Curriculum Vitae VICKI A. FREEDMAN, Ph.D. May 2014 CAREER BRIEF Dr. Freedman is a Research Professor at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. She has published extensively on the topics of population aging, disability, and long-term care. She currently serves as co-Principal Investigator the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS), Associate Director of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID), and co-Director of the Michigan Center on the Demography of Aging (MiCDA). As part of a program project on health and wellbeing that she directs, she is leading a supplemental PSID study of disability, time use and well-being among older adults. Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Dr. Freedman was a Professor at the School of Public Health at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. From 2000-2005 she was affiliated with Polisher Research Institute, a private, non-profit gerontological research organization (formerly, Philadelphia Geriatric Center), where she served first as a senior research scientist and then as director. From 1995 to 2000 she was a research scientist at RAND, a nonprofit, nonpartisan policy research organization. Dr. Freedman has served on over a dozen national advisory panels for federal agencies, including the Institute of Medicine’s 2005-2007 Committee on Disability in America. She was recently nominated to join the National Academies’ Committee on Population. She earned her doctorate in Epidemiology from Yale University and master’s degree in Demography from Georgetown University. CAREER BRIEF Dr. Freedman is a Research Professor at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. She has published extensively on the topics of population aging, disability, and long-term care. She currently serves as co-Principal Investigator the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS), Associate Director of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID), and co-Director of the Michigan Center on the Demography of Aging (MiCDA).
