OVERVIEW

The Veterans Community Commission (NLV VCC) is to assist local veterans with reintegration into the City of North Las Vegas community and accessing all available and applicable resources and services. The NLV VCC is to act an as advisory committee to the Mayor and City Council on matters related to the Veterans in the City of North Las Vegas in the areas of Wellness, Education, Employment Outcomes and Relocation Specialist areas.

GOALS

The Commission’s purpose is to:

1. Connect veterans and their families with appropriate services and programs to assist with their reintegration into the City of North Las Vegas community

2. Serve as the Board of Directors for a city based nonprofit located in the North Las Vegas City Hall directed by an executive director to connect veterans with veteran benefits

3. Identify local resources, service benefits, and opportunities, as well as gaps and overlap in the same, and make recommendations for improvements in North Las Vegas

4. Advocate for veterans services so that they may receive adequate support from public officials, citizens, and private entities 5. Serve as local public body to hear veterans’ concerns 6. Advise public service agencies and providers on veteran issues and services as appropriate 7. Support Nellis Appreciation Day and other activities to connect our community to Nellis Air Force Base 8. Identify opportunities to work with community, local, state, and federal partners 9. Identify and request resources from community, local, state, and federal partners

o Work thru and with existing veterans organizations and bring collaboration and awareness to veterans services

o Create enhanced transition services for veterans to private sector employment by engaging the employer

community - JOBS

o Develop website for the VCC with links to the veterans organizations – with link to the VA Veterans Resource

Directory of Services in Nevada (brand the VCC via website, links to services, webinars, success stories)

o Highlight existing Green Zone initiative and align all of our initiatives in conjunction with their programs/services

1) Connect veterans and their families with appropriate services and programs to assist with their reintegration into the City of North Las Vegas community


o Collaborate with existing non-profits

2) Serve as the Board of Directors for a city based nonprofit located in the CNLV


o Complete a survey of veterans in conjunction with VA and VA organizations to identify veterans priorities

o Analyze survey of veterans concerns and prioritize and assign to working committee groups for action plans

o Build a bridge between veteran job seekers and veteran spouse job seekers to employers with job openings

o Distribute the VA Veterans Resource Directory of services in Nevada and ensure ALL veterans organizations have

access to it

3) Identify local resources, service benefits, and opportunities, as well as gaps and overlap in the same make recommendations to the CNLV


o Be present at ALL veterans events, and have a booth to evangelize the VCC’s mission

o Develop collateral material (via website) that can be provided to veterans and families

4) Advocate for veterans services so that they may receive adequate support from public officials, citizens and private entities


o Participate in Veterans town hall meetings

o Coordinate with veteran service organizations and hold quarterly meetings to discuss initiatives/activities

o Establish links on website for veterans to express concerns and/or items to the VCC

o Coordinate with DETR, VA State, VA Voc Rehab, Workforce Connections, AFRC, TAP, P4 Initiative to advocate veterans services

5) Serve as a local public body to hear veterans’ concerns


o Complete a survey of veterans in conjunction with VA and VA organizations to identify veterans priorities
