You should consider taking a challenge exam if you:

• missed your diploma or course final exam.

• were ill, late or distracted on the day you wrote the diploma or final exam.

• recently completed a prep or review and have a better understanding of the course content.

• are close to achieving your competitive entrance mark for post-secondary admission.

• require a quick turnaround for an updated transcript for application.

* Some institutions may not accept high school equivalency courses for admission to certain programs. Review the admission requirements of the program to which you plan to apply.

Funding

When you’re a student, money mattersFiguring out how you will pay for your education is one of your most important decisions once you’ve decided to pursue your education further.

Whether you have existing financial resources (from income, family, investments, lines of credit, or sponsorship, for example) or you want to access other financial aid resources that may be available (listed below), we can assist you in sorting through all the options and which ones you may be eligible to receive.

• Government Student Loans – Available to students in full-time post-secondary programs.

• Scholarships, Bursaries, and Awards – Available to new and continuing students in all or specific programs, these may be based on financial need, academic achievement, leadership, community service, and contribution to campus life. Be sure to check these out on our website (linked directly to each program or view all at norquest.ca/awards) because many go unused simply because no one applies.

• Grant Funding – Alberta Works Income Support is available to students who meet specific eligibility criteria and designed to assist people with financial need to complete training goals. Some grant funding also includes living expenses. Please see our website or visit our Financial Aid Office for more information on eligibility and how to apply.

• Aboriginal Student Funding – Qualified Aboriginal students may be eligible for additional grants or loans. Other sources of funding may be available through your band education counsellor or Aboriginal funding agencies. Aboriginal student funding can include grants, loans, Band, Bill C-31, and Métis.

• Emergency Funding – We realize that emergencies can happen to anyone in any situation. Depending on your circumstances, our Student Aid and Awards Officer may be able to help you with a short-term loan. The College provides loans to registered students on an emergency basis once per term if needed. Emergency loans are repayable to the Student Emergency Loan Fund.

More details for each option are available on our website.
