2. PRINCIPAL JOB PURPOSE

As part of the Community and Information Services team the post holder will develop, support and maintain the College’s Library Services.

The post holder will contribute to the College planning process, and will seek to ensure that the library services delivered by Glasgow Kelvin College are up-to-date and of high quality and meet the needs of the College’s learners, communities, staff and wider stakeholders.

3. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

assist students to access appropriate learning resources;

provide customer care support to learners as needed;

assist in providing a comprehensive, quality administrative service for library and flexible learning services and in the on-going development of a customer-focused environment;

provide general administrative and clerical support to the library and flexible learning service including reception and booking services, student enrolments, registration and management information;

act as the first point of contact for potential and existing flexible learning students, arranging initial appointments with appropriate flexible learning tutors;

provide a reception and booking service for the libraries and Flexible Learning Unit as appropriate;

provide support for the deployment of digital learning materials and other documents in repositories and virtual learning environment platforms

ensure that students sign in correctly using the appropriate register where appropriate;

issue and retrieve student evaluation forms as required;

operate a booking system for access to library and flexible learning resources;

post information and announcements for students and staff as appropriate;

maintain stock levels in relation to learning materials and course information;

assist in the development and implementation of new procedures to ensure the effective operation of the flexible learning service;

work within the requirements of the Data Protection Act, Computer Misuse Act and other legislation related to the use of information technology;

undertake appropriate professional development to meet any needs which may subsequently be identified by the College’s career development review process; and

General

Keep abreast of current developments which may be relevant to College activity and future direction;

promote and encourage Equality & Diversity in all aspects of College operations;

respect the confidentiality of matters relating to learners and staff;

understand and comply with the requirements of the regulatory framework for colleges in particular the Data Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act;

ensure the Health and Safety of staff and students in all aspects of College activity by exercising a duty of care for personal health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions; and

carry out any other duty commensurate with the post as required by the Head of Community and Information Services.

4. COMMUNICATIONS (Internal & External)

The Library and Flexible Learning Officer will communicate regularly using a variety of methods with learners and staff.

The post-holder has key internal working relationships with staff at all levels, but specifically the College’s Librarian, Senior Information and Digital Library Officer and Head of Community and Information Services

5. ASSIGNMENT AND REVIEW OF WORK

The Library and Flexible Learning Officer will have the opportunity of suggesting objectives and responsibilities for this role, within broad parameters set by the Head of Community and Information Services and will be accountable for delivery of these objectives.

6. Essential KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Qualifications: Educated to HNC level in a relevant area; and Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.

Demonstrable Knowledge of: Information Services; Library Services; or Flexible learning services

Skills and Competencies: Ability to maintain effective relationships with learners and staff; Ability to initiate and support innovation and promote change; Ability to deliver effective and responsive information and flexible learning support services;

Experience: Experience of

o Developing innovative services;o Working with a range of education/lifelong learning services; ando Partnership working.

7. WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Physical: The post will involve office-based work, which will involve the use of a PC but will also

involve the post-holder supporting learners in flexible learning centres and library settings; Keyboard skills for data entry; Moving between delivery locations Operation of a wide range of office machinery/equipment, including: Will be required to move between all the College campuses;

Working environment: Partly office based but will require to work around all of the main campuses and will be

required to travel where this is required to meet College objectives.
