Most Cities like Savannah are laidout and planned to be a walkablecity. But overtime this sense of scale

changes and cities are challengedwith issues arising from thatchange. City of Savannah has notunscathed this issue, The originalplan of General Oglethorpewas centered on human beingand its capabilities. As the citygrew and technology broughtmass movers and ultimately theindividual transport, the scalechanged from human scale to amore industrial scale. While thisscale is more convenient and is

a commendable and impressiveform of transportation, it is notthe most efcient and available.

Through mapping Savannah, Ithas been identied that in order

for the city to move towardsa better, efcient, and more

sustainable future, it need tocreate a balance between humanand industrial scale. The citymust provide truly public spacesthat are geared toward thegeneral population and serveseveryone, not just the one witheconomic, or social capabilities.

Right: The design for the TrumanRapid Transit and Health trail ofthe Chatham Area Rapid Transit

Services is depicted here. Witha better public transport systemcomes improvements in activitylevel and health of the immediateneighborhoods. These circularzones indicate the radius at whichresidents, tourists, and citizenscan walk and or bike to the closestCARTS Station. The blue circle hasa one mile radius. While beingwalkable, it is considered to bea unit to represent the bikabilitydistance. The larger green circlehas a radius of half miles. This is avery easily walkable distance. Thisdistance can be walked fast and is

considered, by the designer, to beconvenient distance for walking. The third and smaller green circle

indicates a quarter mile radius. It isthere to identity the walk-ability ofthe area for parents with children, elderly and demographic thatcan or don’t prefer to walk to far.

Below: the drawings indicatethe interaction of TRTHT withexisting intersections. In orderto reduce cost and keep, thesystem intends to use as muchof the existing infrastructure asit can. The example bellow is anidea on how this can be achieved.

The focus of the Truman Linear Parkand RBT Plan is to create a hallwaylike connection from the South

Side to downtown that allows formore thatn a direct communte. Itis important to celebrate what isbeing passed and the communityin between dowtown and oneshome. This plan grants thatallowing for growth economicallyby small business around thepark and increasing healthy andsafe pedestrian traf fic. What ismore this new plan is projectedto increase Savannah’s walkability

by nearly double. Not onlydoes the park make Savannah’scitizens healthy but the city itself

by reducing automotive traveland congestion, increasing bikeuse with permeabel paving. The park bestows upon the citymore foilage . At the Henry andAnderson hub a great deal canhappen.
