By default, you’ll be creating a new folder called “Google Drive” on your computer where files will be sync’ed between your personal computer and Google’s servers.

(That means anything you create, modify, or delete will be backed up to an off-site location.)

It’s like backing up to your H:\ drive or an external hard drive, but you don’t have to think about it!

You can later MOVE folders you already have on your computer (your AP Biology Documents folder, for example) to this new folder. You have a total of 15 gigabytes in Google Drive, which gives you quite a bit of storage!

You can also install the Google Drive application on another computer; the files you save on your school computer will synchronize with your internet-connected home computer, giving you access to your files in more places.

You can access Google Drive from any internet-connected computer, as well… meaning you can download/upload files no matter what device you’re using!

Some suggestions:

- Don’t back up ALL the files you’ve ever created for teaching! (Although you might be able to!)- Maximum file size = 10 GB (gigabytes)- Consider backing up courses you currently teach, since they’re the most important.- You can still move all your files to this folder… you can then selectively choose files to sync within this location

(the Google Drive folder), only backing up the “essentials”…

Note: If you have a LOT of data to back up, consider waiting to synchronize until you’re at home… the impact on the server can be considerable! (It may take a few sessions to synchronize all your files… consider letting it run overnight at home!)

Other features of Google Drive:

- Mobile access through apps! (iOS and Android)- Compatible with Windows and Mac
