    PROJECT BRIEF

    Talent scouts from Red Carpet Screenings Film Festival are seeking new talent at the

    Creative Media Video Competition. You have been hired by them to create a Music Video toshowcase your skills and capture their attention at an end-of-year Creative Media Film Festival.

    You will individually create an Initial Proposal before joining a Group in which you willdemonstrate Group communication to decide on the best idea.

    You are then expected to create a Blog and undertake Pre-production tasks to create thenecessary Documentation for yourPitch in which you will present the best concept to the class.

    After a successful Pitch your group will move onto the Production in which your will create yourvideo following the specified guidelines. Once you have shot your footage you will demonstrate

    Post-production techniques in editing your video to near professional standards before exportingit onto a DVD and uploading it toYouTube.

    You will then Review your work on a DVD Directors Commentary before presenting yourfinished product at a Screening of your work. You are then expected to provide an Evaluationalong with a Portfolio showing how your group created your Video production.

    The most impressive Music Video and the one that achieves the most hits on YouTube will berecommended and sent directly to Seb Hall at Red Carpet Screenings for his consideration.

    TASK 6.DOCUMENTATION (U5/P1)

    Your group needs to prepare the following

    Documentation for Pre-Production.

    You each need to create at least three examples from the following list ofDocumentation e.g. written/ audio or video reports, completed pro forma,rough ideas, written notes, drafts, sketches, research notes and any otherappropriate pre-production documentation (TIP: Google Docs is highlyrecommended)

    Treatment: this is the development of your idea allowing you to planthe production.

    Production schedule: a plan of what will happen and when for all

    stages of production.

    Shooting script: a detailed version of the outline script. This includesall words spoken in the film and directions for positions andmovements of actors.

    Storyboard: A visualisation of the film. Includes images of how eachshot will look and information about timings, camera angles anddialogue. Show how visual and sound elements work together. Makingsight visits and taking shots of locations with different camera anglescan help you prepare better for the production stage.

    Location : reconnaissance record (recce), permission for location,accessibility etc.

    Health & Safety Risk assessment: trailing cables, handlingequipment safely, hot lights, working in a safe environment, prolongeduse of VDU screens, working in a sensible way, responding toinstructions.

    Budget: Using professional rates for hire of equipment, props, actors,crew and post-production.

    Production schedule call sheet: when you are ready for productionthis will help organise the shooting of the film.

    Production Diary: Include weekly update of what you have donethroughout the pre-production process and what ideas you feel workedwell, and why ideas and actions were undertaken.

    When the documentation is complete you willpresent idea for your Music Video as a 5-minutePitch to the class. This will be recorded to gainthe evidence required for achievement of thecriteria. You will need to:

    Present and justify the choices you made in your Documentation to theclass

    Each group member needs to be able to present information and ideasorally to the audience

    TASK 9.POST-PRODUCTION (U5/P3)

    On completion of your shoot you need to edit yourMusic Video. This stage is called post-productionand you will need to use editing software to edityour source material.

    The purpose of your initial edit is to reduce the footage time of your sourcematerial to a workable size, by selecting the takes and scenes which describethe narrative most effectively. You then need to refine your edit by re-orderingsequences and experimenting using some or all of the following techniques:

    Edit images, change the sequence and order of the footage Edit the sound by removing sound recorded on location or add Foley

    sound, narration, overdubs such as music or sound effects Use transitions such as fades or dissolves etc. Add Animations or credits Change colour levels or add filters Add special effects or other techniques

    Your final Music Video should be an absoluteminimum ofthree minutes long.
