brief description

Intended useThis fall arrestor is to be used together with a full-body harness with central attachment-point at chest and hip level (EN361 or CSA Z259.10-06) and is intended for the protection of one person climbing up or down on an installed ladder with systeme-rail only.

Any other use is to be considered inapprop-riate. BORNACK can´t be held liable for any damage resulting from such use. The risk is entirely borne by the user.

Suitable rigid rails• Tr 280 ladder with an integrated guide rail; steel; hot-dip galvanized (Y-Baum“ mast- type fixed ladder) or• Rail fasteners / ladder fasteners at 1,1 m intervals (steel, hot-dip galvanized)• Rail-end stops, fixed or hinged, at both ends• Rail connectors• Exitpoint• Direction-setting rail connectors• BORNACK-RAILSTOP RS-S05/CSA arrestor

Equipment• Ergonomic design• Body in stainless steel• Double cam against freefall and falling- backward• Energy absorber in point B• Maintenance-free joints, ball bearings and rolls• Selflocking carabine (twistlock)

Accessories• Harness with 2 sternal and lateral attach- ment-points e.g. FS4 • Resting platforms, hinged for the Leader.

Aproval• Conformity with CSA standard Z259.2.1-98 (R2004)

Check before each useIf any slight defects are established during the inspection of the PPE before it is used, this PPE may no longer be used.A PPE component that is defective in any way may only be checked and/or repaired in an authorised BORNACK workshop.

visual check• Components do not show any sign of damage that can be seen or felt.• Rail, ladder fastenings and fall arrestors for completeness.• Rail ends and rail joints secured, 3mm max. gap between rail ends.

Function test• Fall arrestor moves freely (up and down) during horizontal pull at point A.• All links and gates have to be movable (arrestor and hooks) • Selfclosing and locking of the arrestor and hooks (spring).

• Product certification according to CSA standard Z259.2.1-98 (R2004)• Type testing and production examina- tion by CSA.• Conformity with CSA requirements. Product certification according CSA

Quality management• Quality checks according by the manufacturer.

Warning!• Certification is applicable to the device only.• CSA has not investigated the Anchorage System.

Fall arrestor equipment in use

Fitting fall arrestora Fit a fall arrestor onto rail profile at end or at removal point. Make sure that the „up“ arrow points upwards.b Attach fall arrestor to central ventral attachment point. WARNING LETHAL HAZARD: Do not extend using connecting slings or additional hooks!• If let go, the fall arrestor automatically blocks on the rail. Test the function of the fall arrestor equipment by running it up and down the rail by hand. If moved suddenly or let go, the arrestor must automatically block!

Using the fall arrestorc Lean into „link A“ of the fall arrestor slightly while climbing (horizontal pull = back support), keeping it unblocked.• Keep movement constant and calm when climbing up or down, move arrestor with you.• Don´t lean into „link B“ (Chest). Keep your body in upright position during climbing. If the body turns away from this position (through fall, or unconsciousness) cam B will block imedia- tely and activate cam A.d The user can quickly adopt a comfortable resting position by moving up and manually blocking the arrestor for a seating/ hanging position in the harness.

• WARNING: The fall arrestor must be blocked before sitting and hanging in the harness in a resting position!• The blocked fall arrestor can easily be released by gently lifting the hook.• Always secure with a positioning-lanyard (e.g. MANUSTOP) or with a energy-absorbing lanyard according to EN 355 or CSA Z259.11-05 (e.g. BFD 1.5m). The lanyard is to be kept tout in order to exclude the possibility of free fall. The lanyard is to be attached at a safe anchor-point such as the rail. Avoid sidewards leaning in the fall arrestor!• Only remove the fall arrestor from the rail in a secure position. (platform or similar, behind a railing or barrier, with lanyard secured or similar.)• Store fall arrestor and harness in a protected place after use.

Safety provisions

There is a risk of fatal injuries if the safety provisions are not observed.• Safety-systems may no longer be used even in the event of slight damage .• Damaged PPE or PPE and/or safety equipment that have been subject to a fall or are of dubious condition should be taken out of service immediately. The equipment should only be inspected by an expert or a workshop that has been authorised in writing by BORNACK. This needs to be documented in the inspection card.• Autonomous modifications or repairs are prohibited.• The rope protection is part of the personal protection equipment to prevent falling and should be allocated to a specific person.• The PPE may only be used by trained persons that are familiar with the material and know how to use the equip- ment safely, and have been trained in the risks associated with its use.• In accordance with the accident prevention regulations, a theoretical and practical training course is necessary for users of the PPE fall protection equipment. Please make use of the training competence of the BORNACK training centres – BORNACK-hotline• Accessories from other manufactures may only be used if approved by BORNACK; they may not impair the function or safety of the protective equipment.• Clothing and shoes should be suitable for the respective weather conditions.• Only use when completely healthy.• Health-related restrictions may impair the safety of the user when working at heights or depths.• When using this PPE as a catching system (freefall is possible), a harness in accordance with EN 361 must always be used.• Select the highest possible suspension point.• Protect the PPE during storage, use or transportation against the effects of heat (e.g. welding flames or sparks, hot cigarette ash) and chemicals (acids, lyes, oils, etc.) and mechanical effects (sharp edges etc).• Before work is commenced, an emergency plan (rescue plan) needs to be drawn up for the respective work situati- on by the responsible person stating how a person who has fallen can be safely and quickly rescued from the han- ging situation and first aid administered. Rescue actions like this need to be performed within 10 to 30 minutes. BORNACK assists you here by drawing up tailored rescue plans and incorporating your rescue plan into the training courses. BORNACK-hotmail• The local safety regulations and the relevant industry- specific work safety regulations need to be observed.

Storage• Dry arrestor device before storage.• Store in a dry place, protected from light.• Do not bring fall arrestor into contact with aggressive chemicals (e.g. oils, grease, acids or other chemicals).• Transport in equipment case or bag designed for the purpose.

Care• Air dry fall arrestor, do not heat-dry.• Fall arrestor equipment should be brushed off or cleaned with lukewarm water and possibly with mild clothes detergent. Rins throughly afterwards. No other cleaning chemicals may be used.• Protection and safety equipment that is cared for well will last longer!• Do not use grease; the bearings are per- mently lubricated. If necessary, use light oil on hinges.

Repairs• Repairs may only be carried out by the manu- facturer for reasons of legal liability.• Only original parts from the manufacturer- may be used.

Check• Carry out a visual and function test before each use.• The energy absorber must be replaced by the manufacturer after six years. (see tag or label).• The fall arrestor must be checked at least once a year; the results should be entered on the test card.
