PTA Mission Statement: The overall purpose of PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. PTA is a powerful voice for all children, a relevant

resource for families and communities & a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child. PTAs serve as a type of forum where parents, teachers,

administrators, and other concerned adults discuss ways to promote quality education, strive to expand the arts, encourage community involvement, and

work for a healthy environment and safe neighborhoods.

In an effort to ensure the Oquenock PTA is working within the values & beliefs of the PTA & toward achieving a standard of excellence for our children, we need to honor our core values of commitment, collaboration, accountability, inclusivity, integrity and respect during all meetings, when using social media, and/or PTA

functions and events.

Please understand that the following guidelines are intended to promote the PTA values. With that in mind, we ask that you follow this code of conduct at all

times.

1. Every PTA member has the right to comment or express their concern over any issue. In accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order, any/all members that would like to express their concerns/viewpoint are asked to do so after the person has finished speaking.

2. There will be no yelling, shouting, disrespectful, or inappropriate comments by any PTA member. If at any time the executive committee feels that the conversation is going in this direction, the individual/s will be asked to excuse themselves from the meeting/event & will be able to return when they can comply with the code of conduct.

3. Regardless of your beliefs, or whether or not you agree with a statement and/or point of view, all PTA members will behave in a respectful manner during all PTA meetings & functions.

4. Only agenda items will be discussed during PTA meetings. If you have PTA related issue that you would like to speak about & it is not on the agenda, please submit it to Sam Coppola via email prior to the meeting ([email protected]) or at the beginning of the meeting & we will make every effort to address your issue at the end of the meeting (time permitting).

5. PTA meetings are for PTA issues only. If you are unsure if your issue is PTA related, please do not hesitate to ask. If it is not PTA related, we can discuss it after the meeting & direct you to the proper person to get the answers and/or resolution you are seeking.

6. Items of concern and/or questions for Mr. Maniscalco pertaining to non-PTA business will also be held until after the meeting has been adjourned. If possible, he will speak with you at the conclusion of the meeting, but please understand that an appointment to speak with him at a later time may need to be scheduled.

7. Committee chairpersons reporting will be limited to no more than 2 minutes. During this time, please provide a brief summary of your committee’s progress.
