Key Words: Bearing; Vertical; Generator; Hydrogenerator; Turbogenerator; Tachogenerator; Induction; Synchronous; Direct Current Classification: Component Vertical Grease - Lubricated Bearings

l Axial thrust

Ball or roller axial bearings with four contact points are the most suitable types of bearings to withstand purely light and moderate axial loads. Angular contact ball axial bearings can withstand moderate axial bearings under high speed.

l Speed

Based on their design, vertical applied bearings have their limit speed lower than horizontal application bearings.

l Lubrication

Vertical grease - lubricated bearings usually have their lubrication interval reduced by half if compared to equivalent horizontally mounted bearings. This is caused mainly by the gravity force that makes the grease to go through the bearing much faster. This means that the whole lubrication system design of vertically mounted bearing requires additional care in relation to horizontally mounted bearings.

l For alarm and tripping temperature, contact engineering department of Weg Maquinas.

Vertical oil - lubricated bearings Oil - lubricated bearings are usually applied to high inertia loads with low speeds. The most commonly oil - lubricated bearings used by Weg vertically mounted motors are the self-compensated axial roller bearings together with a ball bearing. Different of other axial bearings, this bearing is suitable to withstand radial and axial loads simultaneously. On this type of design, the ball bearing serves as a guide as the axial bearing construction is not designed for radial mounting.

l Lubrication

Lubrication intervals applied to these bearings are equivalent to those applied to sleeve bearings, i.e., 8000 hours for bearings without oil circulation system, and 20,000 hours for bearings fitted with oil circulation system

l For alarm and tripping temperature, contact engineering department.
