Landscape DesignRevitalization Project at old Central

Government OfficeHong Kong

Landscape DesignProject Name: Storm in a TeacupLocation: Central Government Office, Hong KongConcept: Central Government Office used to be a private space for government de-cision and meeting. In response to the removal of the office, I would like to make a contrast with the past. That is what our design concept is: a place for general public to speak out, air their opinion, like a forum for public.Tornado is a metaphor of ever-growing, diverging out situation with a central axis. In the design, I try to contruct the forum in the form based on this dynamic form to bring people into the centre for discussion and parade. With different levels forming a loop, not only general public, but also the disables can share the space . The forum is designed to have maximum free space for them to sitting at any posture so that they can have both a large group of parties and private talk.

Slope DesignThe slope wrapped around the forum is with different level of

elevation. Some can acts as poster panel and some can be capable for people to step on. The grid system

enhances the flexibilty so that the grass panels and seats can be re-arranged according to special

occasion to make a special slogan pattern or a family seat.

Project Name: The Diver SpotProject nature: Revitalization projectLocation: Diaolou and villages, Lung Kong Avenue, KaipingConcept: Kaiping Diaolou to me is a peaceful, quiet environment. During the trip I saw an old uncle shaping a bamboo strip under the tree. He was so surprised and happy that we come. I thought it is a really nice place to stay and refresh my mind. This leads to my inspiration of spa therapy to bring people, mainly metropolitan, to calm their soul and recharge their body. The foot spa house is not only for physical relaxation but also mental refreshment. The house is framed with various angle and direction of scenary for people during spa. This is to recall people that nature is always to best medicine.

Exhibition SpaceModular system designat Hong Kong Book FairHong Kong

Project Name: The Cage PavilionClient: Hong Kong Trade and Development CentreLocation: Hong Kong Book Fair 2010, Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition CentreConcept: Scaffolding is a Chinese traditional construction technique which can be routinely seen in Hong Kong. By growing in X, Y, Z direction, an ever-growing and strong structure can be made. Inspired by this technique, we try to build a rigid model with paper cardboard which is weak in nature. By means of interlocking the three modules in X.Y.Z directions, force applied a point can be efficiently shared and load can be bared. A powerful frame can be built by gathering the paper cardboard together which is originally weak. The structure is uniform and strong. It provides high flexibility of the use and at the same time retaining the strength of the whole structure.

Standardization of AccessoriesStainless steel net is used for holding the products. It creates a contrast with the giant paper structure. Also, the net provides rigid support with the transparency retained.

Workspace DesignWinner of Future workspace Design by MMoser Associate

Project Name: WhirlpoooLocation: Remex Centre,Wong Cheuk HangConcept:Aberdeen used to be well-known as fishing village in 60s. However, the industry has been declining in recent decades. Younger generation refuses to inherit the fishing business. It is a pity that much wisdom and technical skills of the Tanka family are lost. Meantime, in the coming 10 years, more and more offices move into the district. This widen the gap between the diminishing industry and office group.

With a hope to remedy the situation, I would like to set up a fish auction channel with the aim to link both office workers and fishermen together. Through fish auction, sea-food cooking programmes and live chat, busy metropolitan can have the chance to know more about local seafood with the convenience of mobile interactive TV, while fisher-men can have one more way to sell their fish , so as to improve their living quality.

WORK SPACE

Furniture DesignSpatial & Mood Device

Sitting Device

SPATIAL DEVICE Project Name: Waltz in the windConcept: I tried to create a spatial and mood device by exploring the possibility of bamboo, the fastest growing plant on earth. By series of trial and experiment, I decided to pick the bendability for further development. By heating and binding different thickness of bamboo stick together, a rigid but flexible structure can be made which can bear a load of 30kg.

SITTING DEVICE Project Name: Rocking BeanConcept: This is to design a public sitting device for the BYOB Hong Kong & Shenzhen Biennale 2009. I tried to construct my design within two pieces of 4’X8’ plywood without using any nails. During the process I have gone through different ways to maximize the patterns within two plywood boards. Also I studied various tongue and groove methods to join the meices together. Finally I come up with two pieces of skeleton cover with stripes. The vertical pieces acts as main structure while the stripes act as skin creating seating with a certain degree of bounciness due to the cutting orientation of plywood. This provides a soft rocking bench for couples to rest and enjoy the sunset.
