Jacob Beaulieu is our graduating skater this year. He is 17 years old, and the son of Steve and Cathy Beaulieu and brother to Chelsea. Jacob is a grade 12 student at Avon View High school.

Jacob started skating at the Riverview Skating Club at the age of 10 and later became a PA sharing with Canskaters his love of skating. He has very much enjoyed this aspect of his skating, volunteering since his early years. Jacob stepped away from skating for a couple of years but is back, currently working on his Jr Bronze dances, free skate and skills.This year, Jacob has been working part time with Windsor rec. Other hobbies Jacob enjoys are; swimming, water sports, reading, PS3 (Call of Duty!). Jacob has a real love for water activities; especially snorkeling. Jacob is a member of the Bluefins Summer Swim Team. He works hard improving his strokes. His favorite is the back stroke. At Provincials this year, he placed 6th in his 100M Back (1:18.18) and his 400M Free (5:51.53). Jacob is a member of the 356 Wolf Cadet corps in Mount Uniacke where he is currently a Petty Officer 2nd class. He is a member of their band and plays the snair drum. He recently received his Level 3 for marksmanship.Jacob’s future plans consist of attending Kingstec and studying Business Administration with an Accounting focus. Jacob has a great sense of humour, enjoys making the younger kids laugh, works hard and is a fine young man. We wish Jacob every success in his future!

SCENE 1 1920s to the 1950s1.Roaring 20’s: Charleston Elizabeth ``Libby` Partridge

Elizabeth Partridge is the 12 year old daughter of Brian and Suzanne Partridge of MacKay Section. This is Libby’s 10th year with the Riverview Skating Club. She began in the Kidskate program at the age of 3. Libby is currently in the Junior Starskate Program working on her Preliminary freeskate, skills and Jr. Bronze dances. She is a grade 6 student at Brooklyn District Elementary School. Besides being a member of the Riverview Skating Club, Libby is also a member of the Newport 4-H Club where she is enrolled in the Dairy Calf, Goat, Rabbit and Sewing projects and holds the position of Club Reporter. She also enjoys downhill skiing, pulling tug-of war with the 4-H team, participating with the 4-H Woodsmen Team, reading and crafting. She is also a member of the Brooklyn District Elementary School Band where she plays the flute.

SCENE 2 1960S3.Supremes: You Can’t Hurry Love

Our Grad Skater, Jacob Beaulieu with Sharlie Pinksen & Briana SextonSharlie Pinksen is the 10 year old daughter of Steve and Sharla. Sharlie is in Grade 5. Sharlie has been skating since age 3. Sharlie started skating in Clarenville NL and continued skating here in 2008. Sharlie has done well competing this year: She got silver in her solo, silver in spin event and gold in team event at St. Margaret’s Bay Open, She got silver in her solo at Robert McCall, and Provincials. Sharlie has passed 3 dance tests, her skills and Preliminary freeskate this year and is now working on the American and Keats. Sharlie competed with the Eclipse Juvenile Synchro team in PEI winning silver. Sharlie helps out as a PA with Can Skate and her other interests are snowboarding, piano, singing and dancing. But most of all Sharlie loves to skate.

Briana is 10 years old and the daughter of Brian and Diana. She is working on her Preliminary freeskate, Junior Bronze skills and Junior Silver dances. Briana enjoys being a member of Riverview Eclipse Juvenile synchronized skating team. She is also a dedicated Program Assistant helping with both Preschool and Canskate. Besides skating, Briana other interests include basketball with Shooting Stars, tennis piano, baking, reading and swimming with the Windsor Bluefins swim team.

8. Beatles: Here Comes the Sun Francesca CornettaFrancesca Cornetta is 16 years old and the daughter of Jamie Cornetta and Hubert Junker of Summerville. Francesca is working on her Senior Bronze Freeskate, and her Junior Silver Skills and Dances. When she is not skating, Francesca enjoys horseback riding, playing piano, and reading. Francesca also has a job at a local horse stable.

Hannah Milsom is 13 years old and the daughter of Laura Milsom and Ross Simon of Upper Rawdon. Hannah is a Riverview StarSkater working on her dances and skills. She is a member of the Riverview Eclipse Juvenile Synchronized Skating team and enjoys helping out as one of the Canskate program assistant's. Outside of skating Hannah is a student at Hants North Rural High and enjoys track and field, swimming, hanging out with friends, and reading.

Maia Pothier is 9 years old. She is the oldest daughter of Charmaine and Philip Pothier of Falmouth. This is Maia's second year in the Starskate program. At this time she has completed her Preliminary Dances and is working on her Preliminary Freeskate, and Skills and on her Jr. Bronze Dances. Maia is also a member of the Riverview Juvenile Synchro Team and enjoys helping the preschoolers and canskaters as a Program Assistant. When Maia is not skating, she enjoys reading, playing the piano and taking Ballet and Jazz classes.

11. K.C. and the Sunshine Band: Shake Your Bootie

Alison is the daughter of Carol Dill and Danny Dill of Windsor.  She is twelve years old Alison and joined Riverview in 2006, when she was 6 years old.  Her first few days she was shy and timid...my how things have changed!!  Alison passed all her stages in Canskate in just a few months, then moved to the Junior Development Program and then to the Star skate Program.  She is now a Senior Skater working on her Sr Bronze skills and her Jr silver dances. Alison has been part of the Synchro skating program since it began 5 years ago. She loves being on the team and has developed great friendships from it. Alison is a very dedicated PA and well liked by our Canskaters. She is coached by Talia Pay - another lover of cows :).

Mia loves to be busy and active, keeping her parents Al Simm and Krista Lunn on the go! When she isn’t at the rink she can usually be found enjoying one of her other favourite sports or activities. Snowboarding is one of her other favourite sports, and she began competing in Snowboarding this season. Mia is currently the 2014 Provincial Snowboard Champion for Parallel Giant Slalom in her age category. She was invited to be a part of Snowboard Nova Scotia’s development team, ProGirls this year and has enjoyed the training that goes along with that. She also competed in

Snowboard Cross as a member of the West Hants Middle School team in the Intermediate division (under 16), and was third in Provincials earlier this month. In the summer, Mia loves playing soccer with Alison and she also keeps busy with 4-H where she is a member of the Hants County Tug-of-War team. Mia was proud to be selected by Riverview Skating Club as the StarSkater of the year for 2013 and also achieved Riverview’s 2013 Test Achievement award. She is currently working on her Senior Bronze freeskate, Junior Silver dances, Senior Bronze skills, and Bronze Interpretive tests. Mia has also been a part of Riverview’s synchronized skating program since 2009. Ice Show is a highlight of the season for Mia as she loves to perform for an audience. She hopes you enjoy the show!

12. Sister Sledge: We Are Family All StarSkatersStarskate is the program that Canskaters can enter upon completion of the Canskater levels. Riverview offers Junior Development for Canskaters in Stages 4 and up to allow motivated skaters to make this transition more quickly through group lessons with our four professional coaches. Once in Starskate, skaters will take tests with Skate Canada to challenge their skating skills, and may enter competitions.

14. ABBA : Mamma Mia Chelsea Beaulieu, Chloe Harvie, Allison PowerChelsea 13 yrs old and the daughter of Cathy and Steve Beaulieu of Ardoise. She is working on her preliminary skills, Jr bronze free skate, and Sr bronze dances. Chelsea is usually on the ice helping PA the Canskate students. She enjoys making friends with our younger skaters, helping them realize that skating is a lot of fun. She enjoys being a part of the Riverview Eclipse Juvenile synchronized skating team and is planning to compete at the Valley Open hosted here at Riverview. She passed her Intro Interpretive test but continues to work on her Interpretive; Pippi Longstocking!!! Chelsea is a gr.8 student at Uniacke District School where she is a member of the running club, preparing for the Bluenose Marathon in May 2014. Chelsea loves to skate in the winter & in the summer she swims with the Windsor Bluefins. Her favourite stroke is the distance free (400M) beating her best time of 6:46.79, that's 16 laps for 1 race!!! For the first time, Chelsea swam a 100M Fly (1:50.21 placing 14th place) at Provincials. Chelsea also tried paddling last summer at the Pisiquid Canoe Club, preferring K2 (2 person kayak). In her spare time Chelsea enjoys annoying her brother, Jacob, listening to music, facebook, shopping (she loves her shoes!!) and reading. Chelsea is a delightful young lady with a great sense of humour who always works hard.

Chloe is 11 years old and the daughter of Greg and Jennifer Harvie of Rawdon Goldmines. Chloe is currently working on her Preliminary Freeskate, Senior bronze dance and Jr bronze skills. Chloe also enjoys dance, piano, and volleyball. She also plays keyboard in her school band.

Allison is the 14 yr old daughter of Dawn and Jim Power of Windsor, working on her Preliminary Skills, Freeskate and her Sr Bronze Dances. She started skating at Riverview at the age of 3 and has been part of our synchro skating program since it started, competing in PEI in Jan on the Juvenile Synchro Team. Allison’s other interests are 4H, horseback riding, soccer, tennis, snowboarding and skiing. Last year she received the citizenship award for her gr.7 class, passing with honours. Allison went to her first horse show and received 1st place in showmanship. She also received the Grand Champion award for Woodworking in Hants County for 4H in 2013. Allison volunteers at Dykeland Lodge bringing much joy to the seniors.

17. Madonna: Into the Groove Megan Leopold, Amber Lloyd Megan is 10 yrs old and the daughter of Dan and Tanya Leopold of Union Corner. This is Megan's first full year in Starskate and she is working on her Preliminary Freeskate, Dances and Skills. Megan competed her freeskate solo for the first time at the SMB Open in fall earning a Bronze. She travelled to PEI in January for her first synchro competition where the team brought home silver. Megan competed in the Nova Scotia Starskate Championships on March 1 & 2nd in Kentville in Star 1, Team Event and with her Riverview Eclipse synchro team. Megan regularly volunteers as a Program Assistants with our Learn to Skate Program and is thrilled to be part of the Jr Starskate program. Megan is in grade 5 at Brooklyn District Elementary and also enjoys Girl Guides, swimming and crafts.

Amber Lloyd is the 11 year old daughter of Pauline Benjamin of Mantua and Eric Lloyd of Edmonton. Amber has been skating with Riverview for 8 years where she is a junior skater. Amber also enjoys 4H and has been a member of the Burlington Workers 4H club for 8 years now. Her 4H projects include rabbit, poultry, sheep, scrapbooking, and beef. Amber attends Brooklyn Elementary School where she is a grade 5 student.

18. Cyndi Lauper: Girl’s Just Wanna Have Fun

Jessica Lloyd Jessica is the 12 year old daughter of Pauline Benjamin of Mantua and Eric Lloyd of Edmonton. Jessica is an Intermediate skater with the Riverview Skating Club where she has been a member for 9 years now. When not on the ice skating at the Newport Arena Jessica enjoys her friends from West Hants Middle School where she is a Grade 8 student. Jessica also enjoys 4H and her many projects include beef, cake decorating, sheep & market lamb, and waterfowl. Jessica has also been a member with the Burlington workers Club for 8 years.

Rebecca of Falmouth.  Nicole is an honors grade 9 French Immersion student at West Hants Middle School where she is a PASTE mentor and played on the B volleyball team this past fall. Through PASTE, she was able to attend the WE Day celebration in Halifax. She also plays the flute in the school band as well as the concert band.  Nicole is an intermediate skater and is working on finishing her Preliminary freeskate, dances and skills. She is a member of our Riverview Eclipse Juvenile Team.  Nicole really enjoys being a PA for the Kidskate and Canskate programs at Riverview. Nicole's other interests include reading, writing, and watching movies. She attends Youth Group at the local church and helps out with Vacation Bible School as well in the summer. In the future, she would like to travel and participate in mission trips.

Bishop Lake & Georgia Richardson Bishop Lake is 13 years old and the son of Troy and Sarah Lake of Lakelands. Bishop is currently working on his Preliminary Freeskate, Dances, and Skills. Bishop is also a member of the Riverview Eclipse Beginner synchro team where he likes to keep everyone laughing. Bishop travelled to PEI to compete with his team and hopes to go again next season on the Juvenile team. Bishop is a Grade 8 student at Uniacke District School where he has competed with the wrestling team. Bishop is a member of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps in the wolf division and he is a leading seaman working towards a promotion to Master Seaman. Bishop’s other interests include playing piano, softball and video games. Bishop is coached by Danielle Pettipas-Munroe and Jessica Lake-Crossley.

Georgia Richardson is the daughter of Greg Richardson and Monica Sweetapple of the town of Brooklyn. Georgia attends Grade 3 at Brooklyn Elementary School. This is Georgia's first year as a Starskater and she is looking forward to her first Dance tests and Competitions in the Spring. Georgia has been in Preschool Skating and Canskate since she was 4 and joined the synchronized skating team when she was 6. She really enjoys performing both in Skating and Ballet. Much of her spare time is spent on crafts and drawing. Just this year she has been putting her skating skills to use in another sport... Hockey. The puck part is going to take a little time but she loves Hockey as much as she loves Starskating.

Jennifer Harvie has been a coach with Riverview Skating Club for 13 years and is currently our program coach for Preschool and Edge. In addition to working two jobs, Jennifer is also the busy mom of two busy children! As a skater, Jennifer has her full Junior Bronze Free Skate Test, Senior Bronze Dance Test, Bronze Artistic Test, and Skating Skills Class 7. Jennifer also currently skates with Scotian Waves, an adult synchronized skating team training out of SMB. Jennifer will be travelling to Germany with the team for ISU Adult International Competition in May. Jennifer

OUR COACHES__CONTINUED.....loves coming to the rink to share the fun of skating and provide skaters with a learning experience that will last them a lifetime.

Jessica Lake-Crossley has been a coach with Riverview Skating Club for 3 years and is currently a program coach for Synchronized Skating and Theatre. Jessica is a student at Acadia University taking a double major in Community Development and Environmental and Sustainability Studies. As a skater Jessica has her Gold Skills, Gold Dances, Gold Interpretive, Pre-Novice Competitive Dance, Jr Bronze Partner Dances, Sr Bronze Freeskate Elements, and Jr Bronze Program. Jessica is a 3 time national competitor, once in biathlon dance, twice in Synchronized Skating. She has trained for Canada Games in ice dance and currently skates with the Acadia Axe-Elles synchronized skating team. Jessica loves coming to the rink to guide the skaters in discovering their own path and in experiencing the thrill of achieving their goals.

Talia Pay has been a coach with Riverview Skating Club for the past 5 years and currently is our program coach for Canskate and PowerStroking. She recently graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Elementary Education and is a substitute teacher in the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board and a private tutor. As a skater Talia has her Gold Free Skate, Gold Skills, Novice Competitive and Sr Silver dances. Talia loves coming to the rink to work with amazing skaters. She always comes and leaves with a smile on her face.

Danielle Pettipas-Munroe has been a coach with Riverview Skating Club for 3 year and is currently a program coach for Synchronized Skating and Theatre. Danielle will be graduating this year from NSCC’s Tourism Management Program and will start a co-op at Liscombe Lodge. As a skater Danielle has her Gold Dance, Gold Interpretive, Senior Silver Skills, Sr Bronze Freeskate Elements and Jr Bronze Program. Danielle skates with the Acadia Axe-Elles and competed with the team at Nationals last year. Danielle loves coming to rink to share her spirit, smiles and help the skaters realize the wonderful opportunities in the world of skating.
