• 1. Honeymoon stage – people retire, enjoy activities

• 2. Active stage – “What am I going to do with the rest of my life?” Focus on hobbies/volunteer work.

• 3. Slowing-down stage – Pause and reflect on life, give up activities and find new ones

• 4. Reminiscing stage – look back and assess lives, old memories and stories, observe more and do less, comfort and ease become important
