1. Part 1 – General

1.1 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. The air cooled modular chiller system shall be a SAMSUNG Electronics DVM Chiller System. The DVM Chiller shall be heat pump (cool/heat) system.

B. The variable capacity, air cooled modular chiller system shall consist of the combinations of DVM Chiller units detailed in the table below with recommended pipe diameters per combination.

C. The air cooled modular chiller system shall consist of AG01*KSVA*H/AA air cooled modular chiller unit and SAMSUNG DVM S NASA Control Network Solution (Control systems). The AG01*KSVAFH/AA air cooled modular chiller unit shall be a 208/230 volt, three phase unit. The AG01*KSVAJH/AA air cooled modular chiller unit shall be a 460 volt, three phase unit.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The units shall be listed by Electrical Laboratories (ETL) and bear the ETL label.

B. All wiring shall be in accordance with the National Electrical Code (N.E.C.).

C. The units shall be manufactured in a facility registered to ISO 9001 and ISO14001 which is a set of standards applying to environmental protection set by the International Standard Organization (ISO).

D. A full charge of R-410A shall be provided in the air cooled modular chiller unit.

E. The installing contractor must have attended Samsung DVM Chiller installation training prior to installing the system.

F. Service and installation manuals must be readily available on the manufacturer’s website without entering a username and password.

2. Part 2 – Chiller Unit Performance

2.1 The DVM Chiller units shall perform as indicated below (Nominal capacity):

A. General:

The air cooled modular chiller system shall consist of the AG01*KSVAFH/AA air cooled modular chiller units and SAMSUNG DVM S NASA Control Network Solution (Control systems). The AG01*KSVA*H/AA air cooled modular chiller units shall be equipped with multiple circuit boards that interface to the SAMSUNG DVM S NASA Control Network Solution (Control systems) and shall perform all functions necessary for operation. The air cooled modular chiller unit shall have a powder coated finish. The air cooled modular chiller unit shall be completely factory assembled, piped and wired. Each unit shall be run tested at the factory.

1. The air cooled modular chiller shall have current control to limit current (50% - 100% of design current) adjustable at air cooled modular chiller unit or central web accessible, control devices: MIM-D01AUN, MIM-B17BUN, or MIM-B18BUN.

2. The air cooled modular chiller compressors shall be SAMSUNG, hermetically sealed, inverter driven, direct vapor injected, asymmetric, DC scroll type. No fixed capacity compressors shall be present in the refrigerant system.

3. The air cooled modular chiller unit (individual modules) shall have a sound rating no higher than 62 dB (A).

4. The heat pump air cooled modular chiller unit shall have a high pressure safety switch, high voltage fuses, over-current protection, phase detection protection, low pressure protection, compressor overcurrent protection, current transformer(s), crank case heating, and intelligent logic to ensure proper operation within unit design limitations and operational parameters.

5. The inverter compressor PCB(s) shall be cooled with liquid refrigerant circuit(s) to operate at optimal temperatures and to prevent failure due to overheating. No compressor inverter PCB’s shall be cooled by air over heat sink. Cooling inverter components without air-cooling fins prevents failure due to environmental contaminants.

6. The air cooled modular chiller unit shall be capable of operating in ambient temperatures between 5F ~ 118F while in cooling mode.

7. The air cooled modular chiller unit shall be capable of operating in ambient temperatures between -13F ~ 109F while in heating mode.

8. The air cooled modular chiller unit shall have high efficiency, individual oil separator(s) for each compressor plus additional logic controls to ensure adequate oil volume in the compressor is maintained.

9. The compressors shall have flash injection capability to increase performance in both heating and cooling modes. This will be automatically enabled by the

air cooled modular chiller unit(s) by forcing saturated refrigerant vapor directly into the scroll compression cycle increasing mass flow and overall system capacity.

10. The air cooled modular chiller unit shall have a removable EEPROM’s at the Main PCB and Hydro PCB to store all unit data. All data on the air cooled modular chiller unit EEPROM’s shall be viewable from the manufacturer provided service software. The air cooled modular chiller unit EEPROM’s shall be removable allowing replacement of air cooled modular chiller unit PCB’s without losing digital, field programmed data. The air cooled modular chiller unit removable EEPROM’s shall store the following unit data: unit model number, unit serial number, unit main PCB firmware and MICOM version, sub-PCB firmware and MICOM version, fan PCB firmware and MICOM version, inverter PCB 1 and inverter PCB 2 firmware and MICOM version, auto-trial commissioning startup data, the last 30 minutes of operation data, hydro PCB settings, and field programmed unit name/tag viewable on controls and service software.

11. The air cooled modular chiller unit shall have the ability to discharge inverter PCB capacitor voltage using service buttons on the air cooled modular chiller unit main PCB. The capacitor stored-voltage discharge feature shall allow safe inverter PCB replacement.

12. The air cooled modular chiller unit shall allow temporary disabling of individual compressors to allow system operation at reduced capacity after a compressor or compressor component related issue (when more than one compressor is present in system). Disabling of a compressor shall temporarily remove error codes and allow system operation.

13. The air cooled modular chiller unit compressors shall have a soft-start function to reduce electricity demand during system start and to increase compressor reliability.

14. In the event of system error due to air cooled modular chiller unit failure, the air cooled modular chiller unit shall display codes that specify a precise error and which air cooled modular chiller unit PCB is the cause (main PCB, HUB PCB, IPM 1, IPM 2).

B. Unit Cabinet:

1. The chassis shall be fabricated of galvanized steel, bonderized and finished with a powder coated baked enamel.

C. Refrigerant

1. R410A refrigerant shall be required for the air cooled modular chiller unit.

2. The air cooled modular chiller unit shall come pre-charged with R410a refrigerant. No additional refrigerant is required.

D. Heat Exchanger:

1. The air cooled modular chiller unit heat exchanger shall be a stainless steel brazed plate heat exchanger.

2. Refrigerant flow from the air cooled modular chiller unit shall be controlled by means of capacity modulation capable, vapor injected, DC inverter, scroll compressor (SAMSUNG).

E. Compressor:

1. The air cooled modular chiller units shall have the compressor quantity noted in the table below. All compressors shall be modulation capable, direct flash injected, DC inverter, scroll type.

F. General:

1. Crankcase heaters shall be factory mounted on the compressors.

2. The air cooled modular chiller unit compressor shall have variable modulation technology to vary capacity.

3. The air cooled modular chiller unit compressors shall have flash injection technology which can increase the mass flow rate of refrigerant and offset refrigerant condensing temperatures resulting in a capacity and performance improvement in heating and cooling modes. Compressors without vapor injection shall not be present in the air source modular chiller system.

4. The compressors will be equipped with an internal thermal overload.

5. The compressors shall be mounted to avoid the transmission of vibration.

G. Operation Settings

1. The air cooled modular chiller shall have energy saving options (Water Law Control) to reduce system energy consumption.

2. Water Law control shall automatically adjust leaving water temperature based on ambient temperature or room temperature.

a. Room temperature (heating and cooling, two points each), outdoor temperature (heating and cooling, two points each), and leaving water temperature (heating and cooling, two points each) settings shall be configured with the MCM-A00N module controller when using Water Law control.

b. Water Law control shall be enabled or disabled with the MCM-A00N module controller, MIM-B17BUN (BACnet gateway), MIM-D01AUN (DMS2.5), or dry contact control.

c. Water Law based on room temperature requires installation of PT100 temperature sensor (field provided) in the space to monitor room temperature.

3. The air cooled modular chiller shall have 3 operation modes: Standard, Rotation, and Efficiency.

a. Standard Control (default setting): All modules start operating at the same time, and each module operates in the operation pattern which set in the installation service mode.

b. Rotation Control: Water outlet temperature is controlled according to the water outlet temperature average value of all operating units in a module

or a field supplied external water temperature sensor. The module with the highest priority starts operating first, and if the module reaches full load, a module with the following priority will start operating. When the module with the lowest priority operates at the minimum capacity and the water outlet temperature reaches close to the set temperature, the compressors of the module stop.

c. Efficiency Control: Water outlet temperature is controlled according to the water outlet temperature average value of all operating units in a module

or a field supplied external water temperature sensor. Only one unit with the highest priority operates, and if the unit operates with the optimum efficiency, a unit with the following priority will operate. When all units

reach efficient operating condition, each unit operates at capacity between efficient operating condition and the maximum capacity condition.

H. Water System:

1. The circulating water must meet the VRF manufacturer’s specification and recommendations.

I. Electrical:

1. The air cooled modular chiller unit electrical power shall be 208/230 volts, 3 phase, 60 hertz or 460 Volts, 3 phase, 60 hertz.

2. The 208/230 VAC air cooled modular chiller unit shall be capable of satisfactory operation within voltage limits of 187-228 volts (208V/60Hz) or 207-253V (230V/60Hz).

3. The air cooled modular chiller unit shall be controlled by integral microprocessors.

4. The control circuit between the air cooled modular chiller units, module controllers, and central controllers shall be 0.5VDC - 7VDC and completed using stranded, annealed copper conductor, two-core, 16 AWG, shielded cable.

Part 4 – Controls

4.1 OVERVIEW

A. General:

The DVM Controls Network Solution shall be capable of supporting remote controllers, schedule timers, system controllers, centralized controllers, an integrated web based interface, graphical user workstation, and system integration to Building Management Systems via BACnet® and LonWorks®.

B. Electrical Characteristic’s:

1. General:

The DVM S Controls Solution shall operate at 12V DC. Controller power and communications shall be via a common communications bus.

C. Wiring:

1. Module controller wiring (COM2, F3/F4) to modular controller MCM-A00N shall be run from each air cooled chiller unit terminal block (maximum 16 units) to the controller associated with the air cooled modular chiller controller. This cable shall be 16 AWG X 2, shielded cable.

2. Control wiring for system controllers and centralized controllers (upper level) shall be installed in a daisy chain configuration from air cooled modular chiller unit to air cooled modular chiller unit (R1/R2), to system controllers.

D. Wiring type:

1. Group controller wiring (COM 2, F3/F4) and central control wiring (R1/R2) shall be 2-conductor, 16 AWG X 2, shielded cable.

2. Network wiring shall be CAT-5e with RJ-45 connection.

4.2 DVM CONTROL NETWORK SOLUTION

A. General:

The SAMSUNG DVM S NASA Control Network Solution consists of remote controllers, system controllers, centralized controllers, and/or integrated web based interface communicating over a high-speed communication bus. The SAMSUNG DVM S NASA Control Network Solution shall support operation monitoring, scheduling, error monitor, power distribution, personal browsers, tenant billing, online maintenance support, and integration with Building Management Systems (BMS) using either LonWorks® or BACnet® interfaces.

4.3 INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM – DATA MANAGEMENT SERVER 2.5 (MIM- D01AUN)

A. Function:

1. Easy control and monitoring through web browser (optimized for Internet Explorer). Individual/Group control of up to 256 indoor units including SAMSUNG ERV, air handlers, DVM Chiller, and DVM Chiller FCU Kits.

2. The Data Management Server shall have basic operation controls which can be applied to an individual indoor unit, a group of indoor units (up to 256 indoor units), or all indoor units (collective batch operation). This basic controls for the MIM- D01AUN shall include on/off, operation mode selection (auto, cool, heat, dry, and fan), temperature setting, fan speed setting, airflow

direction setting, error email notification, temperature limitations, operation mode limitation, and online maintenance.

3. The Data Management Server shall support system error notification via email. The Data Management Server emailed errors shall include: error occurrence time, error code with description of error, effected equipment address, and current error status.

4. The Data Management Server shall support: system configuration, 1-day/daily/weekly scheduling, monitoring of operation status, online maintenance tool, operation superseding of the remote controllers, editable user defined control logic, and malfunction monitoring.

5. The Data Management Server shall allow maximum current setting control of each air cooled modular chiller unit and DVM S Series VRF systems (AM****X*A***AA only).

6. Schedule control function through web browser. Up to 256 schedule settings, weekly and daily schedule setting, wireless/wired remote controller restriction setting. Digital Outputs can be incorporated into scheduling.

7. The Server shall allow configuration of unoccupied room settings for indoor units configured for unoccupied room control.

8. Convenient digital display allows for easy set up.

9. SD memory card slot for data storage and software updating.

10.Available programmable logic to control the system based on preset monitor points. Specify various system control point inputs (indoor units, outdoor units, DI, DO) and operators (=, >, <, ≤, ≥, ≠) to manipulate system operation (indoor units, outdoor units, DI, DO) based on the status of the specified variables.

11. Optional "weighted averaging" or "representative" setting for heat pump systems to provide optimal auto changeover while in Auto mode.

12. Web server function with remote control (with a public IP address) via internet connection. No management software required – PC-independent management through web browser.

13.10 DI (Digital Input) ports available. Two digital input ports shall be for emergency shutdown with external contact control interface and 8 for other monitoring options (OPEN/CLOSE status). Full indoor unit control with simple contact input (Emergency/Lock). Digital inputs can be incorporated into control logics.

The MIM-F00N Fan Coil Unit Control Kit shall be a communication and control interface kit for third party fan coil units (FCU). MIM-F10N FCU interface module must also be used.

B. Electrical

1. The Fan Coil Unit (FCU) Control Kit electrical power shall be 208/230 volts, single phase, 60 hertz.

2. The Fan Coil Unit (FCU) Control Kit shall be capable of satisfactory operation within voltage limits of 187-228 volts (208V/60Hz) or 207-253 volts (230V/60Hz).

3. The control circuit between the Fan Coil Unit (FCU) Control Kit and MIM-F10N FCU Interface Module shall be 0.5VDC - 7VDC completed using stranded, annealed copper conductor, two-core, 16 AWG, shielded cable to provide total integration of the system

4. The Fan Coil Unit (FCU) Control Kit shall have 208/230 volt, 60 hertz, 1 Amp max outputs for AC fan, and water valves.

5. The Fan Coil Unit (FCU) Control Kit shall allow connection of multiple fan coil units for group control.

6. The Fan Coil Unit (FCU) Control Kit shall have a wireless signal receiver built in to allow option setting and programming with Samsung wireless remote controller MR-EH00U

The unit will turn off when the indoor temperature reaches back to the desired temperature. This process is repeated for 12 hours, in which the outing mode is then shut off.
