Musings - From theFounder Chairman’s Desk

The Model United Nations was created to bring awareness to students about globally relevant and burning issues and inculcate in them a sense of duty and responsibility. It has been a platform to come together in the spirit of diplomacy and multiculturalism to discuss solutions to the most pressing issues currently affecting our world today. The VHMUN 7 was a grand event indeed. The commitment, resolve and conscientiousness of the organising team cannot be overlooked. Their silent yet relentless efforts have contributed in a large measure to make VHMUN 7 a force to contend with. I extend my heartiest congratulations to all for making it a magnificent success.Mr Rustom Kerawalla (Founder Chairman, VIBGYOR High Group of Schools)

VHMUN 7 has been a magnificent and outstanding event. The presence of overwhelmingly large number of delegates and representation of various schools from all over India speaks volumes for the respect and popularity that VHMUN enjoys. We are impressed to see that our students have acquired the ability and skill to thrive and flourish under difficult conditions and they are able to discuss, deliberate and resolve issues pressing the world. I extend my

appreciation to the students, staff and management of VIBGYOR High as well as the Secretariat, the Executive Board, the delegates and the Organizing Committee of VHMUN 7 for making this magnanimous event such a memorable affair.Ms Kavita Sahay (Vice Chairperson, VIBGYOR High Group of Schools)

Of late, Climate Change has been the apple of discord in realms of men from science and politics. VHMUN 7 provided the young minds with an analogous platform that will help evolve such student conferences to metamorphose them to leaders who will become the symbol of hope for the future. I thank the Secretariat, the Executive Board and organizing Committee of VHMUN 7 in supporting us in this endeavour of excellence. I also take this opportunity to convey my appreciation to the Principals and Heads of 35 schools, Colleges and Universities in India and abroad for encouraging and supporting their students to attend the VHMUN 7. I extend my congratulations to the 500 plus delegates who have benefitted from all the advantages that VHMUN 7 offered in terms of facilities, the quality of MUNing and learning.Mr Shim Mathew (Director Principal - Host School, VIBGYOR High, Goregaon West)

Host Principal Speaks

With 7 Committees and 500 + Delegates...A MUN to Remember

The 7th VIBGYOR High Model United Nations was a quintessence of success as it was personalised, engaging, self-motivating and it redefined the MUNing experience leaving students thirsting for more. International issues took the centre stage and each delegate shone like the scintillating gemstones on the crown – VHMUN 7. They naturally displayed an array of individual brilliance while ensuring friendship and bonding between people who magnanimously differed in their beliefs and outlooks. VHMUN, since its inception in 2011, has been gaining grounds with an unmatched alacrity. It is not a surprise therefore that VHMUN has entrenched a prestigious position among the most popular MUNs in the country.

The accomplishment of VHMUN 7 pivoted on the three illustrious and eloquent speakers, a number of distinguished guests, more than 500 enthusiastic delegates from 35 schools and colleges in Mumbai and the rest of the country, 2 new committees to focus, discuss and debate on international issues, 12 fascinating and perspicacious topics, about 20 hours of intense committee sessions, 17 experienced Secretariat and Executive Board Members and innovative and exciting developments, all in the warm and hospitable environment of the Hyatt Regency, Andheri East. VHMUN 7 became a phenomenon par excellence.

The two new committees, Social Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), with their star studded Chairs and co- chairs set new benchmarks in alleviating the seemingly insurmountable issues that threaten our existence. The remarkably experienced and competent secretariat ensured that the experience of the delegates was exhilarating and at the same time, transformed the flicker of hope to a steady flame to strengthen resolutions related to Climate Change and consequently reinforced worldwide peace in the near future, so that all of us can enjoy prosperous and rewarding lives and that economic, social and technological progress occurs in harmony with Nature.

A memorable MUN indeed!

VHMUN 7Keynote Speakers and Special Guest

On Day 1 our keynote speaker at the Opening Ceremony was a very illustrious personage, Mr Afroz Shah, who has been honoured by none other than the United Nations itself for his role in the largest beach cleanup in the history of human civilization. Delegates gained some crucial insights about climate change and the difficulties regarding the struggle to overcome it.

“VIBGYOR High has shown the lead to schools of Mumbai to make our environment total healthy.” – Mr Afroz Shah

Padma Shri Ajeet Bajaj, the icon of the growth of adventure tourism in India, was the keynote speaker at the Closing Ceremony on Day 3. A pioneer of river rafting, kayaking, expedition skiing and sea kayaking in India, Mr Bajaj is famed world over for completing the Polar Trilogy which entails skiing to the North Pole, to the South Pole and across Greenland. With over 30 years of experience in adventure sports, he is the first Asian to have rafted and kayaked some of the

most challenging rivers of the world spanning six continents. He had much to share with our enthusiastic delegates due to his vast and varied experience.

“A very well organized event. The energy is uplifting. You make the country proud!”– Mr Ajeet Bajaj

Mr Neil Nitin Mukesh, the matinee idol, holds a preeminent position in Bollywood. Lesser known fact about him is that he runs an NGO to support needy women with basic necessities like food, shelter, clothes and education along with which he is also a part of 'Think Blue', an initiative increasing awareness of water scarcity and other pressing ecological issues. It was a privilege for the delegates to listen to the words of encouragement from such a star.

“Thank you for educating me, teaching me a way ahead – to learn, to lead and to live”– Mr Neil Nitin Mukesh

As a chairperson, I came across the most enthusiastic delegates, eager to act on every suggestion the EB gave. They were hardworking and tried their level best to maintain the standards of the highly celebrated VHMUN. My own committee aside, the entire admin body and VIBGYOR staff were professional and went out of their way to ensure that the conference ran smoothly and that everyone's requests were catered to. The wise wisdom of guest speakers also highlighted VHMUN's caliber and I cannot wait to see how the next conference goes!Sara Shirodkar, Vassar College, New York – Chairperson (SC)

The wonderful memories, we carried back home, would be cherished for long.Neena Gopalan – VIBGYOR High, Marathahalli, Bengaluru

I believe in what Dr. Abdul Kalam said, 'Learning gives Creativity, Creativity leads to Thinking; Thinking provides Knowledge; Knowledge makes you Great.’VHMUN7 has not only lived up to this novel ideal but also superseded in achieving prominence for the delegates and everyone associated with it. VHMUN continues to be an immense hub of knowledge and learning and this year, it also successfully inspired delegates to be cognizant 'Earthlings' and make a change for the betterment of the Environment.Ms Vianna – VIBGYOR High, Goregaon (West), Mumbai

VHMUN 7 was yet another chapter of success added to the series of VHMUN conferences. As a committee head it gave me great satisfaction to see how delegates discussed and debated and most important came up with some very innovative and creative solutions to some of the most pressing issues of the world. Delegates' experiences outside of committee are just as vital as their experiences within committee and I am sure each delegate of VHMUN 7 has walked away from this conference with memories that they will cherish for a long time to come.Ms Bijal – VIBGYOR High, Goregaon (West), Mumbai

The students started off really well and now I'm looking forward to working with them more over the season. It's always interesting to see what we can achieve together as a team.Mr Jerry Paul – VIBGYOR High, Goregaon (West), Mumbai
