Dear Families,It truly was a wonderful celebration for our Founders Day last Sunday and a mighty fine farewell and thanks for Fr Mark. A great show of welcome to our new Parish Priest Fr Dispin John and to our school year. Thank you to all who came along and celebrated with us.

Parish NewsThis Sunday we have our first Family Parish Mass - 9:45am at St John’s!!!! It would be great to see every family gather to celebrate our faith! All children are invited to sit with and join the choir to ‘raise the roof’ with singing!!

Feb FeastTickets for this event are also available at the St James School Office.

Education in Faith…From Carmel Foster (REC) How important is it to say,

‘Thanks’? On Sunday, we gathered to give thanks for the gift of Fr Mark,

founding members of our Parish – especially Margaret and Frank Cronin,

along with Pat Bowen. It was a celebration of their generosity,

delivering a message of pure gratitude to them and Thanks to our God for sending them our way. They have taught us about possibilities- What is

possible when we reach out to others and live your belief of Loving One Another…

We reap the fruits of their labours, but importantly learn about contributing back…

God Of The Journey God of our past and of our present,

God of our future, we know that we do not travel alone, for you are with us and within us.

Be compassionate with us all the days of our lives. Direct our steps along the path of goodness and growth.

Be gentle with us through the seasons and the years. Give us power to serve others in compassion, gentleness and love.

May we live with grateful hearts and learn from each otherMay we always ‘Look after One Another’

Amen. Thanks too Fr Dispin, for the blessings on our New

School Year!

Ministerial Order 870. As a result, there are new requirements around those who volunteer in child related work.

It was great to see so many parents gather last Monday week to learn more about what volunteering will look like at St James and have an opportunity to ask questions. Remember – it’s all about having a safe environment for our children.

It’s very important to us that you know we want everyone to be involved in our community, so please don’t be discouraged by going through this process. Even if you haven’t volunteered before, or have not been involved with child-related activities, please work with us. First job for everyone is to have their current Working With Children Check card on you (Please ensure a copy is given to the office). If you do not have one, apply for one now, so you can seize any opportunity in the future to be involved. Parents who are a registered teacher, will need their VIT registration card. (Please ensure a copy is given to the office.

Tomorrow you will receive via the eldest child a ‘Volunteer Pack’ per family. As well as a cover letter, the pack with have an application for NEW and EXISTING Volunteers. It will also have a list of the types of volunteer activities and a Volunteer Duty Statement, which needs to be signed. These forms are also on our website.

PLEASE COMPLETE AND SIGN ALL FORMS AND RETURN TO SCHOOL BY next week. (Wednesday 1 March)

Andrew or a delegate will be in contact with New volunteers after we receive your completed forms. Please be patient. Thanks!

School Photos - TOMORROWPlease remember it is PHOTO DAY tomorrow. Whilst there will PE classes for Preps, 1’s and 2’s and 5O we ask that the students wear their summer uniform and bring their runners to change into. Remember – polished

shoes and hair tied up if needed. Year Six Captains will meet on the senior adventure playground at 8.30am.

Grade 5 & 6 Camp Information Night – for Parents Next Monday evening we will present some information about our Year 6 and Year 5 respective camps. This will take place in the Community Centre at 7:30pm. Grade 6 students from St James and St Johns travel to Lake Nillachootie and Grade 5 students travel to Sovereign Hill.

DON’T FORGET: Prep children

and their parents will gather tomorrow, Thursday at 4:45pm or 7:00pm for a workshop with Helen Carboon, ‘Children and God Things’

Please Note: EXISTING volunteers with a current WWCC are still able to volunteer now, but please get forms back in.

INFORMATION SESSIONS

How Children Learn to Read and Write

At St James in the junior classes (Prep-2) we have some parents helping us in the Literacy block. In order to be able to do this you need to have done the three Literacy Information sessions that are offered in the first term.

These sessions will help you to understand the way children begin to learn to read and write and the progression we would expect to see as children develop their literacy skills. These sessions are informative and allow for discussion. The sessions will also introduce you to the type of assistance you may be required to give, in the classroom, during the Literacy Block, in line with

IT NEWS:

1. PARENT EMAIL ADDRESSES: Google forms have been closed off. If you did not provide your child’s classroom teacher with an email address, you will now have to email teachers directly or risk missing out on vital classroom information. Teacher email addresses are the first letter of their first name, followed by their full surname. e.g. Wendy Ephgrave… [email protected] Tim Flintoff… [email protected]

2. ACCESS TO THE STUDENT LANDING PAGE: Students can access our student landing page by going to Google Chrome, signing in with their school email address and password (please see class teachers if your child cannot remember their password) and typing in https://sites.google.com/site/stjamesvermontst/ It’s a good idea to bookmark this page because there are heaps of great links.

We are improving our digital technology, cyber safety and student welfare practices, because we care about our students and we want them to care for each other. That is why we have a brand new user agreement and we focus on using digital technology respectfully and responsibly. Over the next week or two, Year 5s and 6s will be invited to join the student eSmart committee and will help promote our eSmart journey; stay tuned!
