John Biggs ConSort presented the first cultural ~ program of the year wbeo they' appeared in concert at Brown Auditorium OD Oct. 28. Mem· hers of the g r o u p included Claire Gordon, soprano; Salli Terri, alto; William Lyon Lee. tenor; and John Biggs. bass.
Probably one of the most interesting things about this group is the UDUSUal instruments they ll9e. Their instnDneD1s inc~ the portative organ, harpsichord. luumhorns, recorders, viola da gamba, hancl bells and various percussion Instruments. ·
'Ibe combination of these unique instruments. foUr well·trained voices, and exquisite scyle proviOed the audielce with both vocal and instrumental music. 'Ibe music was both sacred and secular, early and contemporary.
Part one of the program was deroted to Monteverdi and bis contemporaries. These Included pieces from England, S pa i'n, the Netherlands, Italy, and Ger· many.
