Honour Society Ceremony

On Tuesday 14 March, Vincentia High School held its annual Honour Society Ceremony. The ceremony recognised and rewarded a variety

of academic and extracurricular milestones the students have achieved throughout their years at Vincentia High School. The event was well

attended by over a hundred parents and carers who were witness to their students’ memorable moments and a selection of their academic

highlights.

Congratulations to those who received an award for reaching their milestone, particularly to Suzie Glenday for attaining her pennant in the

schools ‘Hall of Honour’; a sincere thank you to all the parents and carers who attended the day; and good luck to those aiming for greater

achievements in the future.

YEAR 7 CAMP 2017 We all arrived at school on Wednesday, March 15th and fortunately the sun was shining for us. There was a

contagious buzz in the air and excitement filled the year 7 students faces as they realised the fun that they were

about to encounter. We boarded the buses and made our way down to Racecourse Beach Tourist Park which is

about half way between Ulladulla and Batemans Bay.

As we drove into the park, the students started cheering as they saw what the park had to offer. We unloaded all

the gear and started setting up the tents; these varied a great deal and ranged from Taj Mahal type set ups to

tents that looked like small beach huts. The majority of students did really well in setting up their tents without too

much trouble. It was then time to get into groups and start the fun filled activities!

There was a wide range of activities for the students to participate in and these included: Initiative games where

students were challenged to think critically and problem solve in teams. This worked on their communication

skills as well as their ability to think outside the square. Students also had the chance to collect a pet rock and

decorate it with all sorts of goodies. The rocks were then given homes and even a birth certificate so that they

can be cherished forever.

Other activities included swimming in the resort style pool and playing games in the supersize park where the

jumping pillow was a hit! All of Year 7 had the opportunity to stroll along the shores of Racecourse Beach and

ventured around the headland to Kioloa Beach. We were so lucky to have perfect weather on the first day of

camp but things quickly took a turn for the worse.

On Thursday morning, we woke to some light drizzle and a few clouds in the sky but this didn’t dampen our spirits

as we all set out for an early beach walk. When we returned, we had a delicious breakfast and then started the

assigned activities for each group. We were fortunate enough to get through the entire range of activities bar one

before the torrential rain bucketed down upon us. Due to the quality of some of the tenting arrangements and

bedding, rising creek levels and very wet students, we decided that the safest and more pleasant option would be

to return to school. The students cheered when Ms Gilbert informed them of our plan (and we thought they were

all having fun!). We understood that dry clothes and a warm bed were pretty high on everyone’s priority list.

The fun really started when we arrived back at school and we had to unload all the gear in extremely heavy rain.

It was overwhelming to see so many parents chipping in to help get this done faster. It was absolute chaos yet

people were still smiling and doing their upmost to make the best of a bad situation.

Congratulations to all of our Year 7 campers who were and continue to be exemplary students. They all made

the best out of every opportunity that was presented to them. We are extremely proud of you and are looking

forward to many more adventures together over the next six years.

A special mention to all of the staff who made this camp possible. Thank you to Mrs Lane, Mr Warner, Mr

Crossman, Mr Lee, Ms Horder, Mrs Choat, Ms Cunningham, Mr Snelling, Ms Meehan, Ms Holloway and Ms

Gilbert for making Year 7 camp such an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

HAVING FUN!!!!!

Cross Country Information: Vincentia High School will be hosting their Annual Cross Country event on Thursday 6th April 2017 at Plantation Point. Students will attend period 1 and period 2 as normal, then walk to Plantation Point after recess, under the supervision of teachers. Students who ride their bikes to school will gather at the bike shed at the end of recess.

At the conclusion of the Cross Country, students will walk back to Vincentia High School, under the supervision of teachers, to catch their school buses as normal.

The first 8 students for each group will qualify for the Zone Cross Country held on Friday 12th May

All students are required to attend this event as it is a normal school day. Students are encouraged to bring

a water bottle, sun screen and a hat for protection.

Please ensure all appropriate foot wear and PE uniform is worn to participate in this awesome event.

Honour Society On Tuesday 14

th March Vincentia High School will be holding its annual Honour Society assembly, recognising the

academic and extra-curricular milestones of our amazing students. Invitations have been sent out and the awards

have been carefully set aside in anticipation for the big day.

As this new initiative gains momentum amongst the school and wider community here are a few FAQ’s.

What is the Honour Society?

The Honour Society recognises the academic and extra curricula achievements of our students throughout their

entire schooling career here at Vincentia High School.

How does it work?

Students are awarded credits for various activities and achievements in all areas of the school. They are tracked

from year 7 through to year 12. The level of achievement will depend on the amount of credit they receive. To be

credited, a student must act as a representative of the school, and must be attached to a school coordinator or

advisor. A few examples include:

● Final year grades for each subject A (3 credits), B (2 credits) and C (1 credit)

● Volunteering for the Shoalhaven Colour Run (2 credits)

● Futsal state competition (4 credits)

● Showcase participant (2 credits)

What are the rewards?

To recognise the students’ achievements they are rewarded as they reach incremental milestones:

● 50 – Bronze Medal

● 75 – Silver Medal

● 100 – Gold Medal

● 125 – Exclusive Honour Society Pin

● 150 – Honour Society Patch

● 175 – Commemorative Engraved Plaque

● 200 – Personalised Embroidered Pennant to be hung in the school halls

● 250 – Portrait to be hung on the schools ‘Wall of Honour’ in the library

When do they receive these rewards?

There are three events throughout the year in which students receive their recognition.

The first being the Honour Roll Assembly held during the first term of the year, whereby the entire school cohort –

along with invited guests – celebrate the achievements of those students that have reached a milestone.

The second is during the year 12 graduation assembly whereby students are presented with their awards, alongside

their graduating certificates.

Finally the student whose portrait will be hung on the Wall of Honour will be acknowledged on presentation day at the

end of the year.
