In order to be able to communicate using an insecure channel as for instance the Internet, the information has to be encrypted and identifying the receiver is crucial. The SKG manages to do this in a very safe, user friendly and cost efficient way by synchronously generating identical 160 bit keys for authentication and symmetric encryption in physically separated locations. No information concerning the keys is sent! Innovative aspectsThe key generators are initialized by a 160 bit seed, from which identical pairs of keys are derived. A protocol by the name BYSKYBA ensures that the key generators are in sync and that the communicating parties create the correct pair of keys. This course of action is conducted without any supporting clock reference. The SKG is dynamic in every sense of the word and keys are produced at high speed if necessary. The keys are algorithmically calculated using a secure hash algorithm (SHA-1), which is granted by FIPS 180-1. The SKG method is optimized for closed environments with very high demands on safety, reliability, efficient administration and user friendliness. The SKG system embodies all these qualities and it is a very cost efficient alternative to other identification & authentication systems. N.B.
