbrella strollers but it must fold, and virtually allstrollers sold today do.With airlines, sending an email is better than calling them. You can print it out and showthe staff if [email protected] clear that you want your stroller delivered to you on the “bridge” or “jetway”, not atbaggage claim which technically, you don’t have to go through since you’re continuing onto India. I assume (and hope) you are not leaving the airport for your layover (unless youhave a dayroom in a local hotel). You could also put your question to this forum, specific to Virgin;http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=506For more information on flying with children in general, I wrote a totally non-commercialarticle which is featured this month on the Expat Women site;http://www.expatwomen.com/mothers/flying_with_children.phpor directly on the blog;http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.comGood luck getting it back for your long layover.Reply

Java:February 1, 2012 at 11:34 amHow do you know when your baby is ready for an umbrella stroller? My 5 month old can hold his head up steady but isn’t able to sit up unassisted yet. Is itonly safe for a baby to sit in an umbrella stroller only after he/she is able to sit up on his own? I haveseen some umbrella strollers that recline back pretty far and was wondering if one of these woulddo damage to his developing spine. This will be my first stroller for him.Reply

Strawberry Squeeze:February 3, 2012 at 1:55 pmUsing a baby stroller in Manhattan – is it advisable? Are the streets of Manhattan baby stroller-friendly? I have a teeny weeny umbrella stroller. Thanks!Reply

Vet's Daughter:February 15, 2012 at 8:36 pmSure, people do it all the time. Plus they push, carry things alot bigger than astroller.Reply

Carla:February 8, 2012 at 9:35 amHow old should a baby be to be in an umbrella stroller ?If it also has shoulder straps ?? She is able to hold her head up, just not sit on her ownyet, but since the stroller has shoulder straps then it should be fine right ?Reply

AddieMom13:March 2, 2012 at 7:18 pmwe waited till my daughter was able to sit up on her own well before we put herin one, just because ours didn’t lean back far and she was sitting almoststraight up in it. I was just afraid that she would flop right out.

Page 3: Vintage Umbrella Baby Stroller.pdf

But put your baby in it, if you have it. Drive it around your kitchen, see how she does. aslong as you feel safe with her in it, and she doesn’t look uncomfortable, then go for it…Reply

DeAnna V:February 8, 2012 at 11:42 amToddler & Baby – Umbrella stroller? San Francisco trip?we are flying to san francisco this weekend – 2 1/2 yr old & 10 month old – will be stayinga week visiting SF and bay area to Santa Cruz. Anyhow – 1st time flying with them. I understandumbrella strollers are the way to go – I’ll have to go purchase today – DO WE NEED A TWINUmbrella STROLLER? Or would 2 singles work OK? I’m thinking of logistics of sightseeing…cablecars, ease of folding & carrying. And – how is the JEEP TWIN UMBRELLA for folding & carrying(again, cable cars, etc) Right now I have: 1 Maclaren Techo for toddler & Combi stroller frame (popcarseat into it) I use at home. The twin umbrella is harder to find – so cant decide if I should just gofor 2 singles? thanksReply

abuelamah:February 25, 2012 at 12:35 amI have children..I would say two umbrella strollers or better yet… 2 stroller and one backcarrier….**Some streets like in Chinatown you will not be able to push a double stroller at all youwould have to walk in the street**…. unless it is one of the double strollers with a seat inthe front and a seat in the back…. single strollers are easy and lighter to carry then a bigdouble one and cheaper… Get one that will be easy for them to nap or for you to change adiaper…At times I have put two children in one stroller for short peiods of time ………..Reply

dontbother:February 8, 2012 at 10:11 pmWhen Michelle Duggar puts an infant carrier in an umbrella-style stroller, is that safe?It just doesn’t seem as safe as a snap and go- travel system. I don’t understand how itstays put, when she puts little Josie in her baby bucket, in the umbrella stroller.Reply

cinnea:March 2, 2012 at 9:22 pmIt is not safe to place an infant carrier in any stroller or cart unless it is securedin some way, as the carrier could tip or fall. Even if the carrier is secured, thechild should be closely supervised the entire time. It isn’t safe to put a carrier in anumbrella stroller that isn’t designed for it, because the weight is not distributed in the waythe stroller was designed for and it could cause tipping. I haven’t seen the Duggar’sstroller, but if it is a combo system where the carrier snaps in, then it would be safe. However, based on what I’ve read on message boards, that isn’t the case. The Duggarscan certainly afford a safe stroller, so it’s a shame that they would risk their child in thatway.Reply

cheeno:February 14, 2012 at 10:19 pmwhen can u put ur baby in umbrella stroller?Reply

Campbell's mommy:March 4, 2012 at 5:32 pmWhen your baby has good head control and is able to sit with support. Someare not very sturdy, so the better your baby can sit up on his/her own then thebetter.Reply

Jamie's Mommy:February 16, 2012 at 7:21 amQuestion about baby gates and umbrella strollers? What’s the point in a gate if you’re in a 1 story house? What’s the point in an umbrella stroller if you have a bigger one, besides that its lighter andsmaller? Like when would you use it instead of a big one?Reply

Anonymous:February 25, 2012 at 8:15 amI LOVED my umbrella stroller, so much more convenient than my big travelsystem.I really only used the travel system while baby was a newborn because the car seat clicksinto, or when we went to an amusement park or something where I needed the extracompartment on the bottom for things.I usually put the baby gate up at the kitchen entrance when I was cooking to prevent anyaccidents, I was always terrified my daughter would somehow open the oven while it wason or something…Reply

CM:February 22, 2012 at 4:09 amWhich is a better umbrella stroller – Maclaren or Baby Planet?Has anyone used one or both of these strollers that can list pros/cons? I have alsoresearched the Chicco Capri and a few others that are similar….does anyone have arecommendation? Thanks!Reply

3ms:February 23, 2012 at 3:52 amlightweight umbrella-type stroller with parent facing baby?Does anyone know of a lightweight umbrella-type stroller where the baby faces theparent? My daughter’s too big for her infant seat in the travel system stroller, but I still want to beable to face her and talk to her while pushing her around. Thanks!Reply

Anonymous:March 5, 2012 at 12:56 pmHi,The following pushchairs are all umbrella folding and have reversible seats (soyour darling daughter can face you or the direction of travel). I dont know how strong youare so I dont want to assume what you would regard as “light” or “heavy” so i’ve includedthe actual weight of these models:Chicco Trio For Me Travel System weighs 10.4 kg (23 lbs) which is light for a travelsystem. The seat is reversible.Maxi Cosi Loola Up Travel System weighs 13.6 kgMaxi Cosi Loola Travel System weighs 13.1 kgInglesina Ottuto Travel System weighs 13.2 kgThe lighter pushchairs that have reversible seat units usually to fold concertina or scissor-style, NOT umbrella-style, so you may want to take this into consideration, as you areseverely limiting your options by wanting umbrella-folding pushchairs only Reply

Mommy to Simone Isabella:February 23, 2012 at 8:54 amHow old was your baby when you started using umbrella stroller?Just wondering because I quickly peeked at one the other day and was surprised that itstated for age 3 and up. I thought I would start using one whenever my baby could sit up well….ornot? Thanks!Reply

Anonymous:February 26, 2012 at 3:39 pmI started using it as soon as Em was able to sit-up on her own. I knew at thatage that she had the stomach and neck muscles to hold herself steady sinceumbrella strollers don’t recline.I think expecting a child to be 3 before using an umbrella stroller is very unrealistic! Mostumbrella strollers are very narrow and the straps for the waist are small- even on thelargest size it seems like they don’t expand a lot.Reply

catbach_2000:February 24, 2012 at 4:22 pmWhat is a good light weight/umbrella stroller for a 4.5month old baby?I am going to be traveling and want to buy something that I can use in the airports and willbe easy to take with me to push around my daughter. She has great head control so far and sits ina bumbo seat wonderfully. Does anyone have any good suggestions on a light weight stroller thatreclines that way I’m not having to just carry her around every where while we are on vacation?Reply

~Ariana~:February 29, 2012 at 2:49 amA regular umbrella stroller isnt recommended for babies under 6 months-but ifyou’re looking for a lightweight small stroller The CHICCO is my TOP PICK!http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2609029If you want something a bit more high end… you can pick the Graco Ipo…http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3458512It’s also lightweight, more comfortable for your baby. You also have to think that your 4.5mos old baby will be taking naps there as well..and she needs to be comfy….this Safety 1st looks like a great option..http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10812753

ashez:February 26, 2012 at 10:45 amHow old does a baby have to be to use an umbrella stroller?I found a really cute umbrella stroller that reclines in 2 postions..How old does my baby have to be to use it?Reply

avery:March 6, 2012 at 6:56 amIf it reclines,,,,, you could use it now, just strap him/her in.Reply

Munchkin'sMa-ma!:February 26, 2012 at 1:20 pmWhen can i use the umbrella stroller for my baby? she’s 3 months?and still has a jerky/floppy neck but can hold it sorta on her own, but I still have to supportit. also, she tries to sit up though very far from it by raising her head from her shoulders when sittingdown in her carseat or bouncer, she can also lift her head up on her own spontaneouslysometimes now. also, i am still using the Graco snap n’go with the newborn car seat. Is it okay to tojust stick with that til she can be in the umbrella stroller, or will she be too squeezed in? shes 14 lbsnow.also, i am still using the newborn car seat…is that okay?Reply

Slassy Girl:February 27, 2012 at 1:57 pmNewborn car seats can be used up until your infant weighs 20 pounds, so shewill be fine in that for several more months. You shouldn’t use an umbrellastroller until your child is at least 6 months – and only that early if she can sit up well onher own.Reply

Anonymous:February 26, 2012 at 6:00 pmIf I buy a Snap and Go stroller frame what happens when the baby outgrows thecarrier/car seat?Is there any way the Snap and Go can be used as a stroller? Do I then have to buy a full-sizedstroller until the baby is ready for an umbrella stroller?Reply

SAHMOnTheGo:March 6, 2012 at 6:28 pmYou will have to purchase another stroller, as there is no way to use the Snap &Go as a stroller without the carseat.By the time your child outgrows the carseat, s/he could probably go into an umbrellastroller. However, I would recommend a full size stroller- they are much more comfortablefor baby.Reply

★ haŋdle with care ★:February 29, 2012 at 3:36 amWhen can a baby sit in an umbrella stroller?I have a 7mo daughter and she weighs approx 6.5kgs (14lb something..) just wonderingwhen the best time is to ditch the bulky pram for an upright umbrella stroller? She can support herhead fine, and has for months now, problem is she might be a bit small for it..Reply

Anonymous:March 2, 2012 at 3:18 pmAs long as she can support her head well, she will be fine. The only thing iswith umbrella strollers, is that some of them don’t recline to a layback position,so if your baby falls asleep, they will get a sore neck.I don’t think she’d be ‘too small’ because you would strap her in. Try to find one with a 5point harness system for extra safetyReply

amor1954:February 29, 2012 at 4:47 amAt what age is it appropriate to put a baby in an umbrella stroller?also, do you know of any umbrella strollers with a basket for storage and a lap tray?Reply

Manda R:March 1, 2012 at 4:15 amI just started to put my Daughter in one and she is 10 months. I don’t muchcare for them as they dont seem to have as much rooms as regular sizedstrollers. However, there is really no set age for Umbrella Stroller- But, normally peopledon’t put babies in them until she can sit up on there own. Hope this helps.Reply

steindov:March 1, 2012 at 7:12 pmhow do I pick a baby stroller?I am looking for an umbrella type stroller that reclines and has 5 point harness. Doesanyone have experience with a great stroller like that?Reply

Jenn M:March 5, 2012 at 10:05 amIt dosen’t fold like an unbrella stroller but it’s very small and compact, one haldfold, reclines and I can’t remember if it’s a 3 or 5 point harness. The JeepCherokee stroller, they have them everyone now and I got mine at Wal-Mart for about 50.Good luck!Reply

Nadezda:March 6, 2012 at 4:37 pmIs it ok to use a little umbrella-stroller for a 4-month old baby?Reply

Lon:March 6, 2012 at 8:19 pmUsuallly babies are ok in it. The only concern that pediatricians have againstusing them is because it hurts babies little backs to be in the sitting positionwhen they haven’t learned to sit up correctly, as well as for a long period of time. If yourbaby seems uncomfy or slumping over too much then I would say no, its not ok.Reply
