Important: If you state validated livestock projects, raise beef heifers or caught a calf in the calf scramble, you will need to attend and complete entries for major shows. If you are not able to attend please call the office to schedule an appointment before November 14th. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Adult Leaders’ Association & County 4-H Council Meetings November 19, 2013 @ 5:30pm at 4-H Activity Center

Each club needs to have representatives at both meetings to discuss important county-wide issues and repre-sent their club in voting.

Poultry Project

A workshop will be held for all members who wish to participate in the Broiler Show at VLS. The workshop will be held on December 16th at 6 PM at the Victoria County 4-H Activity Center. If you are new to the poultry show, or you would like to gain more information to be successful, please make plans to attend! Also—please note the date listed in the VLS Rule Book for Market Broiler pick up is incorrect. The CORRECT date for pick up is January 15, 2014 (not the 16th)

Community Service Opportunity!

Leah Bishop with Westwood 4H Club is collecting items for health kits to be given to those in need in our community. Contact Leah at 573-2696 if you would like to help! Items needed include:

Hand Towels

Toothpaste (small tubes) and Toothbrushes

Nail Clippers and Nail Files

Bar Soap (smaller travel size if possible)

4-H Food, Fiber, and GREEN! We are offering three family & consumer science-focused workshops this 2013-2014 4-H year to help you learn more about foods & nutri-tion, clothing, and consumer decision making in hands-on demonstrations. Let’s have some FUN this year with 4-H Food, Fiber, and GREEN!

 

VICTORIA COUNTY 4-H FOOD SHOW Saturday, November 16, 2 PM – 4 PM, 4-H Activity Center

*Please submit your entry for the County Food Show by Tuesday, November 12, 2013*

This year’s theme is “Budget-Wise Recipes”. There are 4 categories: Protein, Fruit and Vegetable, Grains, and

Dairy. There are 3 age divisions: Juniors, Intermediate, and Senior. The top 3 individuals in each food category in

each age division to advance to District. That means there are 36 available spots just waiting for you with a little hard

work! Entry forms are online (fillable pdf format) at:

(The forms are the same as for the District Food Show). Call the Extension Office if you have any questions.

GREEN Workshop—November 18, 2013

Monday – 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Location: 4-H Activity Center Learn all you can this month at the workshop focused on 4-H Consumer Education. We will be learning about:

Victoria Livestock Show - February 23th - March 3, 2014

Beginning November 1st, Sweepstake Heifer entry forms will be available at the Extension Office. Please make plans to pick up these entries and mail them to Susan Hempel. Her address is 6619 Hanselman Rd., Victoria, TX 77905. These entries are due by December 1st.

9 - Broiler orders and fees due 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. VLS Pavilion

1 - Sweepstakes Heifers-Entry Deadline

Coastal Bend Classic

All Texas 4-H and FFA members are invited to participate in the 4th annual Coastal Bend Classic, Saturday, December 7 at the San Patricio County Fairgrounds, Sinton, TX. We will have species clinics for steers and heifers, sheep and goats, poultry, and rabbits. And species showmanship clinics, contests, and shows. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude after the shows that afternoon. Online registration is now open and the $15 fee is requested by November 22. Major Show Hog Validation

State validation for barrows will be Tuesday, November 26th, 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the Ag Farm Parking Lot. If you ordered tags by the deadline, they will be $12/each. Tags must be paid for BEFORE validation. Exhibitors and parents are asked to attend to complete necessary paperwork.

2014 Calf Scramble

If you are planning to participate in a Calf Scramble at any of the Major Stock shows and have not already contacted the extension office please do so November 9th. All paperwork needs to be completed and brought to the office BEFORE this date. You may also bring the paperwork with you to the Major Show Sign up being held Monday, November 4th.

You will also need your quality counts verification num-ber. Houston Livestock Show and the Fort Worth Stock Show - This year will be a requirement to send a digital copy of junior heifer registration papers to Houston. Please bring a COPY of your registration pa-perwork with you to Major Show Sign up. This includes any heifers that you may consider substituting for any reason.
