    Greetings Comrades, Sistersand Auxiliary members!

I was going to start with "HappyThanksgiving" and although thisreally is the November (and De-cember) issue, it just didn't feelright writing that in October! Thisyear is going by fast enough!

These past few months havebeen both rewarding and sad. We've lost some members, onein particular that I really miss. Ittruly is amazing the bonds you

form with comrades linked together in service to our nation. We all have our own stories and experiences with deploy-ing onto foreign soil as our passage to the VFW. Now wehave a common goal of service to veterans. We may beoff the battlefield now, but we're like a battalion with a mis-sion a mission of service to our veterans and community.

The winners of our Voice of Democracy, Patriots Penand Youth Essays, to be announced, were decided Nov. 6.

It's also Buddy Poppy hand-out time again! We'll be atthe Safeway store in Renton at 3rd and Ranier, Nov. 10

and 11. I'll have time slot sign-ups at the Post. Please helpwith this very important fundraiser! Let's make this fun! I'mbuying the coffee and donuts!

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, let's not only bethankful for our family and friends, but also for what we'vedone for this country. Be thankful you're here to still serve.Be thankful you've been able to give the great gift of free-dom to all that couldn't, even those you may not agreewith.

Thanks for your support and continued membership! Our membership numbers send a message to the otherWashington so remember to "re-enlist" into our Post!!Your membership matters! If you can't afford it, let meknow. We are here to take care of each other!

I look forward to seeing you all at our Post Home for allthe activities we have planned. Please check the calendarfor dinners that we cook that support our programs. It's adelicious way to donate! You get a great meal, for cheap-er than a "value meal" and you can buy meat raffle ticketsfor your excitement! What a cheap date night AND you'resupporting your VFW to boot!

Remember that Veterans Day is YOUR day! We, alongwith other Posts and Department, will honor our veteransas we march in the Auburn Veterans Day parade Nov. 10.Also, have a GREAT Thanksgiving! .......that was weird towrite..... Oh where does the time go?

I am honored to be your commander!

Thanks to all of you who have ordered and I'm surethere will be others to order in the future.

Remember that for every 100 people who get can-cer, 33 cases could be prevented through simplelifestyle changes. That means that one out of everythree cases could be prevented.

Also, I still have Cancer pins for sale. If anyonewho wants them, let me know.

As the largest organization of combat veterans, the VFW understands the frustrations thatcan arise with making a VA claim. Thats why VFWs National Veterans Service (NVS) wascreated.

The NVS is a nationwide network of skilled VFW Veterans Service Officers that helpswade through all the bureaucratic red tape, offering veterans a better opportunity to get

the disability claims they deserve.Veterans dont even need to be VFW members to take advantage of this free service.

This is a service all veterans have earned.VFW Post 1263s Veterans Service Office is Don Schmidt. Comrade Schmidt may

be reached via email at [email protected] or by phone at 425-584-7392.

No Smoke and Mirrors - just help with VA claims

From coins to T-shirts, contributing to cancer prevention is easy
