“Land of a million elephants”, Laos is one of the countries the least touched by modern civilisation in Southeast Asia.
With few transport infrastructures, the country’s main communication artery is the Mekong – a large part of the population lives along the river and its tributaries.
Among the major sites, there are the northern mountains, Luang Prabang, the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers, Vientiane, Champasak and the 4000 islands.
