2014 – Lead Researcher, Lead researcher on an EPRI research project using administrative data on students held by 14 post-secondary education institutions from a number of different regions linked to tax data held at Statistics Canada in order to track students' post-schooling lab our market outcomes.

2014 – Expert Member, Expert member of the Conference Board of Canada's Centre for Skills and Post-Secondary Education Data and Metrics Reference Group.

2013 – Member, Member of Statistics Canada's National Advisory Committee on Postsecondary Education Statistics.

2012 – Teaching Evaluator, Teaching Evaluator for the Peer Review Teaching process provided for by the collective agreement between the Union of Professors of the University of Ottawa and the University of Ottawa.

2012 – Member, Member of the Panel of Experts for the OECD ESP (Education and Social Progress) (International) Project on non-cognitive skills.

2012 – 2013 Co-organiser, Co-organiser in collaboration with senior officials of Industry Canada and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada a one day "Workshop on ICT Skill Shortages" held at the University of Ottawa in March, 2013. The workshop brought together academics, policy makers, employer associations, and representatives of the PSE sector to discuss the issue from a variety of perspectives. Represented a first step towards more extensive, longer-term research collaborations in which EPRI has participated. Principal Investigator (PI) of the SSHRC Connections Grant that helped fund the workshop. Follow-up activities include publishing sets of papers based on the workshop in i) a special issue of Canadian Public Policy, and ii) a special issue of the Institute for Research on Public Policy's Policy Options.

2012 – 2012 Member, Member of a panel of advisors for the Globe and Mail series "Transforming the Ivory Tower: The Case for a new Post-Secondary Education System (part of their "Our Time to Lead" series aimed at addressing major challenges facing Canada.

2012 – 2012 Member, Member of a 4-person panel of experts charged with undertaking an evaluation of New Zealand's post-secondary education quality assurance system through NZQA (New Zealand quality Assurance). Involved a one week on-site visit and the preparation of an evaluation report

2011 – Principal Organiser, Principal organiser of the EPRI-ESDC Education Policy Research Seminar Series (http://www.socialsciences.uottawa.ca/irpe-epri/eng/events.asp). This seminar series brings in leading academics to speak on topics that are policy relevant, and is targeted on attracting policy makers as well as those from the academic community.

2011 – 2011 Co-organiser, Co-organiser with a senior Federal Government policy maker a one-day "Workshop on Behavioural Economics" held at the University of Ottawa. The workshop involved approximately 30 participants: one-third academics, the others senior policy makers. Papers were presented by the academics who were matched with policy makers to ensure that the papers had a true policy focus. Notable participants included Nobel Laureate George Akerlof and David Laibson of Harvard University.

2011 – 2014 Principal Investigator, Principal Investigator (PI) of a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant awarded to EPRI in April 2011 (value $200,000) lasting through 2013 (extended to 2114). The EPRI Partnership originally included EPRI itself, the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), Statistics Canada, the University of Ottawa's Institutional Research Office, and Algonquin College. The EPRI partnership has since expanded to include over 25 institutional partners, and almost 30 researchers.

2010 – Lead Researcher, Lead researcher on a University of Ottawa project using administrative data on students held by the university to better understand and ultimately improve student retention and other

student outcomes. This model has since been extended to other PSE institutions in Canada and may soon expand to the international level. Also lead researcher in a related project involving collaboration with Algonquin College to study the success of students who transfer between the two institutions, this project also seen as a test for other such studies, including those at the system-wide level.

2010 – Director, Director of the Education Policy Research Initiative (EPRI) a national level research organisation based in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa. EPRI's mission (continuing from the MESA Project - see below) is to directly engage in and otherwise facilitate academic quality research focused on education policy issues through the collaboration of researchers, policy makers, and data providers, and to disseminate the findings of this research beyond traditional academic channels. EPRI is also the core institution of the SSHRC-funded EPRI Partnership (see elsewhere on this CV).

2010 – 2013 Member, Member of the Executive Board of the Ottawa Economics Association, University of Ottawa Liaison.

2008 – Co-organiser, Co-organiser of special sessions (3-4 each year) at the Canadian Economic Association Annual Meetings for first MESA and now EPRI. One goal of these sessions has been to actively involve policy makers and other non-academics, reflecting a key aspect of EPRI's mandate.

2008 – Initiator and Organiser, Initiator and organiser of the "Policy Lunch" seminar-discussion series in the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Ottawa. This series brings together 6 to 8 times a year a select group (by invitation only) of senior policy makers (focused at the Assistant Deputy Minister level) and academics interested in open discussions of policy-related ideas. (The Chatham House rule applies.)

2008 – 2008 Co-author, One of three co-authors of the "Economists Letter on the Environment", which took advantage of the federal election in progress to inform the general public on the core economic principles related to climate change and related policy options. The letter gathered more than 250 signatures among Canadian university economists.

2006 – Research Fellow, Research Fellow of the C. D. Howe Institute.2006 – Member, Member of the Canadian Labour Market and Skills Researcher Network (CLSRN).2005 – 2009 Principal Investigator and Research Director, One of three principal investigators (with Arthur

Sweetman and Alex Usher) and Research Director of the MESA (Measuring the Effectiveness of Student Assistance) Project, a 4-year $5 million research undertaking financed by the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation. MESA was roughly similar in objectives, structure and activities to the EPRI Project (see above) which succeeded MESA.

1993 – Visiting Fellow, Visiting Fellow at Statistics Canada.1992 – 1994 Consultant, Acted as consultant for the Federal Department of Justice's Federal-Provincial-Territorial

Committee charged with developing child support guidelines (child support payment system) for Canada. Independently published work on the topic in journal articles and a book as well as op-ed pieces on the topic (see publications and media activities). Proposed guidelines generally adopted and put into law.

1991 – 1992 Research Consultant, Provided input to the Economic Council of Canada's Changing Faces of Poverty publication, focusing on the change in incomes at divorce. This work represented a first major piece using the Longitudinal Administrative Database (LAD), which has been a major focus of subsequent research activities.
