ANPR is particularly useful for town centres, along routes and around large grade separated roundabouts and gyratories.

ANPR has numerous advantages compared with the traditional manual methods of number plate data collection, especially where surveys are required on fast / high traffic volume roads, or at inaccessible locations. Advantages include increased confidence in data legitimacy and accuracy, aswell as reduced concerns over health and safety.

This method can also be a cheaper and less intrusive way of understanding vehicle origins and destinations than the Roadside Interview Survey method.

GPS systems are ideal for journey time surveys; they legitimise all data as there is such a high confidence in the authenticity of the results. Vincent Knight has its own, long established, GPS system. We link the receipt of satellite data to simultaneous video recordings of a journey. This has enabled us to link GPS time / location stamped videos to OS mapping software and consequently analyse a variety of traffic survey information from vehicle movements.

GPS / video commissions to date include numerous journey times surveys, and borough-wide and other major parking studies where we have plotted the exact location of parked vehicles from the combination of GPS and video.

Online surveys can be offered as an additional option where questionnaires are distributed for self completion and return via the post, as they are proven to help boost response rates. This can include public transport, private transport or other travel survey exercises. for example, postcard based Roadside Interview Surveys, or multi-disciplinary Public Transport Surveys. Online questionnaires can also be used ‘stand-alone’ where suitable, for example to target a particular focus group such as employees or students.

Vincent Knight is able to offer a complete online research package including survey design, online questionnaire design, subsequent data management, data editing and processing, and the analysis and reporting of findings.
