La culture influence la santé et la médecine ? Certainement. Par exemple, en France, tout le monde parle de son foie (liver). Les Français disent souvent, « J’ai mal au foie. » Aux Etats-Unis, on n’entend jamais dire ça. Pourquoi? Parce qu’aux Etats-Unis, une maladie du foie, c’est grave. Mais quand un Français dit qu’il a mal au foie, il veut dire tout simplement qu’il a un trouble digestif. Rien de grave. Il n’est peut-être pas dans son assiette aujourd’hui, mais il va vite être sur pied!

Aux Etats-Unis, par contre, on parle beaucoup d’allergies. De nombreux Américains souffrent d’une petite allergie. Les symptômes d’une allergie ressemblent aux symptômes d’un rhume. On éternue et on a souvent mal à la tête. Une allergie, c’est désagréable, mais d’habitude ce n’est pas grave. En France, on parle moins souvent d’allergies. Pourquoi? Qui sait? Vive la différence!

Task C. Text and Audio CombinedYou will read a text and then listen to an audio selection. First you will have a designated time to read a preview of the text and then you will have a designated amount of time to read the text.

For the audio selection, you will have a designated amount of time to read a preview of the audio selection as well as to skim the questions that you will be asked. The selection will be played twice. As you listen to the selection, you may take notes. Your notes will not be scored.

After listening to the selection the first time, you will have 1 minute to begin answering the questions; after listening to the selection the second time, you will have 15 seconds per question to finish answering the questions. For each question, choose the response that is best according to the audio and/or reading selection and mark your answer on your answer sheet.

SECTION THREE: CPA WRITING: The rubric by which you will be assessed on this section of the exam is on the page following these directions.

You will receive a prompt based on the themes from Chapters 8-14: traveling, sports, vacation, daily routines, leisure activities, health and doctor visit.

Your answer to the question you have chosen should be written entirely in French and should contain a minimum of 150 words. Be sure that your answer is original, using words and expressions which do not imitate other sections in this examination.

Place names and brand names written in French count as one word. Contractions are also counted as one word. Salutations, closings, and commonly used abbreviations are included in the word count. Numbers, unless written as words, and names of people are not counted as words.

Be sure that you have satisfied the purpose of the task. The sentence structure and/or expressions used should be connected logically and demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary with minimal repetition.

In order to prepare for the question possibilities for this section, be sure you have reviewed all of the vocabulary and grammar structures associated with the themes presented by your teacher for the entire school year. The following is a general list:
