1. CONTROLLER OF CHAOS AND CONTENT
You have an important Job to Do as Controllers of Web Content! (add it to the list).
2. IMPORTANT TECHIE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT WEB SITES
We use a CMS called Liferay “A content management system (CMS) is software that enables non-technical users to store, organize and publish web content easily.“
IMPORTANT TECHIE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT WEB SITES
Techie things to know:
-H1 Tags- <h1> defines the most important heading.
-Title Tags- The <title> tag is required in all HTML documents and it defines the title of the document.
The <title> element: -defines a title in the browser toolbar-provides a title for the page when it is added to favorites-displays a title for the page in search-engine results
IMPORTANT TECHIE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT WEB SITES
Techie things to know:
-Meta Tags (Metadata is data (information) about data).
The <meta> tag provides metadata about the HTML document.
Metadata will not be displayed on the page, but will be machine parsable.
Meta elements are typically used to specify page description, keywords, author of the document, last modified, and other metadata.
The metadata can be used by browsers (how to display content or reload page), search engines (keywords), or other web services.

Managed by Content Owners!
3. HOW TO IDENTIFY YOUR ASSETS
“You can’t manage what you don’t know you have.” -jll
An Asset is anything that can be of value…including information/data (aka web page content).
3. HOW TO IDENTIFY YOUR ASSETS
Asset Information management is a critical role in Web Page Management.
-Identify the Asset –what is it?
-Designate an Asset Owner –who is responsible for management of the information/data.
-Classification –How should we treat it?..Grouptogether (such as public and private).
3. HOW TO IDENTIFY YOUR ASSETS
Assets management is done so that the organization can:
-Set expectations on security…who should have access.
-Identify value.
-Identify impact if data loss happens…should be back this data up somewhere? Can we delete it after a period in time?
-Understand the importance of the Asset (what process or procedure would fail if no longer available).
4. MANAGEMENT OF ASSETS
-Web Page Review:
-Web Content Display Portlet (pluggable user interfaces to collect data)
-Documents – Media Types
Folders – permissions (public and private)
-Font types, and other standards
5. FORMS PEOPLE CAN’T FIND
SEO- Search Engine Optimization –” Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic by increasing the visibility of a website or a web page to users of a web search engine.”
5. FORMS PEOPLE CAN’T FIND
SEO- Search Engine Optimization –” Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic by increasing the visibility of a website or a web page to users of a web search engine.”
We have to think about forms as information assets that need to work as or in Conjunction with Web Pages, so search functionality will work with quality and quantity.
5. FORMS PEOPLE CAN’T FIND
Cleanup is needed!
Old forms, pages….are creating noise and bottlenecks for the search tool to work with Quality and Quantity.
6. FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE 1/10 KIND
“People make snap judgments. It takes only 1/10th of a second to form a first impression about a person.
Websites are no different.” – website design industry
6. FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE 1/10 KIND
Ideas for making your Web Pages “polished” and more like a butterfly (caterpillars are nice, but…)
-Change the background so that we can distinguish between Public and Private pages.
-Create a Banner –polished and professional to make each page look consistent and professional.
-Standards on Font size, Nav Bar, Document placement…
-Other ideas???
