What is a Robot?

A robot is a programmable mechanical device than can perform tasks and interact with its environment

Basic Components of a Robot

Body •Can be any size or shape•Human shaped robots have been seen in movies•Majority of them look nothing like humans

Control System

• A program that tells the robot how to act

• Electronics that process the information

•Can be simple or extraordinarily complex

•Designed to allow the machine to react to its environment through code or sensory input (touch, temperature and light sensors)

Central Processing Unit

•Directs its behavior •Can be autonomous

Behavior is a response to different inputs.
