I dedicate this book to my Mom and Dad!

On the African Savannah, Old Vulture sleeps on a tree branch. It is a hot summer day and the sun has just come up. The crickets are chirping and the sand is blowing. Old Vulture is just waking up to search for food.

As the sun gets hot, the brown, ugly vulture glides through the sky. He flies over the water and uses his excellent eyesight to find a dead animal in the desert. He is terrible at flapping but good at soaring. There has been a drought so many animals have died. This is good for Old Vulture! Although he has good eyesight, he does not notice the big tiger crouching down on the rocks.

Just then, the tiger jumps on Old Vulture and Old Vulture flies away with his excellent soaring. The tiger chases him but Old Vulture camouflages himself among the trees. He lands on a branch and stays still until the tiger gives up and goes home. Old Vulture is happy!

At last, Old Vulture sees no danger, so he takes off from the tree branch. He flies away to a gray, tall mountain and soars high in the speckled sky until he finds another dead animal.
