EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT COMMON CORE AND MORE!

These engaging, grade level workshops will provide parents with knowledge they need to support their child’s learning all year long. An in-depth look at the state standards and state assessments will be provided and tips given on how parents can support homework AND engage their child in meaningful learning at home activities to support schoolwork. Look below and choose your child’s grade level. You have the choice of morning or evening to attend these interactive offerings!

ENGLISH LEARNER PARENT ACADEMY Eight-Week Module

This eight-week module is strategically crafted to meet the needs of the English Learner parent in helping their child with learning and being a successful student, and working on their own literacy. Parents will learn how to communicate effectively with school personnel, learning the right questions and navigating the school system. During the eight weeks, parents will gain knowledge on how to support their child’s homework even if the parent is not proficient in English yet. Discussions will also center on volunteering and taking leadership roles at their child’s school. Very exciting things will be happening for our ELL parents this year!

HOMEWORK PARTNERSHIPS, K-6

Want to change your child’s homework experience from a stressful time to a successful time? Please plan on attending one of the Homework Partnerships workshops listed below! Tips, ideas, and practical resources will be shared with parents to de-stress homework time in your home and build a “homework-friendly” home!

KINDERGARTEN ACADEMY Four-week module

Calling all Kindergarten parents! Come and join us in a very informative, fun four-week academy that addresses Kindergarten readiness, state standards in ELA and Math, learning styles, and tips and tricks for engaging young children in learning at home ideas. We’ll go over the new report cards and assessments that are given in Kindergarten as well.

PARENTS ARE TEACHERS TOO! First and Second Grades

These engaging, grade level workshops will provide parents with knowledge they need to support their child’s learning all year long. We will discuss learning styles, developmental milestones, and how best to support learning at home that connects with school. The state standards and assessments will also be covered.

ANNA BORBA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SMARTS PARENT ACADEMYSeven-week Module

This will be the seventh year that CVUSD has provided the award-winning, research-based California PTA parent engagement program entitled, School Smarts Parent Academy! The School Smarts Parent Engagement Program is a model for creating meaningful and diverse parent involvement. It brings parents from all backgrounds together in support of their common interest: helping their children and schools succeed. This module is provided for Anna Borba parents, but all parents are welcome to attend.
