Thisyearmarksthe10thanniversaryofAeUestablishment. AeU was instituted in 2007undertheauspicesoftheAsianCooperationDialogue (ACD), a body to promote Asiancooperation.AeUwasestablishedinAsiaasaflexibleopendistancelearninginternationaluniversity.ItwasestablishedasaninitiativeofMalaysia,aprimemover ine-educationandissupportedby34ACDMemberCountries.
AeU has always been proud that as aninstitution,ithasbeenabletoprovideworkingadults a platform to enhance and upgradetheiracademicachievements,thusprovidingthem an opportunity to advance in theircareerpath.
Our goal is to both challenge and supportstudents as they develop the knowledgeandskillsthatwillnotonlyenrichtheir lives,butalsoprepare them toenrich the livesofothers.

OnbehalfoftheAsiaCooperationDialogue(ACD), I wish to extend our heartiestcongratulationstoallgraduatesonthisgreatachievementinyourlife.Congratulationsalsoto AeU for its success in creating anothermilestone in the University’s long list ofachievements.
This year marks the 10th year of theestablishmentofAeU,whichisasuccessfulinitiative of Malaysia as a co-prime moverof the Education and Human ResourceDevelopment Pillar, one of the six ACDprioritypillarsofco-operation.AeUwasfirstproposed at the 4th Ministerial Meeting inIslamabad in 2005, to ensure provision ofeasilyaccessibleandexpandededucationalopportunities for theAsian people. The aimwastobeaninstrumentforgreaterAsia-wideco-operationinclosingthedigitaldivideandspearheading e-education efforts to meetfuture challenges. The e-education wasendorsed in theDohaDeclaration, adoptedin 2006 at the 5th Ministerial Meeting inDoha. The successful implementation oftheAsiaeUniversity underACD’sumbrellais a significant start for human capacitybuilding and in increasing access to higher
education to enhance people’s potentialsin ACD Member States. AeU grants theAsian community the opportunity to accessa professional educational institution andpursue lifelong learning. Its objectivesto develop appropriate technologies tostrengthenstudents’criticalthinking,creativeabilities,andcommunicationskillsarecrucialtoACD’seffortsinbuildingthefutureofAsia.
ItismygreathonourtowitnessthestrengthofAsiatodayatthisceremony.Iwholeheartedlybelieve that AeU programmes can propelgraduates to unexpected heights andcontributetothedevelopmentandprosperityofAsia.Needlesstosay,thesuccessachievedsofarwouldnothavebeenpossiblewithoutthe unwavering support of some importantpeople, notably theChairmanandBoardofDirectors,thePresidentandtheManagementofAeU.Mysinceregratitude to them forallthesupportandguidanceprovidedinhelpingtomakethevisionareality.

Todayisaspecialday.Itisadayofcelebrationoftheculminationofyearsofstudy.Ihopeitwill be anoccasion that youwill rememberfondlyfortherestofyourlives.
It is also an important day for the parents,spouses,familyandfriendsofthegraduates.Theachievementofadegree isone that isseldomaccomplishedwithoutthesupportofthose nearest to us. Today is a celebrationwhichyouareverymuchapartoftoo.
This year’s graduation is very significant asAeU celebrates its 10th anniversary of itsestablishment. AeU was setup in 2007 tofulfill an aspiration of the AsiaCooperationDialogue(ACD)countriestodevelopqualityhuman capital for the region, by providingflexible and affordable higher education. IampleasedtoreportthattheUniversityhasprogressedextremelywellwiththepassageof time inachieving theobjectivesset.Thisis evident by the increasing number ofgraduatesproduced fromvariousacademicprogrammesofferedbytheUniversity.TodaytheUniversity is recognised both nationallyand internationally as a great private
university dedicated to lifelong learning.AeUhasnowbecomeauniversityofchoicefor working adults wishing to pursue theirtertiaryeducation.

Convocation ParaphernaliaThe university convocation represents the highlight of
the university year. It is a celebrated event when the university publicly recognises and rewards the achievements of the students. The yearly
university ceremony is conducted with full university tradition and rituals. Among the paraphernalia displayed are: the mace, the chair and the various
regalia of the different designations and degrees conferred.

THEUNIVERSITYMACE
The ceremonial mace, carried at the head ofthe procession, symbolises both the statusand standing of AeU as an institution vestedwith thehonourand responsibilityof impartingknowledge to its students. The mace bearsvarious intricate represention reflecting part ofthehistory,valuesandroleoftheUniversity.
Themace ismadeof silver andchromedwithgoldthatsymbolisestheUniversity’sgoverningauthorityandisusedonlyatofficialceremonieswhere the Head is present to signify theseriousness and depth of the ceremony. Thismacehasfivemainrepresentations.
Theglobeattheheadofthemaceisreflectiveof the global outreach of the university in allrespects in the nature of the knowledge itimparts,thepersonnelitemploysaswellasthestudentsitwelcomes.
Below the globe, the pentagon that holdsit, stands for the University’s five key valueswhich are Agile, Best, Collaborative, Daringand Experiential. The ascending steps belowthepentagonmirror theadventurouspath thatstudents have to traverse in their pursuit ofsuccess.Thewidercircumferenceasthestepsascendindicatesthathighergoalsarenoteasyto achieve but as one soldiers on, both theknowledgeandrewardsgrow.
Against a backdrop of a modern motive,the longest part of the mace is embellishedwith seven parts and seven stripes to reflectthe university’s seven e’s of learning namelyempowered,enhanced,exploratory,expanding,effective,electronicandexperientiallearning.

THEUNIVERSITYCHAIR
The stature and distinction placed on the chair isparalleled with the seat of honour of the highestrankingofficialoftheUniversityduringtheconvocationceremony.
At its head is the logo of AeU crafted in silver. Thecolourof thechair iscombinedwiththeredcolourofAeUlogo,addingtoitsimpressivestatus.Thechairismade ofCengalwood, a species of hardwood fromMalaysia.Theintricatecarvingsonthechairaresimilartothemotifsonthemace.
Thesamemotifthatisthecentralfocusofthedesignonthemaceisrepeatedonthechair.Thecentraltriangularshapewiththefocusatthepeaksymbolisesthehighestpoint as the goal. Themodernmotif depicted by thenon-linearshapesymbolisesuniversalconcepts.Finallythecandle like shapesymbolises thebasic aimof aneducational institution which is to enlighten studentsandguidethemwithknowledge.

THEACADEMIAREGALIA
Academicgownsorrobeshavebeenamajorpartoftheformal attire atConvocation ceremonies. It has a longcolourfulhistoryoriginatedfromtheMiddleAges.Whilemaintaining a certain degree of tradition; convocationrobes may incorporate specific details defined by theUniversity. It holds a status and defines the wearerbased on his or her standing amongst the officials ofthe university or the class and fraternity of the degreereceived.
At AeU, the ensemble consists of a gown with aseparatehoodwhich follows thecolourof theSchool,and a bonnet or amortarboardwhich represents lightappearingaroundadistinguishedperson.

ChairmanThe robe is of maroon damaskdetailed with black songketand 3 inch gold lapel braids infront. Theedgeof the shouldersis embellished with hand-embroidered gold work whiletwogoldornamentsedgedwithagoldbraidadornthesleeves.
Board of GovernorsThe robes are of maroon softfabric with peach and yellowstripes at the front lapels andsleeves.
PresidentThisisofblackdamaskdressed-up with maroon songket and 3inch gold lapel braids in front.Embellished again with hand-embroidered gold work on theshoulders, this gown is alsoadorned with gold ornamentsaround the sleeves with goldbraidedging.
University SenateThey are identified by their darkpurple robes and light pink softfabricwith yellow edging on thefrontlapel.

• DoctorofPhilosophy• DoctorofBusinessAdministrationRecipients of this prestigious degree are identified bytheirblueandredrobeswithredfabriconthesleeves.The arms opening at the middle of the sleeves bearsthreebluestripes.
Thecolourof thehood ispurplewithwhite lining. It iscomplementedwithabonnetofblackvelvetwithagoldtassel.
Bachelor’sTherobesoftheBachelor’sdegreerecipientsaremadeofsoftfabricswhichrepresentthecorporatecoloursofAeU.Thegownsareinbluewhilethesleevesareredincolour.The mortarboard for the Bachelor’s attire is of blackflannel wool with a black tassel. What differentiateseachSchoolisthecolourofthehood.
Master’sMaster’sgraduatesareclassifiedbytheirbluerobeswithsoftfabricinred.Thesleevesarealsoredincolourwithtwobluestripes.Theirmortarboard is of black flannelwoolwith a blacktassel.

Thesis title:
DevelopmentandEvaluationofanElectronicPrototypeforPedagogicalSkillsEnhancementofEducatorsinMalaysianHigherLearningInstitutions.
Brief Citation:
This study had developed an electronic prototype solutionas an alternative to classroom-based forms of professionaldevelopment.Thestudyhadalsoevaluateduseracceptanceoftheproposedelectronicprototypeandusermotivationfortransferring learning to theworkplace. The findings indicatethat the educators’ age, gender and teaching experienceshad no influence over their performance expectancy, effortexpectancy, and self-efficacy. The study recommended thatelectronictrainingcanbescalableandsustainablealternativelearningsystemforcontinuousprofessionaldevelopment.

Thefindings of this study show that academics viewed QApractices as positive and the implementation of QA hasled to quality in academic and administrative practicesin higher education. This study investigated the effect of inter-relationshipbetween Customer Relationship Management (CRM),Relationship Quality (RQ) and Customer Lifetime Value(CLV)on theacquisitionofnewcustomersand retentionofexisting customers in the insurance industry. The study hasfound that these inter-relationships have positively affectednewcustomeracquisitionandretentionofexistingcustomers,but with a mixed outcome especially for CLV. The findingsof this study suggest focus is required on the right factorsto enhance customer experience and perception that willtranslateintobetterprofitforthecompany.

During his PhD study, SANATH SUKUMARAN had published seven papers. His works have gained international recognition which led to his appointment as Head of Knoco Malaysia in 2016. Knoco is Europe’s largest Knowledge Management consulting firm based in the UK. He was also the editor-in-chief for Knowledge Management Professional Society based in Houston, USA from 2015-2016.
