Lessons about good design can be gleaned from architect Paul R. Williams (1894-1980). Through his work and gentle manners, he educated clients about good design, which has clearly stood the test of time. He understood and adapted to changing styles, yet always incorporated elegance, proportion, and scale into his works, both traditional and contemporary. It’s incumbent upon us to advocate for the preservation of our architectural heritage. Yes, build new buildings, but design and build them to complement the existing environment.” Eleanor Schrader is an award-winning educator, historian, lecturer, and principal of Schrader-Patrick Historic Design Consultants, which provides consulting services to the building trades, film industry, and realtors.
