    Term Vietnam Veterans of America’s Photo Contest (“Photo Contest”) begins June 15, 2020, and ends July 10, 2020, at 5:00 PM EST. By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the Rules & Submission Guidelines (“Rules”) of the Photo Contest as stated below. Vietnam Veterans of America (“VVA”) reserves the right to change, extend, suspend, or discontinue temporarily or permanently the Photo Contest at any time and for any reason without notice. Who May Enter The Photo Contest is open to photographers of all ages. Photographers under the age of 18 years will be asked to submit a Parental Waiver, should their photos be selected for inclusion in the 2021 VVA Calendar (“Calendar”) or any future edition thereof. VVA will determine entrants’ eligibility in its sole discretion. What to Enter The following images are the kinds of photos VVA is looking for its annual Calendar, which is mailed to more than 100,000 active donors who give $10 or more: 1. Paying Tribute to Veterans: All photo submissions should pay tribute to veterans. Photos do not need to include people. Examples of photos as used in previous Calendars can be found at the end of the Rules. Preference will be given to photos which feature the following:

    • Representations of veteran experiences and/or military service • Celebration or recognition of the service and sacrifice of veterans • VVA Chapter or State Council initiatives, programs, or services • Veterans belonging to multiple war eras • Veterans belonging to multiple demographics • Clear indication of a VVA Chapter’s or State Council’s presence

    2. The Call of Duty during COVID-19: This year, we are especially interested in seeing how our dedicated Members and Supporters have answered the call of duty during the COVID-19 pandemic. Examples include (but are not limited to):

    • Support or outreach to veterans in the community • Donations of protective personal equipment (PPE) or meals to healthcare workers • Donation drives of food, personal care items to affected communities • Creating or distributing face masks to affected communities • Fundraisers or donation drives for organizations in need • Helping on the frontlines of response efforts

    3. Photo Requirements: Submissions must meet the below criteria in order to be printed in the Calendar.

    • Digital format (.JPG or .JPEG files, max size 8 MB) • High-resolution, 300 DPI or higher • Original photos

    The following cannot be printed in the Calendar.

    • Digital photos of hardcopy/physical photographs • Scans of hardcopy/physical photographs (unless using a high-resolution scanner)

    4. Photo Submission: All entries must include photographer credit, VVA Chapter or State Council, city, state, zip code, entrant’s first and last name, email address, phone number, and mailing address. VVA will require a Model Release from finalists in the Photo Contest if their photos depict an identifiable person will need to obtain a Model Release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian. In the case of a deceased person, a Model Release will need to be obtained from the subject’s family. If a Model Release is not provided for those photos, they will not be allowed to appear in the Calendar. A Model Release form for VVA can be found here. Photos that violate or infringe upon another person's rights, including but not limited to copyright, are not eligible. How to Enter Please submit photographs and requested information online through the following link: https://vva.org/calendar-photo-contest/. There is no limit to the number of photos that a single entrant may submit. Photographs must be submitted in .JPG or .JPEG format, with a file size no larger than 8 MB. You must complete a separate submission form for each photo entered into the Photo Contest. We will not accept photographs submitted through the mail or email. Entries will not be accepted unless submitted via the official Photo Contest channel. Only original, digital photographs will be accepted and should be taken at the highest resolution possible to be used in both print and digital channels. VVA will collect a photograph’s metadata upon entry. This includes administrative, descriptive, and rights data embedded in the image file.

    Entrants retain rights to their photographs; however, by entering the contest, entrants grant VVA (and those authorized by the VVA) a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to publicly display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or later developed, for any VVA purpose, including, but not limited to: advertising and promotion inside its printed calendar, on its website, exhibition, and commercial products, including but not limited to any other marketing or fundraising activities. By submitting a photo, entrants may also assign the rights to VVA and take full responsibility as a result. Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit as feasible. VVA will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval regarding such uses. Entry Deadline All entries must be received by 5:00 PM EST on July 10, 2020. Final Photo Selections Entrants will be notified by July 31, 2020 if their photo is selected for the Calendar. Please do not contact VVA about the status of entries or judging. Conditions of Entry All entrants hold VVA and its respective directors, officers, employees, interns, and volunteers (the “Indemnified Parties”) harmless from and against all claims of any nature arising in connection with entrant’s participation in the contest. The Indemnified Parties are not liable for any costs, damages, injuries, or other claims incurred as a result of entrants’ participation in the contest. The Indemnified Parties are not responsible for incomplete or misdirected entries, technical or network malfunctions or failures, or causes beyond their control. Entrants are solely responsible for their entries. Entrants may not submit materials that introduce any software viruses, worms or other programs designed to damage software, hardware or telecommunications equipment or are off-topic, partisan-political, contain advertising, nudity, personal attacks or expletives, or is otherwise abusive, threatening, unlawful, harassing, discriminatory, libelous, obscene, false, sexually explicit, or that infringes on the rights of any third party. The Photo Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. VVA reserves the right to cancel the Photo Contest or modify these rules at its discretion. VVA reserves the right to disqualify any entrant whose entry or conduct appears in any way to: inhibit the enjoyment of others; tamper with the competition; violate these rules or other applicable law or regulation; infringe on the rights of third parties; or act in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Decisions of VVA are final and binding.
