Campobello School is committed to educate, motivate, and empower

all students to become lifelong productive members of a global socie-

ty

Grade 2 We have wrapped up The Christmas Wind Project in

grade 1-2! It was a very special and exciting project to

be part of. In Math we are adding two-digit numbers.

Many still don’t know their facts to 18, so make sure

you practice them at home. It makes it much easier. In

Writing we are working on procedural texts. We will be

busy this month creating our own. We are also trying

to write more in our journals! Writing is our focus this

month!! We are getting closer the Grade 2 Assess-

ment in Reading so we will be fre-

quently doing practice reading

comprehension activities.

Grade 1

We are authors! We are just finishing up a big

writing project, Fairy Tales. It has been weeks

of preparation. First we had to study fairy ta-

les and learn what to include. We then had to

plan, organize, draft, and finally write our

books. We can’t wait to invite some of the

classes to join us so we can read our stories.

Grade 3 In Math students have started a unit on fractions. They were worried fractions would be too challenging but they are coming along nicely. We have also been doing daily timed math facts. Students are trying to climb the pyramid to become math masters. This week in writing, students have been trying to add in details that relate to their senses (hear, taste, touch, smell, hear). These details really make their writing come alive for the readers. Students have been learning all about magnetic force in science. There have been a lot of neat experiments completed to learn how magnets work.

Grade 4/5

Students have completed a unit about school, from our schedules, subjects, what we use in the classroom and loca-tions throughout the school. Now stu-dents are working on a unit about their families. They have been working hard at speaking, listening, writing and reading. Some examples from books that the stu-dents created about their families, as well as themselves are shown on the

front page. They did a fantastic job!!

We are working hard, read-ing and writing, to meet end- of-year outcomes. We placed “we” and “had” on the word wall and have all the words on the list before them up! In math this month, our new outcome is measurement: longer, short-er, heavier, lighter and which container holds more or less.

Look who came for a visit!

The Grade 6 class is finishing up the

Space Unit with their final test and we will begin

discussing Electricity!

The Grade 7/8 class is continuing through some

biology information on cells and will be learning

about some of our organ systems.

Have a great April!!

Mr. McCallum

Miss Rideout’s Middle School French classes are finishing up their Inventions unit with the students creating a robot and pre-senting their robot to the class. The students are to make their robots at home and they were due April 4th,

2016.

Our next unit is going to be based on advertising and how it can be

analyzed in French. Keep up the great work!

Grade 7 Math

In Grade 7 Math, we are working away on a unit on Circles and Area. The students are learning formulas to find the area of many different shapes, such as parallelograms, triangles, and cir-cles. They are also learning how to rearrange the formulas to find an unknown quantity. We have resumed having Problem of the Week, so be look-ing for that—it constitutes a fair portion of their mark, so if it is “missing” on Engrade, their mark will reflect that. Please be checking Engrade on a regular basis, as I am trying to use it to keep par-ents and students up-to-date on assignments, tests and expectations.

-Mrs. Carten

Middle School Technology

The Grade 6 class are working on pencil holders.

Most students are

sanding and will be

applying paint or

stain to their pro-

jects next week.

Nice job everyone!

Theme of the month: Respect

High school Math Rocks!

Pre Calc 12 students are working hard on Limits! Some of them have reached theirs with this material (just kidding). I am so proud of them. The come in often to tell me they have been accepted into this or that program at community college or university and are eager to share that they have received scholarships. Those going into university courses requiring math should visit http://www.unb.ca/fredericton/science/depts/math/_resources/pdf/sampl

e.pdf to ensure they are prepared to write their math entrance exam.

NFR 10 students just finished a unit on roots and powers and are mov-

ing on to representing relations.

Those in GMF 10 are learning all about finances, looking at loans, com-pound and simple interest and the pros and cons of credit cards. If you child asks you about finances, please share with them as it helps prepare

them for the real world of finances.

Last but not least, my lovely Math 9 students are working on similar

polygons and just wrote a quiz. We are now moving on to transfor-

mations, reflections and line symmetry.

High School French

This group of students has been speaking French every class, and although they find it difficult, they try every time I call on them. Great work! We are still working through our Unit on Mystery and students will soon put their French to test playing a “Mystery” board game…. We will also soon be starting a reading circle with a French mystery book!

Mr. McCallum

Ms. Lee’s bit: April 7th! Wow!! This semester is really rocking

and rolling … In the next week or so, we will

send out report cards for High School classes.

Please make sure that you check engrade and

complete all missing

assignment! We are

here to help BUT

you need to put the

effort in to catching

up / staying on

track! You can do it!!

Coop 12-0

We will be reaching the mid-point of work placements this month and that means that super-visors will be providing me with a mid-term evaluation of your performances. From all my con-versations with Employers, they are all very pleased with their Coop students! Great Job every-one!! Keep up the good work and remember to get those Log Sheets handed in on Mondays!!

High School English

Grades 9, 10 and 11 English students are working their way through reading Shakespeare’s Macbeth. For students in Grade 9 and 10, this is likely their first experience studying Shakespeare, so they need to be especially vigilant in keeping up on their questions and studying a bit each night.

Introduction to Applied Technology

Students are finishing their residential electrical module this week and

are preparing to write their written test and practical exam next

week. They have learned how to install outlets, lights, switches and

3-way switches.

Students will soon be learning about plumbing. We will discuss how

water is supplied throughout a residential setting and how waste is

handled and treated. Students will also learn how to solder copper

supply lines.
