DRIVE HEAD
• Hold the rod string connected to the rotor
• Drive the rotation of the rotor
• Prevent back spin rotation
• Sealing around the polished rod between low pressure at the BOP outlet and outside’s atmosphere above the stuffing box.

Inside the tubing the fluid rises until the well he adRod string acts like a spring and store energy

Back spin
• There’s a counter torque led by the liquid column weight and the rod string twist. When the Drive head stops for maintenance or otherreason, this counter torque has to be refrained to prevent a dangerous “back-spin”.
• However we need to release this energy to secure the area and enable any work on the well. This is the purpose of the back-spin device.
• The brake of the Drive head is driven by the pressure generated by the auxiliary pump spinning backwards. When the pump stops, the rod string starts spinbing backwards, the generated pressure by the auxiliary pump rises and the pads start to press on the brake disc. Then the backwards rotation decreases and the pressure on the pads is released.
• Thus the energy is slowly released.

Drive head assembly process
• 1) Fix the thrust washer in itslocation inside the drive head
• 2) Put the shaft on the thrustwasher, the gear for oilcircuit from shaft have to lead the gear from drive head
• 3) Thread the coverplate on the shaft and screw down the coverplate

• 4) Put the key stock on theshaft on its location
• 5) Thread the rotor on the shaftand block it in rotation with thekey stock
• Add lube oil if the thread ishard
• Don’t thread the cap right to the end, let some space for inserting the brake device

• 6) Put the brake pad in thebrake device in its location andinsert all on the rotor
• 7) Thread down the brakedevice on the drive head anddisplace the rotor in the sametime
• 8) Don’t forget the wedges
