Mathematics

In mathematics we will be developing our number fluency through: : recognising place value in a four-digit number, comparing and rounding numbers, counting forwards and backwards in multiples of a given number, identifying Roman numerals, developing our understanding of fractions and decimals and regular practice of multiplication and division facts.In geometry and measures we will be developing our skills in: classifying geometric shapes, identifying acute and obtuse angles, recognising symmetry and plotting coordinates on a 2D grid.

In mathematics we will be developing our number fluency through: mental calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), using formal written methods to add, subtract and multiply where appropriate, solving problems and regular practice of multiplication and division facts. We will further develop our understanding of place value and estimating/approximating.In geometry and measures we will be developing our skills in: presenting data using graphs and solving problems using information presented in graphs.

In mathematics we will be developing our number fluency through: further developing our understanding of fractions and decimals and solving problems related to fractions, measure and money. We will continue to practise multiplication and division facts. We will further develop our skills with mental and written calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).In geometry and measures we will be developing our skills in: estimating and measuring time, length, perimeter, area, weight, capacity and converting between different units of measure (e.g. km to m).

Science We will be covering the following areas to develop our scientific skills in Physical Processes-Physics: Electricity: Identifying common appliances that run on electricity; constructing a simple electrical circuit, identifying and naming its basic parts, including cells, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzers; recognising some common conductors and insulators.

We will be covering the following areas to develop our scientific skills in Physical Processes-Physics: Sound: Identifying how sounds are made; recognising that vibrations from sounds travel through a medium to the ear; recognising that sounds get fainter as the distance from the sound source increases.We will be covering the following areas to develop our scientific skills in Materials-Chemistry: States of Matter: Comparing and grouping materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases; observing that some materials change state when they are heated or cooled.
