Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We greeted 2020 with opti-

mism and hope. The arrival

of the Coronavirus, COVID-

19, took the whole world by

surprise. Well, maybe not

the whole world as it has

been proven that Chinese

officials were not truthful

about the extent and severi-

ty of COVID-19 resulting in

all of us suffering the conse-

quences.

And so it brings us here.

Our government recom-

mended changes in the way

we conduct our daily activi-

ties, social distancing, busi-

ness closures, limiting pub-

lic gatherings, personal hy-

giene, washing hands fre-

quently, wearing masks,

staying home when you’re

sick and other measures to

slow the contagion and

spreading of the virus. We

in the Village of Justice fol-

lowed suit. We passed ordi-

nances changing the ways

we operate, but our ser-

vices are continuing, resi-

dent requests are handled

promptly, the Finance, Pub-

lic Works and Building De-

partment employees are

working on a rotational

basis, and with added pre-

cautions the village is work-

ing well. Please call or

email any department

whenever you have ques-

tions or issues that need

attention. We will do our

best to help and assist you.

With the coming of spring,

we are continuing our ser-

vices of chipping, grass cut-

ting and cleaning so our

village looks nice.

Our businesses have been

hit hard. We are helping by

providing information to

them on how to access

grants, loans and other

available programs assist-

ing when necessary to guide

them through the process.

We are asking you to sup-

port our businesses when-

ever you can as many have

delivery and pick up ser-

vices. The village website is

continuously being updated

with information including

the businesses open in

town, how to access ser-

vices for individuals/

businesses and important

facts and contacts. Please

for these updates.

We’re All in This Together!

To try to uplift spirits, some

residents, employees and

elected officials made a vid-

eo which is on our website

and Facebook page. Please

watch it as they did an out-

standing job. The village

sincerely thanks our front-

line workers who have gone

above and beyond working

and trying to keep us safe.

We must also thank our

residents and businesses

for cooperating and doing

the best they can during

this pandemic.

There are also good things

happening in the village.

been ranked the 4th safest

city in the State of Illinois!

ment, Dispatchers and Com-

still honor the men and

women who have given

Medicines are found in nearly every home. When used as directed, these products are generally safe

for humans and the environment. However, unused or unwanted medicine needs to be disposed of

properly to help prevent accidental poisoning, substance abuse and contamination of water resources.

Unused or unwanted medicine should not be flushed down the toilet or poured into the sink. These

methods create the potential for harmful chemicals to end up in our lakes, rivers, streams and ground-

water. In fact, traces of some medicines have been found in water samples in 30 states, which have

been connected to harmful impacts on localized water ecosystems.

The best way to dispose of unwanted medicine is through a collection program. Our Village Hall is

home to a medicine collection box. You may drop off unwanted medicine during normal business

hours: Monday - Friday 8 am - 4 pm.

Below is a list of items that are commonly acceptable at publicly available collection sites.

Most prescription drugs

Vitamins and dietary supplements

Homeopathic remedies

Pet medications

For additional information on medication disposal, please contact the Illinois EPA at (217) 558-4115 or view the Illinois EPA’s

collection location fact sheet.

Memorial Day Celebration

On Monday, May 25, 2020, a Memorial Day Service is being planned to honor those men and women who have died while serving

in the armed forces. Although the service will be shortened, we will still honor all those who paid the ultimate price for our free-

dom. Please refer to our website for updates as they become available.

15th.

2. The Finance Office has adjusted their schedule to be open later for the following dates:

Justice Villagewide Spring Garage Sale

To be held on Friday, May 15th thru Sunday, May 17th

Free permits are available at Village Hall, 7800 Archer Road as of May 1

A large dumpster will be available for residents behind Village Hall from May 15th thru May 23rd

NOTE: The above are subject to change due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please refer to our website for updates or call the

village hall office at 708-458-2520.

RESIDENT REQUESTS:

Recently, the Building Department has been receiving anonymous letters. We would like our residents to know that we will not ad-

dress anonymous letters or pictures that come into our department. If you have any requests regarding issues that you may come

across, your letters, pictures and/or phone calls are important to us and are welcome as long as the letters and/or pictures are signed

and the correct address of the property in question is included.

GARBAGE PICK UP:

Furniture, debris and/or garbage cannot be at the end of your driveway until the day before garbage pick up. Leaving these items at

the curb is very unsightly.

For all single family homes, our waste hauler, Groot, will pick up two bulk items per week. If you have more than two items or

electronics, you must call Groot at 888-485-0900 to request a special pick up.

NOTE: During the shelter in place order, Groot will not be picking up bulk items. Once the shelter in place order is lifted,

they will start back to picking up bulk items.

For all multi-family units, contact the waste service provider for your residence for their specifications.

Please feel free to call the Building Department at 708-458-2130 with any questions or concerns.

CHIPPING:

Chipping has started and will be performed weekly on Monday and Tuesday, weather permitting, until October 26, 2020.

NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are working with limited staff. If we are not able to get to your residence by Mon-

day or Tuesday, we will try our best to chip sometime during the week.

THE FOLLOWING RULES APPLY:

1. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the following applies:

- Due to limited staff working, please trim only what is necessary or due to any storms, only in emergency.

- Do not place entire trees out at the curb.

2. Tree branches can be as long as possible but should not be more than 6 inches in diameter.

3. Branches should be placed with the cut end facing towards the street, not just thrown in a pile.

4. ROOT SYSTEMS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP OR CHIPPED.

5. PILES WITH FOREIGN OBJECTS, SOIL, STONE OR DEBRIS, WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OR PICKED UP.

6. Branch chipping is a free service to the single family residence of Justice only. Chipping is free for the first 15 minutes. If

there is an overabundance of branches, the homeowner will be charged $75.00 for every 15 minutes thereafter.

7. TREES CUT BY A CONTRACTOR MUST BE REMOVED BY THE CONTRACTOR IN ITS ENTIRETY. PUBLIC WORKS

WILL NOT REMOVE THESE BRANCHES OR THE TREE TRUNKS.

YARD WASTE (FOR SINGLE FAMILY HOMES ONLY)

If branches are cut in 36 inch lengths and placed in a container 60 lbs. or less marked “Yard Waste” or in the yard waste paper

bags, they will be picked up by Groot Disposal on Mondays until November 30, 2020, weather permitting. This also includes

leaves, grass cutting or weeds. You can pick up free “yard waste” stickers at the Justice Village Hall.

Please feel free to call the Public Works Department at 708-458-2961 with any questions or concerns.

The Village of Justice Economic Development Department is proud to offer The Hometown Heroes Banner Program. This program is a

way for Justice to honor veterans who have called Justice home. The Village is hoping for a wide diversity of participation - in age,

gender, ethnicity, service experience and time in Justice, whether long ago or more recent. All branches of the service are eligible -

Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and the National Guard. To participate, applications can be found on the village

website or picked up at the Building Department or Village Hall. Complete the application and submit it with a photo of the service member in uniform and a $100 payment. Crossmark Printing is

able to digitally correct old photos that may be torn or discolored and professionally enlarge them to fill a 24”x48” banner. This ban-

ner will be displayed on village light poles between Memorial Day and Veterans Day for two years. Your $100 payment covers the

cost of the production and printing of the banner, the hardware used to mount the banner, installation of the banner and a 5x7 ea-

sel backed digital copy of your photo. At the end of the two years, the banner will be presented to the veteran or the veteran’s family. Please contact Peggy Schillne, our Economic Development Coordi-

nator at (708) 458-2130 with any questions you may have about this program.
