The first six draws of 2017 have taken place and twenty four lucky participants have now received their winners’ cheque.

New honorary treasurer
As Dermot stepped down at the AGM in April his successor Haley O’Brien is now the treasurer. Haley has been a committee member since 2016 and is a qualified accountant and used to work with Dermot.

Christmas Lunch
I know this is seems ages away and it doesn’t feel quite right saying the word Christmas, but please put the date of Saturday 9th December 2017 for the annual Christmas lunch at St Brelade’s Bay Hotel in your diaries.
Fundraising Events
Bingo night was held at St Brelades Parish hall in February and over 40 people attended and nearly £600 was raised! Thank you to everyone that came, donated money or raffle prizes it is much appreciated.
Pub collecting by Lyn and Haley in town on Friday 9 June raised over £300! This really is a good way to raise money and being able to speak to people with our branded clothing and merchandise really creates awareness of the condition.
Muay Thai White Collar Boxing in association with Blood Fitness is holding an event on Saturday 17 June. There are 6 fighters who have never stepped in the ring before but have undergone an intense 10 week training plan and are solely doing the challenge in order to raise money for MS. So far they have raised over £300
Manchester City Supporters Club presented the committee with a cheque for £1,000 which the club raised during the 2016/17 football season. This is truly fantastic!
Upcoming events
If you shop at Waitrose or are passing please look out for the Community Matters forms at the side of the token boxes. If you could pick one up and fill it in nominating us then hopefully we will be considered.
Marathon on Sunday 1 October; our new treasurer, Haley, will be running the Jersey Marathon for MS! Haley says “when my friend was diagnosed with MS I had not really heard about the condition. This inspired me to join the committee and to try and help. I am hoping my personal challenge will not only raise money for the MS Society but also awareness of the condition.” There is a link to donate on the website or on Just Giving search for Haley O’Brien.
Pub collecting will be happening again on Friday 6 October. We obtain permission from various establishments to enter with our buckets.
Quiz night is confirmed for Friday 20 October at the Post Horn pub. We will provide details nearer the time and any raffle prize donations will be welcome.
Anniversary Celebration Event
To celebrate over 50 years a registered charity and that our charity number is 007, we will be holding a black-tie event at the Royal Yacht Hotel on Saturday 10 March 2018.We are finalising a few more details and will advise our members on purchasing tickets in the coming months.
Exercise Classes
Please do not forget the free exercise class held at Cheshire Homes every Tuesday at 11.30, come along, it’s a good chance to socialise as well we keep fit.
Complementary Therapies
Don’t forget that members can claim towards their complementary therapies. Forms available online.
Part of the committees aim is to raise awareness. So please do like our Facebook page – Multiple Sclerosis Society of Jersey - we will be posting news of our fund raisers and need as many people as possible to hear about this page.
