January Building Fun!
The grade 1 class had fun building class projects in January. To the left, Grade 1 Dustin, made rockets when collaborating with the Mrs. MacPhail’s Grade 6 class, pictured Tharyn and Chase.
And the Grade 1 students were also busy building polar bear dens out of marshmallows and tooth-picks. The students were learning about building materials and how to make strong structures in science, and then put their skills to the test! Pictured to the right, Sadie, Dallyn and Suzie. There are more of the Grade 1 polar bear den pictures displayed on the hallway monitor across from the main entrance doors in the school.
School Council News
Kinsmen Skate-a-thon: The annual Skate-a-thon will be held Thursday, February 15th at the Hock-ey Hounds. We would appreciate some parent volunteers at the rink to help tie skates and super-
vise students. Please contact the school if you are willing to assist the morning of February 15th.
This year, Skate-a-thon is only $2 to participate in, and snacks will be provided. Pledge envelopes will go home for participating students. Those students who have sponsors for a minimum of $2.00 will be eligible for great prizes.
Vincent Massey does not support students going door to door for contributions.
As well as supporting the Kinsmen, Vincent Massey School Council receives 42% of all monies raised to help support
the programs and field trips at our school. Thank you for your support with this cause!
Also please keep watch for our new fundraising ideas coming soon which will get you thinking of BBQ, camping,
and hot summer nights, to help get through the winter!

commitment to the program CONGRATULATIONS! Please be extra careful driving by the school in very cold weather: our patrollers do not go out if the temps drop too low. 18th ANNUAL CHESS CLUB TOURNAMENT
Vincent Massey’s Annual Chess Tournament will begin Wednesday, January 31st and will continue until the end of March when the School Champion will be crowned. A difference this year is that the tourna-ment will take place during our school Fine Arts time. Only those stu-dents who have participated in chess club so far this year will be allowed to participate. This tournament is a great opportunity for the students to test the skills they have learned and display good sportsmanship. This Vincent Massey tradition is some-thing that the students, Dr. Taylor and Mr. McIntosh look forward to each year and we antici-pate that once again all the participants will find it extremely rewarding. Pictured here, the
trophy participants will be competing for.
Thanks again to Dr. Taylor for the years of commitment he has shown to Vincent Massey
Chess Program and our students, it is greatly appreciated.
