PASTOR’S LETTER

Dear Beloved Members and Friends,

During this month of April, we celebrate our Lord’s resurrection on Sunday, April 20, Easter Day. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed. Alleluia! We will worship our risen Lord at 7:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Easter Sunday. If you are in our ministry area on Easter, please plan to attend one of the Divine Services. Please invite a family member or friend to attend Easter and Holy Week services with you. Our risen Lord will bless you with His presence, Word, and peace.

Our King was raised on Easter day and what wonderful things we hear about. We see the sad and scared Marys, a picture of God’s sad and scared church, filled with joy at the angel’s message. We see the stone rolled back and no body in there, catching a glimpse of our own future graves. Christ’s empty tomb is a powerful testimony to the truth and reality of His resurrection. Our crucified King has delivered you from the fear of death. Your death will be the door to eternal life in heaven. The angel sits in a garden grave yard and proclaims a short but magnificent message. “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not there, for He has risen, as He said.” No need for fear in this fear-filled world, says the angel from heaven. This King has dealt with and conquered all that could ever make you afraid by His crucifixion and resurrection.

See how Mary Magdalene and the other Mary take hold of those feet of the risen Christ, as Jesus comes to them and preaches the same sermon “don’t be afraid.” They grasp and worship at the feet of our Savior and King who took the bed that Adam had made for people, laid in it for three days and emptied it of its dread and power. Martin Luther wrote, “The resurrection is comfort against the devil, sin, death, and hell. The first commandment not only to the women but to all baptized and believing Christians is: Fear not! There is joy, peace, and happiness in the kingdom of our resurrected Lord.

We will come to our risen Jesus and worship Him on Easter Sunday. You will sit and hear and learn the Word of our risen Lord. We will stand to sing and speak praises to our risen Christ. You will sit to give cheerful offerings to God. We will stand to bow our heads and fold our hands to pray to our risen Lord. We will kneel to receive our Lord’s Supper. We will eat Christ’s body in the bread and drink His blood in the fruit of the vine. We will proclaim our Lord’s death until He comes again in glory by receiving His Supper. Jesus will bless us with forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation.

It is good, right, and salutary for us to celebrate on Easter Sunday and throughout the Easter season. Jesus has risen from the dead just as He said. Our risen Christ is with you today and each day. May our risen Lord bless you and your family this month of April and always!

Pastor Terry Nelson

Who would ever look for God’s glory in a Crucified King? The Crucified King proclaims a King whose glory is shown not in His impressive power or strength, but chiefly in His showing mercy to sinners.

CONFIRMATION instruction, for young people in 7th and 8th grades, is held Wednesdays from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. Confirmation Sunday will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2014.

STEWARDSHIPCORNER

Seeking God First

During this Lenten season, our thoughts and hearts focus on the love that Jesus demonstrated to each of us by His willingness to suffer and die on the cross. Our heavenly Father loved us so much that He sent His one and only Son to live among us and die for us so that, through His Son’s death and resurrection, we could be reconciled with Him and sin and death would be conquered.

During Lent, we meditate on what Jesus has done for us and, by God’s grace, we may be led to develop a more disciplined lifestyle by giving up certain foods and/or activities in order to focus on our relationship with our Savior. Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). The first word in this verse is “but.” Jesus used this word because people are so worried about worldly things that we are too preoccupied to seek Him. Jesus promises that, if we will seek Him, He will give us what we need. What about you today? Are you seeking God with all your heart knowing that He can be trusted and will provide? Are you worrying too much about material things and relying too much on yourself? Have you embraced the attitude of our culture that “more is better”? Do you feel strained, exhausted, and breathless because of the rat race you can’t escape? In Christ, you can escape, and, through faith, you can freely “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,” knowing He will provide.

Prayer: Lord, place in me an attitude to seek You first. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Blessings on your journey as a steward!
