ประโยคนดคลายๆ ประโยคคำาถาม แตความจรงแลวไมไดเปนประโยคคำาถาม หากแตเปนประโยคขอรองอย�งสภ�พ วาจะขดของในการกระทำาอยางใดอยางหนงหรอไม

การตอบประโยคขอรองอยางสภาพ ถาเราไมรงเกยจทจะทำาอยางทเขาขอรองจะตอบวา Yes ไมได จะตองตอบในทางปฏเสธเสมอ เพราะถาตอบ Yes จะกลายเปนวา เรารงเกยจเขา ดงนน ควรตอบดงน

Question Mark หรอเครองหมาย ? จะเอาไวใชจบประโยคทเราตองการเขยน เพอใหรวาประโยค นเปนประโยคคำาถาม แทนตำาแหนงของ Full Stop

เชน

Do you really want to go there? (เธอตองการไปทนนจรงๆหรอ)

ในขณะท Exclamation Mark หรอเครองหมาย ! ใชในประโยคทไมเปนทางการมาก เพอเนน การแสดงอารมณทรนแรงมากกวาปกตในประโยค

3. Commas

Comma หรอ เครองหมาย , เอาไวใชในการแบงวลหรอคำา เพอใหอานงายขน เชน

I love singing, dancing, and playing guitar. (ฉนชอบรองเพลง เตน และเลนกตาร)

หรอใชในการคนอนประโยค (clauses) เชน

If you were me, you would be upset too. (ถาเธอเปนฉน เธอกตองกลมเหมอนกนแหละ)

นอกจากน ยงใชเวลาเขยน non-defining relative clause ทบอกถงขอมลเพมเตมทไมสำาคญ เชน

The accident, which happened 5 minutes ago, was caused by that reckless driver. (อบตเหต ทเกดขนเมอหานาททแลว เกดขนเพราะคนขบรถคนนนขบรถอยางประมาท)

4. Colons

Colon หรอเครองหมาย : มไวเพอขยายความของประโยคทเขยนกอนหนา

เชน

I know why I failed this test: lack of preparation. (ฉนรวาทำาไมฉนถงสอบตก เพราะไมไดเตรยมตวมากพอ)

นอกจากน ยงใชในการแสดงเวลากได เชน

The train leaves at 6:30 a.m. (รถไฟออกตอน หกโมงครงในตอนเชา)

เปนตน

5. Apostrophes

Apostrophe หรอ เครองหมาย ’ ใชเวลาลดรปกรยาชวยในภาษาองกฤษ

เชน

did not เปน didn’t

เชน I didn’t mean to make you mad. หรอ

I will เปน I’ll

เชน I’ll handle this for you.

นอกจากน ยงใชเครองหมาย ’ ในการแสดงความเปนเจาของโดยการใส ’s

เขาไป เชน

We will hang out at John’s place. (เราจะไปนงเลนทบานของจอหน) หรอถาม s เปนตวสะกดอยแลว กใสแค ’

เชน The princess’ dress looks so gorgeous. (ชดของเจาหญงสวยมากเลย)

6. Semicolons

นบเปนอนทคนไมยอมใชกนทสด เพราะหลายคนไมรจะใชยงไง หนาทของ

Semicolons หรอ ; คอ การเชอมสองประโยคทมความเกยวของกนมากๆเขาดวยกน แทนทจะใช Full Stop กใชตว นแทน เชน

I don’t want to go back home now; the traffic is so bad. (ฉนไมอยากกลบบาน ตอนนเลย เพราะรถมนตดเกนไป)

หรอใชแทน Comma ในการเชอมวลทซบซอนเขาดวยกนเพราะในวลนนม

Comma อยแลวเพอ ปองกนความสบสน เชน

7. Hyphens และ Dashes

สองตวนหนาตาคลายกน โดย Hyphens จะใชเวลาเชอมคำาสองคำาเขาดวยกน เพอใหเกดความ หมายใหม เชน time-consuming ซงเราสามารถตรวจสอบไดในพจนานกรมวาคำาใดบางทตองม Hyphen คน

ในขณะท Dash จะใชเวลาทเราตองการแยกคำา วล ออกมาจากประโยค เพอใหสวน นนโดดเดนยงขน โดยตองเวนวรรคหนาหลง dash ดวย เชน

She ignores all remarks - good or bad ones - which makes her seem like a self-righteous person. (เธอไมสนใจขอคด เหนใดๆเลย ไมวาจะดหรอไมด และนนมนทำาใหเธอดเปนคนมนใจวาตวเองถกอยคนเดยว)

8. Quotation Marks

Quotation marks หรอเครองหมายคำาพด ซงมทงแบบ เดยว‘ ’ หรอแบบ ค“ ” ในประเทศองกฤษใชทงสองแบบ ในขณะทในอเมรกานยมใชแบบค แต

ทงสองแบบสามารถปรากฏตวรวมกนได เชน

9. Brackets และ Parentheses

แปลเปนภาษาไทยกคอ วงเลบ นนเอง ความแตกตางกคอ Brackets คอเครองหมาย [...] แบบ เหลยม ในขณะท Parentheses คอวงเลบ (...) แบบทเราคนเคย เราใชวงเลบเพอเพมเตมขอมล เขาไปในประโยค ทไมไดมความสำาคญมากนก และใชในการเขยนทไมเปนทางการ เชน
