Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments:

for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment,

with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Obedience means marching right on whether we feel like it or not. Many times

we go against our feelings. Faith is one thing, feeling is another.

Obedience to God is the most infallible evidence of sincere and supreme love to him.

outline

There is always a blessing in following well. Many Bible stories have proven it, and God can

still prove it. It is our responsibility to obey; it is His responsibility to bless those who obey. Our self-ishness and pride would always lead us to have a miserable life, and God does not want it. When we learn to follow His word, sometimes even in situations we do not fully understand, there is always His reward at the end. A decision to be obedient is a decision that is blessed by God.

This past week’s event was a great example of following right. I am so blessed to know that majority of the delegates of our National Baptist Youth Convention 12 decided to do what is right by following what God wants them to do. Seeing 87 young people make a big decision to follow God’s call into fulltime service gives me a great joy. Blessings surely await them if they will continue in their right decision. It was the best ever youth conference we had, not because of the fun-filled activity and fellowship, but because of the powerful preaching of God’s Word. I was also blessed as cha-racter building was emphasized much and delegates committed to apply it in their lives. Our prayers and investment are not in vain. To the parents of these delegates, I challenge you to follow up what they heard by encouraging them and by being faithful in church.

Finally, I personally want to thank those members who greeted me and showed their appreciation when I celebrated my birthday last Friday. It is only by His grace, that I can still do what He entrusted me to do. Pastoring this church for 32 years is a great gift from God, and your faithfulness is part of that gift. May God abundantly bless you.

Victorious Christian Living (Following our Maker - Saviour)Matthew 16:24 / Luke 9:23 / John 12:26

I. The cost (price) of following our Maker is revealed entirely in His word. A. The plan for God’s creation was presented from the very beginning. B. The purpose of God’s creation is primarily for worship and fellowship. C. The price of our redemption is precious and “it ceaseth for ever.” II. The cross of following our Maker is required by His work. A. The cross speaks of His required sacrifice. B. The cross speaks of His required satisfaction.

III. The compensation of following our Maker is repaid by His heavenly wealth. A. God recompenses His obedient children with cash and goods. B. God recompenses His obedient children with godly character. C. God recompenses His obedient children with heavenly crowns.

Here are some ways that you can be a tremendous help and blessing to your pastor.

1. Pray for him and his family.(James 5:16; Hebrews 4:16)Praying for your pastor daily will help him, and it will keep you tender toward his leadership.

2. Show up for the preaching of God’s Word.(1 Peter 5:1-2)Pastors are commanded to feed the flock. However, they are not commanded to make “home delivery” of the feed. Your pastor cannot feed you if you do not show up for the meal. Dr. Lee Roberson often said, “Every Christian needs three to prosper: Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night.”

3. Pick a ministry and be faithful.(Deuteronomy 6:12-13; 1Samuel 12:24; John 12:26)Jesus taught that the primary attribute for His followers was faithfulness. Rare is the church member today who can always be counted on for serving faithfully.

4. Obey the Lord in your stewardship.(2 Corinthians 9:6-7)The church needs your offerings for the Lord’s work. More importantly, you need to be obedient to the Lord and give it. If every church member were obedient about giving, churches would be looking for more good ways to use the Lord’s money.

5. Teach your children to respect the pastor.(Hebrews 13:7, 17)

6. Envision a great future for your church.(Proverbs 29:18)

Focus on the wonderful opportunity you have to see people saved, baptized, growing in the Lord, and serving in the church. Get excited about the events, outreach efforts, and special meetings of the church.

7. Take an active part in making that vision a reality.(James 1: 22-25)

8. Increase your love for your church family.(James 5:16; Ephesians 6:18; Hebrews 3:12-13; Galatians 6:2)Jesus taught that the world would recognize us as His followers by the love that we have for each other.Be faithful in prayer for one another. Extend personal care to each other—function as the body of Christ.

9. Share Christ and your church with others.(Luke 14:23)Andrew brought Peter to Jesus. This is the first step in becoming a soulwinner. Bringing people to church with you is the “entry level” of soulwinning. Anyone and everyone can do it.

10. Keep a positive spirit.(Psalm 146:5; 1John 5:4)Determine to focus on the good things in life and the good things about your church. Encourage your pastor by sharing his vision for your church.

Bible Principles for the Youth

ACTS 29 | APRIL 24 | PAGE 07

In choosing his servants, God is more interested in willingness than in age. BIBLE READING: 1 Samuel 2:18-26 KEY BIBLE VERSE: 1 Samuel 2:18 Samuel was a young child, and yet he was used of God. Children can often serve God quite effectively. God will use anyone who is willing to learn from him and serve him. He has no age limits. Don’t discount the faith of a child or let your age keep you from serving God.

Youth is a good time to begin and develop a relationship with God. BIBLE READING: Ecclesiastes 12:1-8 KEY BIBLE VERSE: Ecclesiastes 12:1 A life without God can produce a bitter, lonely, and hopeless old age. A life centered around God is ful-filling; it will make the “evil years”—when disabilities, sickness, and handicaps cause barriers to enjoying life—satisfying because of the hope of eternal life. Being young is exciting. But the excitement of youth can become a barrier to closeness with God if it makes young people focus on passing pleasures instead of eternal values. Make your strength avai- lable to God when it is still yours—during your youthful years. Don’t waste it on evil or

meaningless activities that become bad habits and make you cold-hearted. Seek God now.

Young people can trust in Jesus’ ability to identify with their experiences. He is the perfect model of surviving the youthful years. BIBLE READING: Luke 2:41-52 KEY BIBLE VERSE: Luke 2:51-52 This is the first mention of Jesus’ awareness that he was God’s Son. But even though he knew his real Father, he did not reject his earthly parents. He went back to Nazareth with them and lived under their authority for another eighteen years. God’s people do not despise human relationships or family responsibi- lities. If the Son of God obeyed his human parents, how much more should we honor our family members! Don’t use commitment to God’s work to justify neglecting your family. The four items used to identify his teen years are general enough to use in any young person’s life. What a great achievement to arrive at about twenty years of age and have your life summarized as growing “in wisdom and stature,” and being "in favour with God and man.”
