A note from the Editor… The daylight hours are getting longer, the winter solstice is behind us and Easter is just round the corner. All that must mean that the Spring is coming…. As we observe the natural rejuvenation and look forward to a brighter period, we can also look back over what we have done since last Spring. To this end the Annual Meeting of the Village Venture, which I mentioned in the last issue, has now been set for 29th April—see page 4 for details. This will be an opportunity to review the financial situation and to look at ways to take the magazine forward. As I have said on many occasions, this is your magazine and its future depends on your support in terms of advertising and/or contribution of other items for publication. One such contributor is Geoff Burton whose latest piece is on page 35and who is organising an interesting exhibition on 1st May. Please remember that the deadline is always the 18th of the month prior to the month of issue. If special circumstances necessitate a change of date I give as much notice as possible. COMMUNITY POLICING Hello Dear Reader!
There are some changes happening in your local Neighbourhood Policing Team. We have a new PCSO Neil Harrison who is going to be working across both of the Hemswell and Welton beats. Neil is a former Warrant Officer in Corps of the Royal Engineers. He brings some great ex-perience with him as he used to work as a Community Protection Officer Supervisor in the Redcar area of Middlesbrough. I will be, temporarily, leaving you! I have been appointed as the Acting Sergeant at Market Rasen Police Station, possibly, for the next six months. My replacement will be PC 597 Jan Powell. Jan is a response and patrol officer who currently works at Nettleham. He is a very experienced officer who will no doubt build on the relationships we have forged within the community during the last two years. The ‘changeover‛ will take place on 17th March 2010. PCSO Julie McFaul is not going to London! She has transferred her application to Lincolnshire Police and awaits an interview. I‛m sure you‛ll join me in wishing her the best of luck for that! NOTES FROM THE MEETING OF SCAMPTON PARISH COUNCIL HELD AT 7.30pm ON FRIDAY 12th MARCH 2010, AT BSA HALL, AISTHORPE.
Present: Councillors M. Deacon (Chairman), S Ulyat, R. Patterson, L. Green, F. Fuller and Mrs B. Coleman (Clerk). PCSO Julie McFaul was also in attendance. PCSO Julie McFaul gave an update on the Neighbourhood Policing Team. PC Ian Cotton was taking over as Acting Sergeant at Market Rasen for six months and during this time his replacement would be PC Jan Powell. Julie herself was not now going to London and has transferred her application to Lincolnshire Police. We wished everyone well in their new ventures. There had been the theft of a motorbike from Devonshire Drive and theft in Cammeringham following a forced entry. If anyone has any information please let the police know. A gentleman was arrested in Scampton after a burglary in Ingham, as it had been reported that he was acting suspiciously. The interactive speeding device would be making more appearances now the weather was improving. PCSO Julie then left the meeting to resume her duties. Apologies – were received from Cllr. D Bennett and accepted from Cllr. C. Nicholson. Minutes of the Meeting of the 04.02.2010 were proposed, seconded and signed by the Chairman as being a true record. Village Project 1. The Chairman and Clerk had attended a meeting between Marshalls (the contractor) and Groundwork Lincolnshire (Architect and Project Manager) yesterday. Things were progressing well, if a little slowly and the Parish Council would report as soon as there were any definite dates or further developments.The paperwork for the new village signs had been received and consent had been given, subject to certain conditions. The Parish Council’s agreement was confirmed and the papers signed and returned to LCC for them to formally approval. RAF Liaison Held at RAF Scampton on 12th March 2010 and attended by Cllrs. Deacon, Green and Parish Clerk Mrs Coleman.The Clerk reported that the RAF had hosted a forum at the camp and they were trying to facilitate a Parish Plan. They were encouraged as 29 people had attended the last meeting and there was some evidence of the communities on the camp beginning to work together to improve their environment. IMPORTANT INFROMATION WHICH WILL ALSO AFFECT NEIGHBOURING PARISHES. While the Red Arrows are away Scampton has been chosen to host a noise survey which will be carried out using a RAF Typhoon fighter jet. This will be between 29th April and 7th May. A gantry will be erected to hold receivers with others placed at ground level to monitor the noise. There will be 108 sorties (operational flights) on 29th and 30th April and 4th May and flights will take place between the hours of 08.15 and 17.15 i.e. there will be no night flights. The RAF apologise for any inconvenience which may be caused. The trees for top of the village had been received and were heeled in at the moment. School Environment Day – Resulting from the relationship built up with Groundwork Lincolnshire they have offered to organise an environmental day for the school. This will be held on 29th March and will involve various environmental activities, including the building of bird boxes. Several members of the Council will support the school by attending to help with the activities. The Chairman had been sent a template for a bird box and agreed to provide some materials and cut out the boxes. The children could then complete which would be placed in the school wild area and on village trees. Street Lighting – The bracket street lights had been replaced and the rest would be replaced when they had been received by EOn. The Clerk is keeping the charging side of EOn informed so that our bills will be reduced accordingly. Risk Assessment. Cllr. Fuller had carried out a review of the Risk Assessment and reported her findings to the Council. The Clerk would contact Transco regarding the gas cover outside the school car park, which is a trip hazard. Standing Orders – The Clerk would contact LALC to get a copy of the suggested Standing Orders for Parish Councils. Parking on Pavements – The Parish Council would ask people to consider others and not to park vehicles on the pavements. The pavements are very narrow and people in wheelchairs and pushing prams are forced to walk in the road to get round them. [Continued on page 7]

FROM YOUR PARISH PRIEST My dear friends,
EARLY IN THE MORNING... If you’re thinking about coming to church on Easter Day, and you look up the options in this magazine, you might well ask yourself “Why on earth is there a service at Scampton Church at 5.30 in the morning? Surely all sensible people are in bed at that time?” Well, yes, they are, you are. Unless you’re up early because you’ve got something very special to do on that day. Fishermen might well be up early, for example, or birdwatchers. A Spring Sunday morning is a good chance to be up early, seize the day, and make the most of it. On Easter day, two women were up early because they had something to do. They had a tomb to visit, in order to give the body buried there better treatment than it had received on the day it was buried, the Friday before. But they found no body, and this is the beginning of Easter. So some of us go to church very early on Easter Day, to try to recapture something of their experience. This year, for the first time, the service is in Springline, at Scampton Church. It won’t be like any other service in the whole year. It will start in darkness; it will finish in a blaze of light. It’s worth going to. Breakfast is provided afterwards. There is usually food and drink associated with Christianity. For me as the parish priest, my final service on Easter Day, at Owmby Church at 6.00 pm, will also involve food and drink, for it will be Holy Communion, with bread and wine. Again, why? Because on the evening of Easter Day Jesus of Nazareth, who had been buried in that tomb three days earlier, sat down with two friends in a small town called Emmaus, and shared their supper. They recognised him in the breaking of bread. Don’t ask me what went on and how it happened. But it did, and it does. Religion, especially Christianity, having been for years the thing we ignore, has now become the thing we have to take notice of, usually in quite a critical fashion. Christians celebrate Easter because they believe in it. They may not all believe in all of it in exactly the same way, but they do believe in it. It makes a difference to the way they live their lives, and so it makes a difference to the way the world is. And even if sometimes there don’t seem to be a lot of Christians just round here, there are indeed an awful lot of them around the world. They we make a difference. If you think the world is not all it should be, and you want to make a difference, why not get up at 5 on Easter Day & join us at Scampton Church at 5.30? It’ll certainly be different.

INGHAM PARISH COUNCIL Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of Ingham Parish Council
Date: Monday 8h February 2010 Venue: Ingham & Cammeringham Village Hall Attendance: Councillors: M. Duckworth; D. Howe ; K. Lewin; P. Heath; R. Wensley (Chairman); M. Dickinson; P. Bateman; K. Wagstaff. Also attending: A. McCreath (Outgoing Clerk/Finance Officer); A. de Laine (Incoming Clerk/Finance Officer; M Slack (Village Caretaker), S Skayman (P3 Liaison Officer) County Councillor Kinch and 1 member of the public Items raised in the public forum S.Skayman advised the Council that the potential of an accident occurring owing to gravel/stones overflowing from driveways to footpaths and highways was becoming an increasing problem in several areas (West End & Saxon Way). Clerk to contact Highways to ascertain ruling on area of responsibility. No Apologies for absence Clerk’s Report on matters outstanding Large pot hole at the junction of Church Hill and the B1398 has been reported but not yet completed. Light permanently on in Churchfield has been reported. Salt bins on Lincoln Rd. & Grange Lane have been reported. Clothes bank full has been reported, see Caretakers report. Lease rent – letter sent to Mouchel agreeing rent proposal. Wickstead asked to go ahead with safety inspection. Phone Box adoption – completed contracts have been returned to YEDL at BT. Offer letter sent to Andrea de Laine who has accepted the position of Clerk. The Village caretaker reported that a new larger Salvation Army clothes bank had arrived and the smaller, full one removed. Also that the Christmas tree had been removed along with fly tipping on the outskirts of the village. A blocked drain in Grange Lane had been unblocked and refuse removed from the dyke at the edge of the playing field and from the playing field itself. The pot hole on the Black Horse corner is deteriorating – Clerk to report. The two new litter bins have arrived, one will be fixed to the Post Office wall the other requires additional fixing bands which will be ordered once suitable location has been identified by Councillor Duckworth and the Village Caretaker. The P3 Liaison Officers reported that mesh has been placed on some footbridges but not all P3 Liaison Officer to contact LCC about this. Some Bridleways are in need of attention, P3 Liaison Officer to look into this. Second part of footpath from Grange Lane to Fillingham is extremely muddy, It was suggested that the farmer be contacted to ascertain if ploughing can be stopped short of the path in future. Items raised by Councillors for future agendas Councillor Lewin reported a number of complaints concerning vehicle encroachment on the Village Green Councillor Wensley and Village Caretaker to investigate the use of the three remaining warning signs – Agenda next Meeting. Councillor Lewin updated members on the additional play equipment – safer surface issue to be investigated by Councillor Lewin and Clerk – Agenda next Meeting. Councillors Wagstaff and Dickenson raised concerns on the undulating surface of the raised footpath in Grange Lane – Clerk to report this and remind Highways about one in front of the Noticeboard on the Village Green. Councillors Duckworth, Dickenson and Village Caretaker to do a Village Walk in order to list problems on highways and paths. The financial report was discussed. Proposed by Councillor Lewin, seconded by Councillor Duckworth and RESOLVED unanimously to pay cheques 711 to 712. Risk Assessment. Annual Review Risk Assessment has been updated with new insurance policy, essentially the same document as previous but with some higher liability, to be discussed at the next Meeting.

[Continued from page 11] Following general discussion it was decided that the Clerk write a letter to Highways requesting two additional Salt Bins for the Village, one to be sited at the corner of Grange Close and Grange Paddock and the other on the corner of West End at the redundant entrance to the caravan site. Proposed by Councillor Wagstaff , seconded by Councillor Heath, RESOLVED unanimously to request two additional salt bins. Sandbags to be checked by Councillor Duckworth, in terms of location, condition and quantity. Village Hall – Request for Funding Councillor Wagstaff gave a detailed explanation of the funding and expenditure of the Village Hall. The Grant Aid received from the Parish Council is used to subsidise the letting fee for residents of Ingham and Cammeringham. All other expenditure i.e. repairs/maintenance and new equipment is funded through fund raising initiatives. Councillor Lewin also pointed out that the Council had free use of these facilities. Following general discussion it was proposed by Councillor Heath and seconded by Councillor Dickenson that £1350 be paid to the Village Hall as funding for 2009/10. RESOLVED with 7 votes and 1 abstention. Councillor Wagstaff declared a personal interest and did not vote. Standing Orders – Changes and amendments Councillor Howe outlined the changes required to SO83 and following discussion on the two documents he had prepared and included in ‘correspondence’ it was agreed that these be amended – the clerk to amend the header on the Agenda and insert the amendment to SO 83 in the Standing Order file. Proposed by Councillor Howe and seconded by Councillor Dickenson and RESOLVED with 6 votes, 1 against and 1 abstention that SO 83 (B) be adopted as the new wording and placed in the Standing Orders, Proposed by Councillor Dickenson and seconded by Councillor Wagstaff and RESOLVED with 7 votes, 1 against that the wording for the ‘Agenda Header’ be changed to Councillor Howe’s proposed version with the addition of ‘parish’ in the first paragraph and ‘unless requested to do so by the chairman’ at the end of the second paragraph. Planning Matters to be Reported & Considered Application No. 125346 9 The Green Ingham. Proposal to erect single storey and 2 storey extensions to rear elevation. The Council should comment that no surface water be allowed to enter the foul sewer system. Proposed by Councillor Lewin and seconded by Councillor Dickenson and RESOLVED unanimously. Black Horse Planning and enforcement issues No further developments. Flooding Issues Councillor Duckworth informed the Council that he had met with T. Adams who had advised that ALL FLOODING incidents should be reported to Anglian Water by any resident of Ingham using the Water and sewerage service queries and emergencies number, 08457145145 as all calls are recorded for reference. Councillor Duckworth read out the draft letter he had composed regarding the inadequacy of the sewer system along Lincoln Road to take any additional building development. It was agreed that the Clerk would write the letter and send it to Head of West Lindsey District Council Planning Dept. with a copy to Anglian Water. Following consultation with all council members Councillor Duckworth agreed to amend the letter. Correspondence Received other than Agenda Items c) Letter received from Ingham Primary School regarding hard play area markings. The School intends to have these checked but requested more specific information following the complaint from Mr Peden. The outgoing Clerk had attempted to contact Mr Peden regarding the hard play area markings, despite two messages no response had been received. Councillor Lewin to contact Ingham School for Mr Peden’s address. d) Police Notice advertising appointment of independent member has been displayed on Council Notice board. g) Grass Cutting quote received from Green Grass Contracting, indicating an increase of £5 per cut to be an Agenda item at the next meeting. Brattleby News April 2010. So it’s official, spring is finally here! The Buzzards are soaring over Brattleby and the Lapwings are looking for suitable nesting sites in the recently cut willow field on the hillside. All we need now is the Meteorological office to supply the weather. Considering Brattleby has only 47 dwellings and 95 residents it was inevitable there would eventually be a month with little or no village news and I’m afraid this is one of them. Of course there’s always village gossip; unfortunately, due to the restrictions of libel I am unable to give a full and frank report on the colour of Mrs Xs net curtains. However, the following may be of interest. The Housekeeping Monthly magazine 13th May 1955 advises the following on ‘being a good wife’. Have a nice meal ready for him on his return from work, as a way of letting him know you have been thinking of him during the day. Prepare yourself; take a few minutes to touch up your make up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh looking. He’s just spent the whole day with workweary people. Be a little gay and interesting for him; his day may have been boring and he might need a little lift and it’s your job to provide it. Clear away the clutter from the main part of the house before he arrives. During the cooler months of the year you should light a fire for him to unwind by; he will feel he has reached a haven of rest. After all, catering for his comfort will provide you with immense personal pleasure. If you have children: when he arrives home minimise the noise, turn off the washer and do not use the vacuum cleaner. Greet him with a smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him. Listen to him, remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours. Make the evening his. Never complain if he arrives home late, or goes out to dinner or other places of entertainment without you. Instead try to understand his world of strain and his very need to be able to relax. Your goal: try to make sure your home is a place of peace and tranquillity where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit. Don’t greet him with complaints and problems. Don’t complain if he stays out all night; count this as minor compared with what he’s been through during the day. Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink waiting for him. Arrange his pillow and offer to take his shoes off, speak in a soft soothing pleasant voice. Don’t question him or his actions. Remember he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness. You have no right to question him. Remember, a good wife always knows her place. Yes ladies this is a genuine report from 1955s ‘Housekeeping Monthly.’ And I know at least one housewife who needs to pull her socks up, or is it seamed stockings and susp … Er, perhaps not?

Great British Fish and Chip Supper – Friday 21st May 2010 Want to do something different? Want to raise money where you live or work? Want to eat Fish and Chips, while raising money for charity? Hold a fish and chip supper on Friday 21st May 2010 whilst raising awareness of spinal cord injury and supporting SIA’s information and support services. You can hold a fish and chip supper in your own home, at work or hold a larger supper at your local community centre. SIA will provide a fundraising pack containing hints and tips, recipes, invitations and donation envelopes. By inviting 7 friends and asking them to donate an additional £5.00 means you will raise at least £35.00 from your supper but we will also give you additional fundraising ideas to raise even more money for SIA. Last year we had over 80 suppers taking part in England and Wales. In 2010 we want to double that figure and ensure we can provide more support to spinal cord injured people. The money raised from the suppers will help the Spinal Injuries Association offer support to individuals who become paralysed and their families, from the moment a spinal injury occurs, and for the rest of their lives by providing services and publications which enable and encourage paralysed people to lead independent lives. Every year in the UK over 1,000 people experience a spinal cord injury and there are an estimated 40,000 spinal cord injured people in the UK alone. Community Fundraising Officer, Elizabeth Wright, says, “The Fish and Chip Supper is a wonderful opportunity for a great evening with friends and family. We are also encouraging people who work to hold a Fish and Chip Lunch in their work places to raise even more funds. You may be even a local community group wanting to run a fun evening with your group. THE TWO LITTLE PIGS – IN STORY BOOK LAND Ingham and Cammeringham Village Hall
On Friday and Saturday 19th and 20th February 2010, two pink-clad pigs were seen perform-ing Red Arrows style Aerobatics over Ingham. They were hotly pursued (but fortunately not caught) by Wolf and ‘French‛ Flash. The Neighbourhood Watch Team were called to the scene! This display announced the arrival of the 18th edition of Pantomime by The Ingham Players and what a show it was! Three performances with an enthralling story line. Panto it certainly was in every sense but it was also theatre. It was that good! First we have to acknowledge that there could be no Panto if we did not have the dedicated services of the writers: Bev Buckland and Emily Eady. Abigail Buckland did a grand job as Stage Manager and ensured things ran smoothly. Happily, we had the odd prompt or two and an ad lib or three and that is what makes Panto so special and such fun. Our devoted back stage team, once again with some spectacular costumes, props and scen-ery; the skilful lighting and sound and not forgetting the raffle and refreshments – all con-tributing so much to the success of the show. One has to comment on this year‛s pro-gramme – a pictorial WOW and worthy of keeping in your memorabilia file. All, and I repeat, all the cast were stars. I know not how many rehearsals went while the cast were learning their lines but what my party saw on Saturday afternoon was memorable. On stage were our performers representing a wide range of ages and all so perfectly cast. It is my belief that at least one of the ladies on stage was involved in the very first Panto and, eighteen years later, “still treading the boards” with charm and style. Sadly, but no doubt due to ‘elf and safety requirements we were alerted that BIG BANG was to occur at some time during the performance. We had long forgotten that warning, being more occupied hissing and booing and “Look, he is behind you” so, when it happened – great – and another WOW! As said, EVERYONE on stage was a STAR – and it showed and the applause at the end of the show reflected that emotion. Looking at just a few of the characters – and that is what they were on stage that afternoon: Flash (all French in dress, accent and onions!) – the Two Pink Pigs (all Primark and Next!) – Wolf (awesome) and Mouse (entirely delightful). Little Mouse (was he the youngest among the cast?) so deserved to be carried shoulder-high at the end of the show. We had the good fortune to have the full support of a “full orchestra” – ‘Contraband‛, as ever did us proud. This was a Pantomime to be enjoyed by all. Those who may have missed the event, missed a treat. Thanks to ALL who were involved in the production – well done.

RAF INGHAM HISTORY ON YOUR DOORSTEP
This is my last article before the RAF Ingham Exhibition, which is taking place in the Fillingham Village Hall on Saturday 1st May 2010. These articles were only ever intended to whet your appetite about the history of a little airfield on the top of the cliff, called RAF Ingham. Many people I’ve spoken to since the articles first appeared in the Village Venture, have either said “Oh, I didn’t know there was an airfield there” or “Yes, I knew it was an old airfield, but haven’t a clue, what went on there”. If you’ve been bitten by the local history bug, or you’re just fascinated about what happened on your doorstep some 60 something years ago, then come along on the 1st and really experience life at RAF Ingham during the war years.
Did you know? 1. The main Station Headquarters and administrative site was situated in Ingham Village, in fact those of you who live on Saxon Way, are living right on top of it! 2. The house that stands on the corner of Stow Lane and Lincoln Road is where the old RAF Sick Quarters used to be situated. 3. During 1943/4, Ingham Lane, between the ‘now Golf Ball Tower’ and the A15 was closed to road traffic. Why? Because the Air Ministry decided to extend the main runway across the road diagonally, from the bottom left corner of the airfield opposite the entrance to Manor Farm (on the A15), up across Ingham Lane into the field beyond. 4. RAF Ingham’s Main Guard Room, used to be situated on the entrance to the airfield, opposite Church Lane. 5. The Polish airmen were the largest overseas contingent to join the RAF during WW2. The main Polish War Cemetery for the Polish Air Force members of the RAF, is situated in Newark.
