History This half term we will spend some time looking at the Aztecs and their relationship with chocolate. This links in well with our history of chocolate and its origins. The work this term will incorporate Geography as we identify the different countries cacao seeds are grown in, where chocolate is popular and how it is used. CHOCOLATE MAGIC, HEAVENLY GLORY Music Music with Mrs Woods will continue on a Tuesday morning with a concert for all on Tuesday 13 th December at 6:30pm. Rehearsals for the carol singing events at Leighton Hall and Coffee stop begin this half term, along with Young Voices rehearsals. Computing opportunities Computing will be used throughout the curriculum, for research, PowerPoint presentation and creation of word documents- word processing Art & Design PSHE British Values week Monday 14 th to Friday 18 th November Literacy and Books This half term, the class will spend some time looking at films and play scripts focusing on the contrasting images and dialogue of Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory and Charlie and the Chocolate factory. We will be working with the text ‘Maggie and the Chocolate War’; based on real events it tells the story of Maggie and her friends who demonstrate democracy against the manufactures of a popular chocolate bar during 1947. As we move towards Christmas we will look at Mathematics Following on from the fantastic Maths covered last half term we will be doing daily problem solving and reasoning using growing Mathematical skills. Times tables continues to be an important part of our lessons alongside the four basic calculation processes. There will be decimal work, measures and shape and Mrs Brown will be working with small focused Science – Materials Chocolate is a wonderful basis for lots of scientific investigations, changing state will be our focus with some baking, melting, freezing and predicting activities, it will be a deliciously fun Religious Education The Christian Value for this half term is TRUST. It is the turn of Year 5 to lead the school community in worship towards the end of the term. The Christmas Carol service at St John’s Church will be on Tuesday 20 th December. ‘Hands on learning Experiences’ Tuesday 22 nd November- Zootropolis at Kendal, Brewery Cinema Thursday 29 th November- Cocoa Bean in Hawkeshead Forest schools –Thursday 1 st & 8 th Dec This term we will be designing and making Aztec masks.

Chocolate is a wonderful basis for lots of scientific investigations, changing state will be our focus with some baking, melting, freezing and predicting activities, it will be a deliciously fun topic to cover. Religious Education
