Young people will shape the future and they will do it in a world of relentless change and diversity. We need to equip them with skills that will allow them to do this in a peaceful and pragmatic way.
The SGENeration Global is an activity that provides an opportunity for students from
member schools of the Southville Global Education Network (SGEN) to engage in an inter-
active dialogue about the range of beliefs, values, and attitudes that they hold through
facilitated video conferences. It is open to all Junior and Senior High School students of the
SGEN member schools: South Mansfield College (SMC), Southville International School and
Colleges (SISC), Stonyhurst Southville International School-Batangas City Campus (SSIS-B),
Stonyhurst Southville International School-Malarayat Campus (SSIS-M), and Asian SEED
Academy for Technology (ASAT). This year, we are honored to be hosting this event, again
The event’s ultimate aim is to provide an opportunity for SGEN students to build ca-
maraderie and friendship and interact with their peers in a dialogue where they can share,
listen to, respond to, understand, and reflect on perspectives about a varied range of top-
ics. In doing so, they will be demonstrating key skills for global citizenship which include re-
spectful dialogue, information technology, cooperation, conflict mediation, reflection,
global awareness, and identity literacy. They are also expected to demonstrate effective
dialogue skills such as critical thinking, active listening, thinking before speaking, speaking
and responding positively, respect for differences, and reflection.
The students’ conversations will revolve around the 5Ps of the United Nations’ Sustain-
able Development Goals: Planet, Peace, Prosperity, People, and Partnerships, taking into
consideration the current political and social climate that we are in. These talks will be
streamed through the school’s Facebook page. The schedule is as follows:

I t's been a great jumpstart of the VOLT Program for AY 2021-2022! It has been a success as much
as it was a challenge. In response to the challenges and constraints brought about by this pan-
demic in the education system, Stonyhurst Southville International school continues to find ways
on how we can rise above the current circumstances. The Stonyhurst community believes that
there's a fine ingredient that contributes to the achievement of our goals and that is 'Rigor'.
Join us on October 23, from 9:00 AM and let's find out how Academic Rigor can be a Catalyst
for our Future Success!
Specifically, here's what you can learn:
• What is Academic Rigor?
• How is Academic Rigor crucial to the learning and achieving process?
• How are Academic Rigor practices built into the SSIS Curriculum and the VOLT Pro-
gram?
• How have Academic Rigor practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment helped
SSIS Students and AlumKnights achieve?
So, please look out for the Zoom link that will be sent to you the day before the event and let us
all learn how to be a more rigorous community, as one. We're all in this together despite daunting
limitations. Let's find courage in our resilience and deep comfort that with grit, growth mindset, and
rigor, we can achieve despite Covid19!

A s an active boy, Kaiel has to undergo several adjustments during this time
of pandemic. Tasks that involve physical demonstrations and collabora-
tions among classmates were activities that he enjoys and finds interest in.
The absence of physical interactions challenged him in the early months
of lock down. The continuous improvement in the VOLT program made it easier for
him to cope with these challenges.
The presence of collaborative activities through different online platforms gave
him opportunities to continuously interact with his teachers and classmates. Learn-
ing continued to be exciting and fun for him. He learned how to become more in-
dependent and responsible to get things done as to how it was expected.
As parents, we are very much pleased with how our young boy enjoys and
learns during this trying time. We would like to thank Stonyhurst who continuously
provides quality education with or without pandemic. Keep it great Valiant Knights!
With the end of the Mid-term Test
week, we celebrate our successes and expe-
riences that have deepened our knowledge!
Good job and thank you for doing your
best. As we await the results, remember,
we’re behind you, cheering you on.
To inspire you a little more, here is an
account about the VOLT experiences of Sixth
Grader, Kaiel Sven B. Masilang.
Thank you for inspiring us all, Kaiel! We hope that you keep this positive spirit.

D ialogue skills are important for children’s development
and wellbeing. That’s because being able to have
conversations helps children make friends, be listened
to, ask for what they need and develop strong relation-
ships with others:
Your children learn a lot about conversations from talking
and listening with you. So you can help them develop conversa-
tion skills just by stopping to talk with them whenever you can. Oth-
er than this, here are some more techniques that you can apply:
Managing interrupting. Interrupting usually happens when chil-
dren can’t control their urge to talk. But unless it’s an emergency,
it’s important to help your child learn to wait. Letting others finish
what they’re saying or doing is part of positive communication
and helps children get along with others.
Listening more than speaking. Remember that we are all given
two ears and one mouth. This is to remind us that we should spend
twice as much time listening as talking. This is especially important
when talking to teenagers, who may tell us more if we are silent
long enough to give them the opportunity.
Update your opinion of their rights and freedoms. You need to
willingly give teenagers the right of more freedom when they are
ready to behave responsibly. For every right they gain, there is a
responsibility that goes with it.
Develop critical thinking. Encourage kids’ curiosity by asking
them lots of questions about why they think what they think. Par-
ents should also not dismiss children’s speculative questions, but
encourage them to think those questions through.
