Many tourists visit New York every year. There are many things to see and do in New York.

There are many tall buildings in New York. The tallest scyscraper is 541 meters tall. More than 100 buildings in New York are 180 meters tall or more.

This building is very famous. It is the Empire State Building. It is in Manhattan. Manhattan is a part of New York. The Empire State Building is from 1931. It was the tallest building in the world until 1972. There are 6500 windows in the buildings. If you walk to the top, you have to walk 1860 steps! But

there are 79 elevators in the building, so you don’t have to walk. Many tourists visit the Empire State building.

And it is easy to get around. It is easy to take the subway all around the city.

I also loce the parks in New York. I often visit a park together with my friends. Sometimes we bring food. We eat and talk and relax.

The 11th of September 2001 was a terrible day in New York and in the USA.

At 8.46 a plane chrashed into the World Trade Center, North tower. At 9.03 another plane crashed into the South tower. About one hour later the buildings collapsed. Three more planes chashed in other places in the USA. More than 3000 people were killed.

Why did this happen? Who did it?

It was a terrorist attack. The terrorist group Al Qaeda did it. This group says that the USA do many wrong things. Al Qaeda say they are at war with the USA.

Today you can visit the museum at Ground Zero, the place where the twin towers were. You can learn about 9/11 (nine eleven). You can see the names of all the people that were killed. You can learn what happened.

ELLIS ISLAND.

From 1800 to 1920 very many people

moved to the USA. They were

immigrants. An immigrant is a person

who moves into a country. Many

people came to the USA from Europe.

People came from different

countries, for example Poland, Italy, Ireland, Sweden and Norway. More than

800.000 Norwegians left Norway and moved to the USA. Many people moved

to the USA because they were poor. They hoped to get a job in the USA, they

hoped to get a better life.

York City. Very many immigrants, more

than 12 million, came to Ellis Island from

between 1890 and 1950. There was a

big immigrant office at Ellis Island. The

immigrants had to answer many questions, for example: Do you have enough

money to live in the USA? There were also doctors who

examined the immigrants. If they were sick, they had to go

back.

Some immigrants had to go back, and some were allowed to

stay in the United States.

Some immigrants stayed in New York. Some immigrants

moved to other places. Some people got land and built a

farm.
