1. Situation of raising black tiger shrimp in Vietnam (cont)1.4. Some issues of shrimp farming sector facing
Increasing epidemic diseases- White spot disease caused by WSSV- Yellow head disease caused by GAV- Monodon baculovirus disease
Decreasing quality of surface water - Bio-pollution- Chemical pollution
Frighten safe food - Residue of toxic chemicals and antibiotics- Appearance of pathogenous micro-organisms
a. Activities of NGOsNatureland: organic aquaculture certificationGlobal Aquaculture Alliance (GAA): Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Certification …These organizations set voluntary standards guiding for sustainable aquaculture. Fees shall be paid for receiving their guidance and certifications. Aquaculture Farms/Areas and products that certified by them are not recognized by the Competent Authorities of Vietnam.
2. Sustainable aquaculture development in Vietnam2.1. Activities of sustainable aquaculture development
b. Improving aquaculture techniqueImplementing effect of probiotic products in maintaining quality of shrimp pond waterUsing additional feeds origined from herbal remedy to prevent and treat some diseasesApplying closed farming techiqueReducing polluted parameters in waste water based on biological treatment (raising aquatic flora, mollusc, fish etc)

- Preventing pathogen spread outside- Ensure economic effect for farmers- Control transmission of pathogen (vertical,
horizontal) and so on
- Do not use or minimize the use of antibiotics- Opposing ecological inequity, erosion and landslide- Do not affect to wild animals and so on
- Do not contain forbidden chemicals and antibiotics- Residue of allowed chemicals and antibiotics in
acceptable limits- Maintain prestige of fishery product and so on
- Using resources reasonably and effectively- High price products- Increase living conditions and spirits for community
of farmers- Ensure equitably social policy for farming
community and so on

Hazard Identification: listing any hazards concerned on food safety, aquatic disease, environment related to the inputs or each stage of aquaculture process
Hazard assessment: process of assessing information relating to hazards and conditions leading to their occurrence in order to identify which are significant hazards that shall be controlled.
Hazard control: use technical methods to control significant hazards to not happen or happen in permitted levels.
All operations implemented based on community association.

b. Results in applying GAqP
- 100% safety productsFood safety4
- Reduce 30-60% of chemicals in environment and waste treatment (rubbish, waste water, mud) - Limited use antibiotic. Do not use forbidden antibiotics- Waste water and solid water have been treated
Environment monitoring3
- 100% fingerlings have been check for pathogen- Pathogen have been controlled, the outbreak can be prevented in time
Control epidemic diseases

b. Results in applying GAqP (cont)
- Farmers know how to apply GAqP- Raising living conditions - Sense of community increased
Social effects5.2
- Decrease costs about 5 – 10% due to reduce FCR, chemicals and antibiotics - Prevent diseases effectively

2.2.5. BMP implementation in shrimp farming (lead by NACA)
a. Shrimp hatcheries Scope: 03 black tiger hatcheries in Khanh Hoa and 03 black tiger hatcheries in Ca MauResults of BMP implementation: - Productivity increasing;- Ensuring quality of postlarvae;- Selling with higher price (30 - 40% higher than other postlarvae on the market).
b. Shrimp aquaculture Scope: 34 communes belong to Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Khanh Hoa and Ca Mau provinces.Results:- Enhancing management capacity for local competent authorities, especially in case of shrimp disease outbreaks;- Disease diagnostic techniques, aquaculture techniques, and shrimp health care have been trained for farmers - Disease Monitoring System has been set up from aquaculture farms to local competent authorities;- Contribution in enhancing competence on aquatic disease management of the country
