Auditioning for the following:
• Trumpets (4)
• Trombones (4)
• Saxophones (5) Double on flute/
clarinet/piccolo encouraged
• Tuba/Sousaphone (2) Will play on tuba
and sousaphone
• Horn/Mellophone (2) Will play on French
horn and mellophone
• Percussion (4) Doubles-piano/bass players
(1) Drum set player for one stage set per day;
performer must double on either snare, quad, or
bass drum for the four show/marching sets
(1) Acoustic/Electric Bass player for one stage set per
day; performer must double on percussion or tuba for the
four show/marching sets
(1) Jazz Piano player for one stage set per day; performer
must double on percussion for the four show/marching sets
(1) Auxiliary Percussion
There are no string, theater, singer, or dancer positions.
Program Dates:
Early June through Mid-August 2015
Qualifications:
At least 18 years of age
Currently enrolled in a college or university registered in the US and have completed at least one year by summer
Diverse musical background, excellent musicality and an expressive/outgoing personality
If selected, Disney will provide:
Stipend of approximately $420.00/week
Furnished lodging

Performance Clinic-Based
Paid Summer Program The Disneyland® Resort All-American College Band,
presented by Yamaha and under the direction of Dr.
Ronald McCurdy from the University of Southern Califor-
nia, is a once-in-a-lifetime music, performance and educa-
tional opportunity. Jazz forms the foundation, but all tradi-
tional music styles are used by the band to enhance Park
performances, clinics and stage showcases with special
guest headliners. As a member of this 21-piece, high-
energy, marching/show band, you will perform five days a
week at the Disneyland® Resort for thousands of Disney
Guests AND polish your musical skills in focused rehears-
als and music clinics from experts such as: Wayne
Bergeron, Gregg Field, John Clayton, Jiggs Whigham, Rick
Baptist; just to name a few. You will also complete a major
project that will reflect one of these tracks:
Composition and Arranging
Careers in Music Business
Recording and Production
Each performance day will consist of five sets:
One stage performance in a jazz format
Four in a marching/show band format
Band members perform on Yamaha instruments. Yamaha
will provide pro-line instruments, including doubles; as
needed, for all members of the band for the summer. You
will have the opportunity to purchase this instrument at a
discounted rate at the end of the program.

Jazz Improvisation: (Optional for Tuba & French Horn) 1. Play transcription or Jazz Etude

Suggestions: Billy’s Bounce, Now’s the time, Oleo, There
Will Never Be Another You, Moments Notice (you may use a
play-a-long recording if a “live” rhythm section is not
available). Three choruses of improvisation

Jazz Soloist: (Required for the Jazz Chair)
Any tune from the jazz idiom that will demonstrate your
knowledge and understanding of jazz styles and improvisa-
tion. (i.e. Nica’s Dream, There Will Never Be Another You,
All the Things You Are, rhythm changes and/or Blues in F, Bb
or G). Improvise at least one chorus
Lead Players: (Required) Select an excerpt that will demonstrate your ability to
phrase in a jazz style and play in the upper register. (i.e.
shout chorus to Corner Pocket, April in Paris, etc.)
Saxophone Doubles: Select two excerpts; technical and lyrical; to demonstrate
your ability to perform on clarinet and/or flute.
RHYTHM SECTIONS Piano

1. Classical Etude (i.e. Chopin Sonata, etc.)
2. Jazz Performance
a. Blues, Rhythm Changes
b. Latin (Montuno)
Bass (acoustic/electric) Prepared Selections
1. Classical Acoustic bass etude (arco)
2. Walk bass line on the following progressions/tunes:
Blues in F, Rhythm Changes, All the Things You Are
3. Play the head and improvise on Billie’s Bounce
4. Play a “funk” bass line in the spirit of James Brown
PERCUSSION Drumset
1. Demonstrate the following styles: medium swing, up-
tempo swing. Bossa Nova, Samba, 12/8 Afro Cuban, Ballad
w/brushes and Hip-Hop funk shuffle. Play each style for
approximately 30 seconds.
2. Play and sing the melody of Billie’s Bounce (distribute the
rhythm/melody around the drums, ala Alan Dawson)
Quads 1. Demonstrates the ability to play rhythmic patterns while
marching. Stick acrobatics are welcomed and encouraged
2. Play improvised solo over drum cadence.
3. Drumset performance is optional for quad play-
ers.

Video Submission Information
For 2015 Next year marks the 45th Anniversary of the All-American College band at the Disneyland Resort. We are looking to recruit the
most talented and energetic musicians across the nation to join our 2015 Band! At this time, we ask that all interested collegiate
musicians submit a YouTube video for review—submissions will be accepted August 15, 2014-January 15, 2015. Each video
should be no longer than 15 minutes in length and obtain your name, school you are currently attending, classification, and all
contact information. Please sent your information and a link to your video to [email protected]. After your video sub-
mission has been reviewed, you will either receive an invite to our upcoming auditions or a message with notes and advice for
next year. Please understand that we would love to keep everyone; however, we can only build one band and fully encourage
those that do not make it through this year to work hard and try again next year. We are looking for 3 main things in these videos:
1) high degree of musicianship; 2) versatility and 3) personality. Please prepare the following for your video:
